Harker House care home has been purpose built in the village of Long Stratton to provide residential care to 35 people over 65-years-old. The home includes a special secure unit for residents living with dementia.

Residents are invited to personalise their furnished room which also contains an emergency call bell system, fire alarm system and TV socket.

The home has adapted baths and showers, a payphone (although residents can choose to have a telephone point in their room), a hairdressing room and a secure garden.

The home prides itself on its friendly and welcoming environment and all residents have a key worker who works on the individual’s personal care plan, which is continuously reviewed so residents’ choices, interests and hobbies are all accounted for.

My mum has been a resident at Harker House for 2 months now. We had previously had a dreadful experience of a temporary care home after Mum was discharged from hospital. So making a decision for her to remain in a care home was extremely difficult, and probably the hardest thing I've ever had to do,
but from my first conversation with the manager here, to viewing the home, and subsequently mum moving in, all my fears and concerns have been allayed. From the moment we arrived, we were met by the manager, deputy manager and care staff who could not have made us feel more welcome, and even made us laugh! All the staff, have been extremely friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable and have cared for my mum with the utmost professionalism. Mum has settled well, and I am always kept up to date with her welfare. Myself and my family are able to visit whenever we like, including with Mum's dog! I feel happy and confident that mum is receiving excellent care at Harker House.

Both the manager and deputy manager were waiting for my grandmother to arrive on her first day. They welcomed her and my parents. A very warm, inclusive and friendly atmosphere. Viewing to admission took only two days, and amazing support and consideration were given during this time. My grandmother
was playing bingo with other residents by the time my parents left. Such a relief to the family knowing she is being cared for as family.

My father has been at Harker House for the last 2 weeks from the time he was welcomed by numerous members of staff as well as the manager and assistant manager he has thrived and has been looked after more than myself and the rest of the family could have wished for.
The manager and all the staff are
a credit to their profession giving not only my father but all the residents we have seen their undivided attention, the food and beverages being top-notch even down to the residents being able to help themselves to fruit and snacks at any time of the day or night from the numerous snack stations around the home.
The whole home, grounds and even the car park are extremely well kept and having spoken to the manager there are even plans for raised planters so the green-fingered residents can tend their own garden.
During the day the residents are kept occupied with bingo, music, quizzes and much more all the family are so glad he is being cared for so well in such a safe environment.

My Dad is on the dementia unit and he is very happy and well looked after. It is so much better for him to be in a Care Home rather than at home with carers coming in. He has company all of the time, or if he wishes to be quiet, he can go to his own room.
During lockdown, the staff gave him love and
affection which we were unable to give him physically. Telephone calls or video calls are good, but not as good as a hug.
The carers do a wonderful job and staff have made Harker House into a "home from home".

I worked at Harker House for 3 years, the staff, the management and the atmosphere was unbeatable. Everyone was so dedicated to providing such a high level of care and support to those who couldn’t achieve this independently. We were like a big, happy family at Harker House and I will never forget such
precious memories we all shared. Harker House will always have such a special place in my heart. It taught me how to grow and develop my career into what I have always dreamed of doing. There is such a huge range of activities and the food all the residents love them! The home is managed exceptionally well and I remain grateful for all the support the management team have given me.

A lovely, clean, smart, vibrant and happy home with caring and kind staff. Taking care of my mum, who has many needs and help. Staff always there if you have any concerns or questions. Would recommend and have recommended to others. Wish we were out of lockdown; this can't go on forever.

I am very pleased where he is. It is clean, the staff are very caring, and nothing is too much trouble. His room is lovely, the food is very good, and there is a variation in the menu. He is very happy and seems content there.

My Mum came to Harker House from another residential home where she was not happy.
Since arriving at Harker House Mum has had nothing but praise for the management and the staff for the wonderful care and support she receives. Nothing is too much trouble, the staff are responsive very kind, friendly
and attentive.
Myself and my siblings could not be happier with her care and would highly recommend Harker House to other families looking for great residential care.

Grandad came to Harker House during the Lockdown in 2020 and it was hard because of the restrictions to visitors but the staff were wonderful and made Grandad really welcome and gave him much reassurance during his time at Harker House was really well cared for and seemed happy. Every time our family
visited Grandad and the residents they were always treated very well and with dignity. I am very grateful to all of the staff for everything they did for my Grandad. It is a really nice home.

