Shiels Court is a very good care home. The residents are very well cared for and whatever the problem is, the staff are willing to help. My mother has been at the home approximately 4 years and we really have seen the home come on, especially in the last 8-9 months. The new management have improved
the home with decoration and furniture. Staff are always on hand and I know that if there were any issues I could approach them and they would sort it out. I would recommend Shiels Court to my friends and family.

Shiels Court is a very good care home. I have visited the home since my brother was placed last year and the new management have really turned the home around in the last 6 months. The home is being decorated and looks very nice with some character. I would recommend.

Shiels Court is a worthwhile place for a person with complex needs or otherwise. Main reasons would be the recent improvements that have been made to the home including redecoration and changes in management which has resulted in much better quality of care and a happy atmosphere within the home. The
new manager and her team are really putting their heart and souls into making Shiels Court a quality provider and this is beginning to be seen. Continue the hard work in wanting to provide person centered care and thank you for all you do for my loved one.

I feel Shiels Court is moving in the right direction under the current management. Despite the inadequate rating by the CQC in December improvements have been implemented and the manager is open to change. Staff training, once fully implemented, will aid this.

Architecturally the home has positive

features. The main rooms are easily accessible to residents and there are no lengthy corridors that can be a negative feature of some establishments. Furniture is of a good standard. The garden is pleasant but paths could be safer with more grab rails.

The home caters for a range of clients which can be a positive, especially as ages cover a wider spectrum and the male to female balance reflects the wider society.

Importantly the staff are good at communicating health issues and ensuring medical attention is called in as necessary.

My mum lived at Shiels Court for a few years before she sadly passed away in July 2015. This is a lovely home, my mum was very happy there, enjoyed the activities etc that went on. Loved having a sing along and enjoyed the church service once monthly.
There were always plenty of staff and you would
always see the same faces (sign of a good place to work in my eyes). The main lounge was nice and big, the whole place was always clean and tidy and the food they served was always all cooked fresh. There was always the tea/coffee trolley going round with everybodies favourite 'pink wafers'.
If mum was ever ill I was always kept informed, even for the slightest of things. The manager and her team do a top job and they all deserve a good pat on the back. Even in mum's last few hours she was treated with utmost dignity as were we as a family - Thank you Shiels Court.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.449)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.449) out of 10 for Braydeston Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.549 for Braydeston Court is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 102 Ratings = 4.549

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Braydeston Court is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
