Shipdham Manor, which is more than 200 years old, may have a lot of history but offers facilities very much in keeping with the twenty-first century.

Shipdham Manor in Shipdham is well-situated to give residents easy access to the local post office, church, village store and doctor's surgery.

Care staff are chosen not only for their skills but also for the warmth, friendliness and caring attitude.

An optician, dentist and chiropodist regularly visit the care home and an in-house hairdressing salon caters to residents' hair needs as well as providing manicures.

Mum has been with the home a while now and can only praise them all for the hard work, cleanliness and the respect they show to all. Great home.

Mum has been a resident now for about 4 years and the whole time she has lived at Shipdham Manor, the staff have been wonderful. The place has a friendly homely feel and the manager and her staff work extremely hard to provide first-class care. We had no hesitation in choosing Shipdham Manor for mum
as we had already experienced their professionalism as my paternal grandmother had been a resident too.

My step-mum was previously in 2 other care homes which I was not happy with. What a difference Shipdham Manor is, the staff are all very caring, there is always someone around to answer any questions and the manager updates me regularly on any health issues. My step-mum has sadly deteriorated in her
general health, she always looks comfortable in bed and the staff check her regularly and offer her drinks.

After visiting several care homes previously, my first thought as I entered the front door was there isn't that smell that I've come to attribute to care homes. The cleanliness and indeed the care given to my mother is exemplary and it certainly made me feel that we, as a family, made the correct decision.

My Dad was transferred here after a long stay in the hospital. The care home manager was most helpful and accommodating to my Dad's needs.

The staff were all friendly and helpful and made a good effort to get to know dad in the 5 and a half months he was a resident.

Sadly Dad deteriorated quite

rapidly in the last month and we were kept up to date with any changes. Compassion was in abundance from all staff who were there on the day Dad passed away.

In the final days before her death, my Aunt received the highest care. She was treated with dignity and respect. Kindness was shown both to her and to her family. We were kept fully informed of the situation and able to contact the home if we needed to know about anything. On her death, the care home
manager couldn't have been more supportive and helpful.

Very clean in all areas. Plenty of activities. Staff very welcoming and easy to approach to discuss mum's care. The manager has been superb. Before, during and after mum's move from another home. Everything is well organised and I cannot praise Shipdham Manor enough.

From the time Dad entered Shipdham Manor, until he passed away some 5 years later, he always received the highest level of care. We were always kept informed of what was happening. The staff at Shipdham Manor really became family to him in his final years.

Final months of my mother's care at Shipdham Manor. Though ailing fast since Christmas she was afforded the same level of care and kindness that I have come to expect from this establishment. In her last few day's I was kept fully informed of all that was being done to keep her comfortable and I believe
her dignity was respected right to the end. After her passing the home's staff continued to keep me fully informed of events and this made the whole process that little bit easier to bear.

My mother has never made any complaints to us about her care in the four and half years she has lived here and we believe she has had a good quality of life.
She is now totally dependent on her carers, but still takes a more sedate active part in the many different activities offered.

My dear friend, for whom I hold Power of Attorney, reached 100 on October 28th. I cannot thank the Manager and wonderful staff of Shipdham Manor enough for the lovely day they made for her. A full hour of entertainment by an 'Elvis' tribute act, followed by a small private tea party in a beautifully
arranged 'tea-room' within the Manor will make it a day we will all remember for a long time to come. One of the staff made a beautiful cake and matching tea-cakes together with a good selection of sandwiches. Seeing the resident's happy faces enjoy the entertainment, and some enjoying a dance, showed me how fortunate I was in getting my friend placed here last summer following problems with her previous residential care home.

The party was the second occasion I have been able to visit the home, the first being in July, shortly after my friend was placed here. I was given the opportunity to see the facilities, rooms and kitchen/dining areas and must say I was impressed with all aspects.

My partner of almost forty years, died peacefully in Shipdham Manor last Wednesday on the 26th of November. In the days leading up to his passing, the Shipdham angels did him proud. When I was there and when I wasn't they sat with him, talked to him and reassured him, treating him with the same level
of care and dignity that they had always shown him.
As I have said in previous reviews.. I just thank my lucky stars that I found this wonderful place 2 and a half years ago. The love and attention they devote to the residents is unsurpassed. The support they show towards the relatives is so genuine, sensitive and much appreciated. A truly amazing group of staff led by a fantastic manager.

Shipdham Manor remains as I have always known it to be of a very high standard in all respects. The recent inspection has proven this with a good score in all areas. I must say however that I am rather disappointed for the carers that the result wasn't an outstanding inspection as they rightly deserve.
I would recommend this facility to anyone without reservation, relatives can be safe in the knowledge that residents are well looked after and the atmosphere is as homely as is possible to create. I have total confidence in all aspects of the way manor is run, I honestly cannot see any way that things could be done better than they are now.

Shipdham Manor have been looking after my mother and are doing the very best they can in difficult circumstances. I live three hours away so the regular updates provided by the manager and staff are invaluable. My mother recently turned 85 and Shipdham Manor made a cake for her and celebrated the day
properly. The staff are second to none.

My mother-in-law has now resided at this care home for quite some time.
During the whole of this period the care, both professional and pastoral, has been exemplary.
The home has an extremely personal feel that puts both my mother-in-law and her family at ease;
This is reinforced by the disposition
of the staff who I have found all, without exception, to be everything I as a family member would want them to be.
I would not hesitate to wholeheartedly recommend this care home.

My husband has been a resident since 2013. The care he has received has been wonderful, from the whole team from top to bottom. In the past few weeks he has needed care beyond the norm and received it. I can't fault them.

In my experience I find Shipdham Manor to be always clean and friendly, the staff are most helpful, and obliging and very efficient. It is always secure, and visiting times are very convenient. My mum has been a resident since 2006 and she will be 100 next year. I think this is due to the care and attention
she has received in the last 10 years.

While I visited my friend he was made as comfortable as possible, was offered drinks, turned regularly and staff treated him with respect and spoke to him normally. The room he is in is light, bright and cheerful. The staff are very friendly to visitors and kind and gentle with the residents. I was
very impressed with everything at Shipdham Manor in Shipdham.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.523)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.523) out of 10 for Shipdham Manor is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.771 for Shipdham Manor is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.771

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.752 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shipdham Manor is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.4 = 0.952

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
