Capacity and Consent: We follow the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring the individual consents to the process or that decisions are made in their best interests if needed. On Admission: The resident is welcomed, introduced to staff, and supported to settle in.   • The team value the importance of visitors in the lives of residents and fully support their right to maintain contact with family, friends, and loved ones. The visitors policy ensures that visits are welcomed, safe, and respectful of each resident’s personal wishes.


    Key points of the policy:


    Open Visiting: Visitors are welcome at any time, unless a resident personally requests limited visits or there is an outbreak of infection, in which case the home will follow health and safety guidance.


    Resident Choice: Each resident can decide who they want to see, and this choice will be recorded in their care plan. If a resident lacks the capacity to make this decision, the Mental Capacity Act will guide the process to ensure visits still support their best interests.


    Visitor Registration: All visitors must sign in and out at reception and follow any health and safety procedures in place.


    Privacy and Respect: Residents have the right to refuse visitors, and this will always be respected. Visitors will not be allowed into other residents’ rooms without express permission.


    Food and Personal Items: Any food or personal items brought in for a resident must be declared to staff to ensure safety and dietary needs are considered.


    Infection Control: Visitors who feel unwell, especially with symptoms of transmissible infections (such as flu, COVID-19, or norovirus), are asked to postpone their visit until they are well.


    Conflict and Safeguarding: If a visitor’s behaviour poses a risk to residents, staff, or the home environment, management will intervene. In serious cases, visits may be restricted or conditions imposed, with advice from the Safeguarding Team if necessary.


    Outbreak Management: In the event of a public health incident, the home will follow local and national guidance, offering alternatives like video calls or window visits if needed.


    Feedback and Complaints: Visitors are encouraged to provide feedback and raise any concerns, which will be handled through the Complaints, Suggestions and Compliments Policy.

My mum arrived here after having a fall and sustained brain injury, she had already spent some time in rehabilitation and needed extra care and help to regain her health and strength. I was a little dubious of The Star as the location and building from the outside is not the prettiest! However, we were
absolutely blown away by the amazing care from the staff who were able to help mum regain the skills to enable her to move on to living in extra care accommodation and living independently back with her husband. Thank you for all the help and support - I would absolutely recommend you for anybody looking for a caring and nurturing environment for their loved ones. Incredible team.

The care and support is excellent. Plenty of activities, lots of updates, and very accommodating with visits! The staff have been amazing, not only for my grandfather as a resident, but also for the rest of the family!

Since my grandmother has become a service user at the star nursing home I have seen such an improvement in her mental and physical health.
The home's social media page shows weekly updates and activities that are provided and it's lovely to see my grandmother participating in them.
The staff are very
approachable when I have phoned to speak to my grandmother and when I've visited.
My family and I were apprehensive when my grandmother first went into full time care after living independently all her life but have been more than happy with the care she has received and the acceptance into their family.

Dad has settled well and all the staff are very helpful and lovely. Lots of activities are available if residents want to join in.
They allow Dad's dog to visit with me as well which is such a good thing for Dad and all the other residents love to see her too.
Always a cup of tea and biscuits is offered
when visiting, which again makes you feel welcome.

My aunt was in the nursing home after a hospital stay for a bad fall, fractured hip, pelvic. The staff were so lovely here, they go above and beyond their duties, caring for residents and their families, always a happy place to go into. Always lots to do if residents wanted to join in. The nurses were
very good, always keeping us informed as to what was happening, always clean. Unfortunately, our aunt was too ill to enjoy the things on offer in the community room, always well looked after in her room though.

We placed my mum here as emergency respite care after two very stressful experiences at other homes. We were initially hesitant because it’s not the prettiest of surroundings or buildings but..
We have been absolutely blown away by the care and love of the staff at the Star Show to the residents.
The professionalism of the nursing staff and the care and hard work of all staff is second to none. Mum can be challenging but they ‘include’ her in their staff meetings (!) and have so much patience with her.
They do fun creative activities with the residents despite lots of them being very ill - they had them all out for mini fireworks display the other evening! Mum has just enjoyed a visit to a local garden centre. The job can’t be easy but the staff make it seem so! Having to put our lovely mum in a care home is the hardest thing we have ever had to do but the staff at the star have made it that bit more bearable.

My husband was at the home for a few months. He passed away peacefully. The care he received was impeccable. All the staff could not do enough for him, care which I could not give him. Three members of staff in particular and all the others are really dedicated to their work. Another particular member
of staff is always smiling and happy to help, the manager was great and very helpful.
Excellent care, passionate staff looking after everyone's needs. Highly recommend for the care they give.

Bit uncertain about the place at first but after five visits I found the place relaxed and the staff most helpful. The rooms look tidy, clean and good. I bring my neighbour here regularly to see her husband as she can't drive.

My cousin entered The Star Nursing and Residential Home about a year ago when he needed nursing care. As I live some considerable distance away, I was unable to visit him as much as I would have liked and he had no other relatives or friends to visit him. I was, therefore, very grateful that the staff
took the time to get to know him and keep him company. He was always treated with dignity and respect and I was kept informed of his condition on a regular basis. My sincere thanks to all those who cared for him.

The staff have lots of patience, the receptionist is lovely and always chatty and the craft and creativity lady is so happy and bubbly, is helpful and always offers me and Mum a cup of tea. The manager is available if you need to speak to him and is lovely with Mum, as are all staff. Laundry could be
a lot better, I have to say. I know Mum is safe here and they have worked wonders since Mum came out of hospital.

I am very happy with my husband's care at The Star Nursing and Residential Home. He has settled in very well and the staff are very caring and patient with him. His room is very clean and tidy, as is the lounge. I am able to raise any concerns I have with the manager or nursing staff. I feel confident

Chris Audsley

Job Title: Registered Manager

Chris started his working life training as a chef, It was when he looked after his grandparent's that he found a passion for health and social care. He started as a health care assistant, working with the elderly in their own home. He then came to the Star as an HCA and then took over in the kitchen for a period of time. After leaving the star to develop his skills. He worked as management in a home care company and then as a registered manager for a home care provider. He returned to The Star as the Registered Manager.

Job Title: Registered Nurse

Joined: 2012

Jane started her working life as a Health Care assistant in 1988, She then qualified as a Nurse in 2006.


She explains that she became a nurse after following her friend's advice and found a passion for it and has never looked back since


Jane was one of our first nurses that came to the star once it was changed to a nursing home in 2012.
