My dad has lived here for two years now and has always been very well cared for. We are so pleased to see the positive interactions between staff and residents, the time spent with them ensuring their needs are met and that they feel special and cared about. Dad has enjoyed activities and celebrations
along the way and now that he is not so mobile, great effort is taken to help him socialise and join in as much as possible with the other residents. Although he no longer recognises us, we can see that he is comfortable having us in his room. He appears calm and relaxed every time we visit. The heads of care keep us well informed of changes in his health and well-being. We are on a journey but we feel supported. All the staff are friendly and welcoming within the home and the whole place has a calm atmosphere. We are grateful that Dad has a safe and secure home for this very difficult stage of his life.

My mother has been in Alexander Court Care Home for seven months now and has been very well cared for. She enjoys some of the traditional dishes like roast dinners and cottage pie but is not so keen on pasta or rice dishes. I am always made to feel very welcome when I visit my mother and get on very
well with all the members of staff.

Reply from Pat Collins, Home Manager at Alexander Court

Thank you for leaving us this lovely review. As you are aware, we have consulted with your mother about the menu and have taken her preferences into account when we changed to the winter menus and have added more traditional meals which she is enjoying. We will continue to consult your mother wherever possible to try to improve the service we provide to her and the other residents.

Alexander Court Care Home is a lovely, welcoming place. I feel totally confident that my loved one is safe and stimulated, very important, as they are a resident in the dementia, upstairs area of the care home.
Whenever I visit, regardless of day or time, the standard of care is the same. The staff
are all cheerful and very competent. And I would say that they go beyond the call of duty to make the residents feel special and happy, I would have no hesitation in recommending Alexander Court, Thetford, to anyone who was faced with the difficult task of finding the right place for their loved one.

A big thank you to all the staff and helpers to make the 25th anniversary barbecue a great success, the family of five generations had a wonderful time with the resident. We are always amazed at the enthusiasm and sheer hard work that goes into these events. Thank you once again.

Mum has been here since April 23 after being in the hospital for three months, then on to another care home for an assessment. Mum seems very happy, and she settled in very quickly. All the staff are lovely, and Mum seems to get on well with them. Any issues, and they call me straight away. Definitely
feel this was the right home for her.

Reply from Pat Collins, Home Manager at Alexander Court

Our mum came to Alexander court over a year ago, following a negative experience elsewhere and being in need of person-centred Dementia care. She has flourished here, her cognitive abilities have improved, her mental state is much better and she is clearly happy here whenever we see her.
All the
staff are always friendly and welcoming, they are kind and caring with all their residents and always stop for a chat whenever we visit.

The staff are wonderful but still not enough on each shift. At times they are run off their feet and have little time to offer companionship to residents. I have always found the staff to be friendly. When possible they are also helpful.

Reply from Pat Collins, Home Manager at Alexander Court

Thank you for leaving us this review. It's good to hear our care staff are doing such a great job. Alexander Court is a busy home at times with lots going on. Our staff are always busy going the extra mile for our residents but always have time to spend with the residents. We also have an activities coordinator who spends her time with all our residents individually as well as facilitating lots of group activities which most of our residents thoroughly enjoy. I'm sorry you feel that at times there is not enough staff on shift, and Mum is not having enough companionship, however, our staffing levels are calculated depending on the needs of our current residents to ensure that there are always enough staff to meet all our residents' needs. If you do have any further concerns about this, I would be happy to meet with you to discuss your mum's needs in more detail to try and resolve this, as we aim to respond to all comments and concerns effectively and promptly.

It is a difficult thing to have to do when you are told your mum has to go into a home. You need to trust that it is a good place to be. Alexander Court is friendly and open: welcoming visitors throughout the day and night, making residents feel at home and that they belong, staff get to know the residents’
little ways and needs, trying to do the best they can. It took a while for Mum to settle and get used to her new life and for me to feel relaxed about her new home. Alexander Court now feels right, I know Mum is safe, has friends, people who care and look after her, regular meals and drinks and snacks, activities and entertainment she enjoys. If I am worried I can just talk to a member of staff who will always answer my questions, give me advice or take action. It will never be perfect being in a home but I know mum and I are listened to and that we feel happy.

Reply from Alexander Home Manager, Home Manager at Alexander Court

Thank you for leaving us this review. It is lovely to hear how well your mum has settled in and that you are both happy with the home and the care provided. I attended a meeting for the family members to discuss plans for the home and upcoming events. I found it particularly informative as I am not on certain social media so realized I have been missing out on a lot. I also gathered information from other family members. I feel it would be a good idea to
have these meetings on a regular basis. Maybe every four months.

