I'm a regular visitor to a long term friend and find happy atmosphere with lots of activities going on. Residents are encouraged to join in with practical tasks like colouring and flower arrangements. Lots of visiting entertainment from musicians to small mammals and birds with much encouragement to
include everyone who needs extra support to partake in these activities.

Dad has been a resident of Ailwyn Hall since April 2024. Having been in hospital for 10 weeks prior following a fall that broke the femur. From day one they made him feel at home and put my mind at ease that he would be well looked after. Dad has now been at Ailwyn Hall for nine months during which
time they have managed to get him walking again, something I thought would never happen. With their care and attention, he can walk with a Zimmer frame. He is very content and calls it his home now. All the staff are wonderful with him, nothing is too much trouble. When I leave after a visit I know that I do not have to worry about him. They also have regular good entertainment and activities which residents can take part in if they choose.

Thank you for your kind review. Ailwyn would not be the same without your dad! I will pass on your praise to our staff.

Mum has been in Ailwyn Hall just over 2 years now since she was 100 years old. She is well looked after and since Covid, we are able to talk to her via Zoom or messenger. In the summer when they can get outside fun and games are organised for all to enjoy. We get regular photos via Facebook. We as a
family are grateful to all the staff at Ailwyn for the love and care they give to our loved ones.

It was a hard decision to let Mum go into a home but with the onset of her dementia and caring for her 24/7 during the pandemic, my health was not the best. The fact that Ailwyn Hall is rated Good by the CQC and the reviews I read helped greatly in a time when you couldn’t visit the places. Since October
last year, Mum has been with them and I cannot praise all the staff highly enough. I speak to Mum most days and she is content when her mind is clear, the staff are always friendly and we have had window meetings with her when the guidelines allowed. There have been Zoom meetings as well, which are highly emotive for the family but not always understood by Mum. I must thank you all for your wonderful care of my Mum during an extremely difficult time, just so glad that she has had her first vaccination, and she continues to be well.

Every interaction that I have with Ailwyn Hall is a positive one. The staff are always helpful and explain how Mum's doing and whether she's able to take my call. Sometimes if it's busy the staff will offer to call me back just so that Mum can keep in touch. Mum's walking a lot better than before she
came into the home and even though some of our conversations don't make a lot of sense she's never asking to leave or for someone to come and get her. Moving into care was emotionally difficult for Mum and her family but the staff have done everything they can to make her welcome and happy. This in turn makes us, her family, feel happy. Even though we can't touch Mum or give her a hug, the Facebook pages and the photos they show always offer an insight into Mum's new situation. She always appears clean, comfortable and really engaged with whatever task she is doing.

A small care home with a very family feel. The staff are friendly and approachable. They try to help with any problems and pre Covid lockdown, we had a family support group. There have been many improvements to the building and décor over the last year and the overall feel is fresh and bright. There
is a beautiful garden and residents are able to get outside and enjoy it when the weather is good, and the view from the windows is lovely.

My mum has been at Ailwyn Hall for 2 years now and at no one point have I not felt she is getting the best care. Throughout the whole coronavirus experience, I have always felt confident that the staff are giving my mum the best possible care and her safety is paramount as are all the other residents.
Even under stressful circumstances they always answer the phone in a polite and friendly way and always do their best to help with my requests.

I am very grateful for the care given to my Mother during these unprecedented times. At the moment of writing, I believe that there have not been any cases of covid-19 among the residents. Obviously, I miss seeing my Mother as often as I would like to but hoping this will change in the future when the
R number comes down.

Another lovely visit with dad. Entertainment today was very good for all residents. Lots of smiling faces, singing songs that they all remember and carers helping less able to enjoy this also. This was followed by lunch which was delicious tasty hot food, both main and dessert. Carers assisting anyone
who needed help and everyone enjoyed their meal.
Really enjoyable visit, dad very happy as always and everyone looked after with great care and respect.

My elderly mother has her home here and I am very grateful as I only have praise for the way she is cared for. The staff are very kind and considerate. The manager is professional and always has time for me to discuss anything. She is approachable and welcoming with a kind, understanding attitude and
a smile. I have on many occasions found it very difficult to visit my mother as it can be distressing with her condition deteriorating fast. The staff make me feel better, always a little time to chat between their demanding duties and always a nice cuppa. I don't feel so depressed and alone when I know there is someone going to be there who really cares about the residents and the relatives. Thankyou Ailwyn Hall.

Mum has been at Ailwyn Hall since March 2015. All the staff carers, cleaner, kitchen and maintenance have looked after her with the best care, attention and love that anyone could wish for. They are a superb team, always helpful and supportive to us and nothing was ever a chore to them.

Our mum had a stroke in January this year and was left with vascular dementia with very little insight into her condition and needing residential care.

We visited a number of homes but from the minute we entered Ailwyn Hall, we knew it was the place for mum and we were proved right. The home and

all the staff, without exception, were good humoured, homely, friendly, caring and genuinely interested in mum as a person not just another resident. We were encouraged to make her room her own before she was discharged from hospital with her personal photos and things from home and also to let them know mum's life story so that they could talk to her about what was important to her.

Mum's rapid onset of dementia was a shock to us as a family but the manager and staff all helped us to come to terms with the changes and supported us as well as giving excellent care and support to mum. Mum had a large family and many friends and all visitors were welcomed at any time. We were kept updated with how she was and everyone was happy to answer any queries we had.

Mum was understandably worried about the move but settled very quickly and told us often how much she loved her room, the home and the staff, who she said were all angels. She called the lounge 'the room with the nice people'. She was very happy there which gave us all peace of mind.

Mum sadly passed away in June but was very clear she wanted to die in the home where she felt secure and loved rather than in hospital. The manager and staff were excellent in the last few days supporting us and treating mum with so much dignity and respect that we can never thank them enough

Current Review Score: 8.2 (8.202)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.2 (8.202) out of 10 for Ailwyn Hall Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.833 for Ailwyn Hall Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (20 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.833

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.369 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ailwyn Hall Care Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 41 registered maximum number of service users is 8.2. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.2 = 0.244

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