I recently lost someone very special to me who had been a resident with dementia of Harker House for four and a half years. I cannot stress enough how grateful I am to the amazing staff who cared for her during that time. Nothing was ever too much trouble to them, the standard of care she received was
incredible, and the communication with me during such trying times was superb. I was able to spend time with her during her last days and the level of respect, dignity and tenderness from the staff to not only her, but to me also, was exceptional. Thank you to everyone at Harker House, you are truly wonderful!

Mother has been in Harker House for two and a half years and she loves it. Since the pandemic, I have never worried about the constant good care, respect and love that she receives from all those who work so hard to make all residents at home there. Mum has always been a very social lady and is still
able to join in group activities like coffee mornings, bingo and card games. She has told us that they have “kept her going through lockdown.”
Mum recently turned 101 years old, when the day arrived the heavens opened and we resigned ourselves to a short window visit. The staff were not having any of it! We went shown into a room and she was brought in. Within minutes we had a delicious tea and cake brought in. We enjoyed a very happy visit looking at her cards and gifts. The dining room (viewed through an outside window) was decorated with balloons and other birthday trimmings in her honour and she received a beautiful and birthday cake.
Harker house is an exceptional home!

My father in law has been at Harker House for nearly 2 years, and all I can say is the staff that work there from the admin to the carers themselves and everybody in between are fantastic.
Both myself and my husband can not thank them enough for what they do, 24 hours a day 7 days a week to bring a
sense of normality, to what I would envisage must be a very confusing world for my father in law.
We can visit when we like and call him, so he knows we are still about, and we can also take him out and about (pre-arranged).
If I was asked to recommend a care home to somebody Harker House would be at the top of my list, as the staff have gone above and beyond anything we could have done, and above all it gives us as a family peace of mind that he is getting the best care possible, for his needs and nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff.
If I had to rate Harker House it gets 110% from us. Excellent care home.

My mum was moved from a private home costing over £1000 a week to a council-funded dementia bed at Harker House several months ago. Not knowing what to expect from a care home, I had previously accepted many issues around monitoring her care as inevitable due to the pressures of the pandemic. In fact,
Mum’s time at Harker House has shown me that her care can be monitored down to the smallest detail. The staff at Harker House keep detailed records of my mum's care on handheld devices and are happy to share these details with me. I have been really impressed with the care given to Mum at Harker House and the professional attitude displayed by the staff. The staff are always keen to learn more about her to make sure her needs are fully catered for. In short, not all care homes are created equal and I would wholeheartedly recommend Harker House and the excellent management style displayed by the manager and her lovely team. I feel really reassured that mum is receiving the best care available.

Mum moved into Harker House in September 2021. Since she arrived she has been warmly welcomed and after a shaky start whilst she adapted to her new surroundings, she now couldn't be happier. There is not a time when Mum doesn't praise the high level of care she receives and has built really strong relationships
with staff. She truly feels safe and secure and says she doesn't have to worry about anything. Her personalised care includes her newspaper being delivered every day, hairdresser weekly and poached eggs for breakfast. She often thinks she is in a hotel! The manager is brilliant and keeps us updated regularly with any changes and I feel the communication from all staff is excellent. Anytime we have taken Mum out she is welcomed back so warmly with friendly faces and hugs (when Covid allows). As a healthcare professional myself I have high standards and I think Harker House has lived up to every expectation and our family couldn't be more relieved and happy.

When I took my Dad to view Harker House he loved the experience and as he walked out the door, he said "I could happily live there". He has been in Harker House for over two years now and the level of care has been consistently high throughout that time.
Dad has been treated with love and respect by
all the staff and it is obvious from the way the staff treat Dad that it is more than a job - it is as if they are looking after their own family.
I have also been treated as an extension of that family in that the staff have been happy to relate messages and hugs to Dad and when Dad moved rooms a member of staff showed me round the room on video calls.
The support of the staff to me has been above the call of duty and I am totally reassured that Dad is in the best possible care.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Harker House to anyone who needs residential care.

Sadly my mother died on April 29th 2021 (at age 100) having been living at Harker House for almost two years. I cannot fault her care throughout her stay at Harker House. The staff are wonderful, caring and compassionate, creating a family-friendly atmosphere for all the residents. It is only when
you visit you realise caring is a vocation, not just a job. As my mother's health deteriorated with advancing dementia her care plan was adjusted to match her needs. This made her final days as happy and fulfilled as possible. Thank you all at Harker House.

I have worked in care since 2007, starting off as a care assistant and progressing into my current position. I have experience of working in various care settings and my last role before joining the team at Harker Houser was as the Manager of a home providing dementia care.


I absolutely love how varied my days are and how rewarding it is to make a difference to residents’ lives by providing good quality, person centred care.
