Having been a regular visitor for the last 18 months I have nothing but praise for Alexander Court. The staff don't mind helping to sort out anything for you and there is always something happening for the residents. The food is very good and with a good variety of choice. I would recommend Alexander
Court to anyone.

The service the staff give is really good, always helpful and caring, interacting with the patients like cooking, making sandwiches, taking them to the pictures etc. At other homes I've been to the residents just sit with no activities at all, just looking at each other. You do a really good job all
of you.

Very good quality, good condition, very caring team and a very good courtyard with garden.
Activities - we go to the cinema, good entertainment, pampering, we have a foot massage and nails varnished with colours. We have films in the afternoons. The food is excellent and home cooked. Our cook is always
smiling, excellent staff. The new manager is doing well.

Most importantly our 98year old mother is very happy and content, she continues to praise all of the staff for the kind and caring way she is being looked after. My brother and I found ourselves in a very difficult position having to make a decision about our mothers ongoing care, having broken her
hip in a fall at her home we visited Alexander Court prior to her discharge from hospital, the management greeted us, gave us a tour of the home and explained in detail the way that their care is implemented. We were impressed by the cleanliness and 'feeling' in the home, our decision was made easier and we were given excellent advice and help from the staff, who are all brilliant. Our mother continues to thrive and is much improved in her health, well-being and is so happy. We as a family know that we have made the right decision. Our thanks go to the management and staff.

I can not fault this home whatsoever, the staff are very friendly and polite. They are very attentive to their residents and the care I have personally witnessed is second to none. I would certainly highly recommend this care home to anyone who asked. Management and staff were always available to talk
to and updated me with any information I needed, they also contacted me with any concerns they had or following a GP visit.

My Grandfather recently passed away after spending just under a year at Alexander Court. During his last few weeks, the staff could not have been more caring for not just my Grandad but for his family too. They treated him with such care and dignity and offered incredible support throughout his stay
to us whenever we visited. I would like to pass on my sincere gratitude to the manager and all the team, each and every one of the team are a credit to Alexander Court, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.

I cannot thank the staff for all they did for my father. Everyone of the carers made every effort possible to make sure he felt comfortable, cared for and loved. It has always been a welcoming atmosphere every time I visited. The staff do so much more above the normal physical and personal care. They
care about every single resident.

Sadly my father has now passed away but right to the end, they showed compassion love and support. I would recommend the care given here to anyone. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

A good friend of mine stayed at Alexander Court for 5 years until recently. I visited every month and was always welcomed into a clean and well presented care home. The staff were always friendly and made it feel more like a home than a care facility. Unfortunately, my friend passed on and the service
from the staff and management continued. The management helped liaise with the hospital and the funeral directors. I cannot praise them enough.

My brother went into the home, really to convalesce after being very ill.
His daughter had spent 4 years there, sadly died in March 2017, so at least he was familiar with the home and staff.
This period has been so difficult for him, he's 85 years old and had been very independent, so this was a complete
change of lifestyle. His stay has meant this really was his only chance of a better recovery, to give him a chance to carry on.
We've seen the change in him, he's put on some weight and emotional support, especially from management is second to none.
It's lovely to know such care and compassion is still about and week by week we've seen this for ourselves. We're grateful to them all!

When the manager and assistant manager came to assess my aunt and uncle in their own homes (they both had dementia) it was very clear they completely understood the needs of people with dementia. They both received fabulous care whilst residents there. A credit to all the staff and a well managed care
home by the manager.

My husband is bed bound. The duvets provided are 10.5 Tog and during the warm spell they are much too heavy. I bought a 4.5 Tog duvet which is lightweight and much more suitable. Please supply a lighter weight duvet ie 4.5 Tog for the summer months.

My husband has been in care at this home for eighteen months. At the beginning, he was a difficult and aggressive patient. The staff dealt with this kindly and efficiently. Lately, he has come to need more and more help, while still remaining a difficult and sometimes stubborn patient.
The staff have
dealt with this in a kindly and thoughtful way.
My only minor concern is that personal items often "get lost" but it appears this is a common problem in most care homes.

Reply from Tony Howland, Home Manager at Alexander Court

Thank you for your comments/review. We continue to enjoy supporting your husband at this time. As you are aware "some items" can go missing due to the nature of our Dementia residents. We will always to our upmost to location any items brought to our attention.

Staff are friendly and helpful - they have been quick to spot medical problems and arrange a doctor's visit when necessary. Unfortunately, I think there may be a slight problem keeping up with the general maintenance of the facilities. In one incident, the heater in my mum's bedroom failed (during the
cold weather) and it took several days to be repaired.

I highly recommend this care home. The care and understanding given to the residents by the staff and management are of a very high standard.
A full activity programme is in place to keep residents stimulated and entertained as much as possible, which can be of great benefit. Overall, Alexander Court
is an extremely well managed care facility.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.524)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.524) out of 10 for Alexander Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.667 for Alexander Court is calculated as follows: ( (72 Excellents x 5) + (31 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.667

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.857 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alexander Court is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 47 registered maximum number of service users is 9.4. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.4 = 0.957

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Care Home Manager

We strive to provide care of the highest quality for the elderly on a permanent or respite basis, in lovely comfortable surroundings. Our team of experienced professionals constantly undergo training to provide outstanding care and support to all residents.

Our philosophy is simple; we want everyone to enjoy life to the fullest. We never forget that all our residents are individuals and we treat them with dignity, privacy and respect while offering freedom of choice and as much independence as possible.

Friends and family are welcome at any time. Hot drinks and snacks are always available and guests are invited to share a meal with residents. Our cook prepares three nutritious meals a day and the menu changes regularly to reflect seasonal produce. Special diets are catered for.
Residents have the freedom to choose what to do and when. There is plenty going and our activities coordinator puts together a full programme which is adapted to suit the needs and wishes of our residents. Activities include quizzes, sing-alongs, reminiscence therapy, indoor games, arts and crafts, baking and wherever possible, trips out and about.

I’d love to show you around the home. So if you should like a tour, or wish to discuss any aspect of elderly care with me, please telephone the home to make an appointment.
