Dorrington House (Dereham) is a purpose-built facility that is located close to the town centre, with ample parking and one acre of established gardens. All rooms are ground floor single with en-suite facilities. The home offers Wi-Fi facilities for video visiting, and all care plans are available online.

Communal areas include a spacious main lounge/dining room as well as a bar area. Entertainment is also held in this room as well as fundraising events for 'Friends of the Home'. There is a large flat screen television for residents and a wide selection of traditional meals are offered.

Families are welcome at any time and the team encourage them to spend meaningful time with their loved ones, playing an active role in their care. Feel free to ask for the username and password to view the online care plan from home - contact the team for further details.

Relatives are welcome to come and share a meal with the residents if they wish and if ordered in advance. Residents have the use of a greenhouse and some of the more physically able residents use the greenhouse and sell the flowers and vegetables to raise money for 'Friends of the Home'. I cannot praise the staff at Dorrington House enough. Since Mum has been there, January 2020, she has nothing but thrived. When she arrived she was a very sick and frail woman. She now looks 15 years younger than her 89 years and her skin and hair look soft and healthy. She is a different woman to the
one who arrived. She has put on weight and smiles all the time. The staff take time to stimulate her mind and are always kind and helpful. They really do care.

I was really scared that my hubby had to go into a home, but I should not have worried! The staff are wonderful and really take care of our loved ones. I can't thank them enough for what they do for my husband, nothing is too much trouble. If I could give them the top rating, I would!

Having current experience of visiting other care homes in the area, I realize, by comparison, how homely Dorrington House is. This generates a tolerant and happy atmosphere which may too be partly because of the free mixing of residents in their "normal" minds and those not so.
A visitor's toilet could
be an asset as some come from a distance.

My Mother has been a resident at Dorrington House (Dereham) for five months now and she is the most content that I have seen her for years. The staff are always courteous and helpful. They contact me promptly whenever there is a change in her condition and I know I can query anything at any time.

My mother was resident in two other care homes from 2015 and after moving again to this current home in July 2015 we have been very pleased and satisfied with the care that she's received. The staff and management are always keen to discuss matters and take positive action in the welfare of my mother.
The food is of a good standard and they try their best to cater for all needs.

I am very happy with the help and support my aunt receives at Dorrington House. I see my aunt regularly and staff and management are always polite and helpful to me and kind and courteous to residents. My aunt who is nearly 92 frequently praises the staff saying "They are all very kind and patient"
as well as "I'm lucky to be here being so well looked after." Dorrington House does a wonderful job and excellent staff - resident relationships as any visit will attest.

As we looked at homes we soon realised that apart from the basics the attitude and amount of staff were the most important thing. We have never met a single staff member at Dorrington House who hasn't been polite, attentive and compassionate. The food is good. Most important for a blind lady they have
ensuite bathrooms so many homes don't have them! Vital for dignity.

Mum is very happy at Dorrington House. My only concern is that on occasions items have gone missing from her room. She has also been on occasions wearing clothing that do not belong to her.
The food is excellent with a varied diet. She also is clean and has her regular bath/showers. Her clothing is
changed daily. Overall an excellent home which I would recommend.

All the staff are very caring, nothing is too much trouble. Whatever you ask them to do, they do it, they are always clean and tidy, the food is very good.


Just one thing and this is the only thing, the home could do with some fragrant sprays.

In view of how difficult I can see it is, to care for the people you have in your care along with regulations, staff issues (sickness, holiday, leaving etc) my wife and I can only say good things about the care my Father has received since joining your care home Dorrington House in Dereham. Considering
he has vascular dementia and is 89 years old but still very active, he is in a very happy place.

The staff are very helpful and happy and I have not found one yet with an attitude unacceptable in the position they hold. I could name many by name who have introduced themselves to us at various points and have been nothing but polite kind caring helpful and most times doing more than I would expect of them with A HAPPY NOTE IN THEIR VOICE.

As for the fabric of the building and cleanliness there are no faults, it never smells of anything awful, the place is cleaned and vacuumed more times than we do our own busy household. The gardens are pleasant and safe and away from wind AND VERY SECURE as the buildings surround them, a great design attribute from where I see it.

My experiences of care homes, to be fair, is limited, however, I never hear people crying out for hours on end whilst I am visiting, every one of the staff are attentive to all residents at all times regardless of what they have to do. As I have made comments before I do not need to remind you of some of the very lovely things we have enjoyed at Dorrington House along with members of your staff…. both male and female staff, there are no exceptions.

Please keep working hard to maintain the status quo in Dorrington House as it is hard. Do not be despondent when things go wrong, as they will, take them as a learning lesson or a reminder of what should be done. Please remember we are all fallible and not perfect, your staff I am sure do their best, it's up to you/us to keep them motivated to continue as they are. What lovely people you have there, you either made them like it, keep them like it or they are naturally like it. I think it’s a mixture of all those along with a pleasant working condition.
