    • Our admission policy ensures that every prospective resident receives a thorough and personalised pre-admission assessment to determine whether we can meet their needs safely and competently. We involve the individual, their family, and any relevant professionals in this process, aiming to provide clear, accessible information so they can make an informed choice about moving into the care home. Key steps in our process: Initial Enquiry: We log all enquiries, provide an information pack, and invite the prospective resident to visit the home. Pre-Admission Assessment: We assess physical, psychological, and social needs, ensuring any necessary equipment or specialist care can be arranged before admission. Capacity and Consent: We follow the Mental Capacity Act, ensuring the individual consents to the process or that decisions are made in their best interests if needed. Financial and Legal Clarity: Funding arrangements (private, social care, or NHS-funded) are confirmed upfront, and legal agreements are put in place before admission. On Admission: The resident is welcomed, introduced to staff, and supported to settle in. Key risk assessments (such as falls and evacuation plans) are completed within 12 hours, and personalised care plans are finalised within the first week. Ongoing Review: A formal review is held within 28 days to ensure the placement is suitable and to gather feedback on the resident’s experience. Our approach is person-centred, aiming to make the transition into the home as smooth, informed, and supportive as possible. We also conduct regular audits to maintain high standards and ensure all legal and regulatory requirements are met.

  • The team value the importance of visitors in the lives of residents and fully support their right to maintain contact with family, friends, and loved ones. The visitors policy ensures that visits are welcomed, safe, and respectful of each resident’s personal wishes.


    Key points of the policy:


    Open Visiting: Visitors are welcome at any time, unless a resident personally requests limited visits or there is an outbreak of infection, in which case the home will follow health and safety guidance.


    Resident Choice: Each resident can decide who they want to see, and this choice will be recorded in their care plan. If a resident lacks the capacity to make this decision, the Mental Capacity Act will guide the process to ensure visits still support their best interests.


    Visitor Registration: All visitors must sign in and out at reception and follow any health and safety procedures in place.


    Privacy and Respect: Residents have the right to refuse visitors, and this will always be respected. Visitors will not be allowed into other residents’ rooms without express permission.


    Food and Personal Items: Any food or personal items brought in for a resident must be declared to staff to ensure safety and dietary needs are considered.


    Infection Control: Visitors who feel unwell, especially with symptoms of transmissible infections (such as flu, COVID-19, or norovirus), are asked to postpone their visit until they are well.


    Conflict and Safeguarding: If a visitor’s behaviour poses a risk to residents, staff, or the home environment, management will intervene. In serious cases, visits may be restricted or conditions imposed, with advice from the Safeguarding Team if necessary.


    Outbreak Management: In the event of a public health incident, the home will follow local and national guidance, offering alternatives like video calls or window visits if needed.


    Feedback and Complaints: Visitors are encouraged to provide feedback and raise any concerns, which will be handled through the Complaints, Suggestions and Compliments Policy.

The service provided to my partner is second to none, her every need is tended to. We are both treated with dignity and respect at all times by all the staff and management. Brilliant service.

I would like to convey sincere thanks to all staff and management at The Star for their care and kindness towards my mum in the last three months of her life. It was a difficult time but everyone at the home was very patient and understanding and mum was always treated with dignity.
The Star had a
friendly, welcoming atmosphere whenever we visited and we would certainly recommend.

The Star Nursing Home is a friendly environment, the carers are always willing to assist in every way. The Home is like one big family.
You can visit day or night, there is no set time, which I think is invaluable. My mother has been at The Star for around five years and we could not fault how she
is looked after. The Manager is proactive in every way ensuring the best possible care is provided for any resident at the home. Both my father and I are extremely happy with The Star and would recommend to anyone that has a loved one that requires care.

My sister is in this home and gets well looked after. The staff are so helpful and kind and always make you feel welcome offering you a cup of tea or coffee. My brother wasn't in the home very long sadly but the care he had was brilliant by all staff. He was treated with dignity at all times and nothing was too much trouble for his visitors.
They were very respectful and caring to my family after the loss of my brother.

My father was a resident at Star Nursing Home for four weeks. His care was excellent, he had complex needs and was treated with dignity and kindness at all times. The staff showed considerable experience and professionalism. I would particularly like to praise the 'end of life' care - we were so welcomed
as a family and with their gentle guidance I was able to be with my father in his last hours. It was profoundly moving and the presence of the carers and nurses was discreet and appropriate.

My Mother has now lived at The Star for over a year, so I feel able to recommend the home to any that are considering looking for a suitable home for their elderly relative. I must admit to being put off even viewing the home by the external appearance of The Star. However, on entering the home my mind
was gradually changed. The home has exactly that feel - a home, and my Mother has settled in and refers to residents and staff as seeming like family, something I never thought would happen. The internal layout of the home means that staff are in constant sight of the residents and the residents can see the activity of the staff. As family we may never feel the care of our loved ones will ever be good enough, but I do feel that The Star offers very good all round care and any problems can be discussed, and, I have found, dealt with promptly.

Jane started her working life as a Health Care assistant in 1988, She then qualified as a Nurse in 2006.


She explains that she became a nurse after following her friend's advice and found a passion for it and has never looked back since