Reply from Alexander Home Manager, Home Manager at Alexander Court

Thank you for attending the meeting and leaving us a review. I am pleased you found it beneficial meeting other family members and hearing the home's news. I look to seeing you at the next meeting which we will hold later in the year. In the meantime please let us know if there is anything we can do to improve the service we deliver.

My Mother recently moved into the home and settled very quickly. The home is modern, spacious and clean. The staff are excellent with her. She sometimes chooses to join in with activities and meals but can have them on her own sometimes if she wants. There is no restriction on visiting and we always
feel welcome. She gets the 24/7 help and security that we were not able to give her and I am able to relax knowing she is in good hands. There is plenty of staff who are all friendly and keen to communicate and help. Our initial worries about the transition soon passed.

We hated the idea of placing Mum in a care home and unfortunately she had to go to two other homes, which she always asked to come away from. With the help of the manager of Alexander Court, we obtained her a room in the Dementia Unit of Alexander Court which was in our home town and a road she could
remember the name of in her memory. Unlike previously, the moment we took Mum to her room and into her armchair, and explained where she was - she was settled and never once asked to go anywhere else. She felt safe, cared for and home. We cannot praise every single member of staff at Alexander Court enough for the absolute care, kindness, time and patience they showed Mum. We witnessed this care and approach taken with the other residents at all times when we visited and it was not just when the staff were aware they were being watched. The last weekend with Mum was a difficult one but every single member of staff and the medical staff that they called in could not have done more for Mum.

Reply from Michelle Hewitson, Regional Manager at Alexander Court

Please accept our deepest sympathy on the passing of your mother. It is so nice to her that the team at Alexander Court ensured that your mother's time with us was a positive experience and that you as a family felt reassured with the care that we were providing.

My wife has been in Alexandra Court for just over a year. I can only say how pleased I am for the care and attention all at the care home have given her at all times. Even in the covid year, we have been informed at all times of the current situation. The cleanliness and feeling of well-being at the
home has made me pleased with the care my wife has been given.

I found the care home very nice, the staff and carers very helpful and friendly, sometimes we joined in with the games. Before the virus came we could visit when we wanted to. Sometimes I would visit twice a week and the place was spotless whenever I visited.

I have an enormous amount of thanks and gratitude for the staff and facilities at Alexander Court, it has been a very trying year to establish a diagnosis and future care requirements for my mum. During that time not only have the staff been extremely caring and courteous but have provided a comfortable
and safe environment for my mum to be in, this has meant so much to not just mum but me also. It has been a difficult year for everyone with restrictions in place but I have always been able to either telephone or FaceTime mum at times when visits were not possible, I am always welcomed when making a visit. I have had some of my darkest moments through the past year and the staff, as far as I’m concerned, were not just there for mum but me also, the manager has gone above and beyond at times putting my mum’s safety and care first above everything. I would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Alexander Court and will be eternally grateful for everything they have done for my mum and me, Thank You.

As a family, we were really concerned about how Mum would cope in a care home environment as she was adamant that she didn't want to go in one. But with advanced dementia and after a bad fall, there was no choice. Then there was Covid-19. However, she is happy and comfortable and has people around her.
There are activities to join in, which she can if she wants and often does. The staff are lovely and everywhere looks and smells clean. I am able now to visit Mum, which is a great relief as we didn't want her to feel abandoned by her family, although the staff help to bridge the gap, for which we are grateful.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.524)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.524) out of 10 for Alexander Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.667 for Alexander Court is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.667

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.857 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alexander Court is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.4 = 0.957

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Home Manager

We strive to provide care of the highest quality for the elderly on a permanent or respite basis, in lovely comfortable surroundings. Our team of experienced professionals constantly undergo training to provide outstanding care and support to all residents.

Our philosophy is simple; we want everyone to enjoy life to the fullest. We never forget that all our residents are individuals and we treat them with dignity, privacy and respect while offering freedom of choice and as much independence as possible.

Friends and family are welcome at any time. Hot drinks and snacks are always available and guests are invited to share a meal with residents. Our cook prepares three nutritious meals a day and the menu changes regularly to reflect seasonal produce. Special diets are catered for.
Residents have the freedom to choose what to do and when. There is plenty going and our activities coordinator puts together a full programme which is adapted to suit the needs and wishes of our residents. Activities include quizzes, sing-alongs, reminiscence therapy, indoor games, arts and crafts, baking and wherever possible, trips out and about.

I’d love to show you around the home. So if you should like a tour, or wish to discuss any aspect of elderly care with me, please telephone the home to make an appointment.
