After viewing several care homes, I was pleased to find The Briars. A small, homely place which I thought would be just right for my husband. The staff were very good and cared for him. I had every confidence in leaving him in their care. If I had any issues regarding his welfare I was able to speak
to management and it was soon addressed and put right. I am so grateful for their care and attention, helping me at this difficult time.

My husband was always cared for. With respect, kindness, was kept out of pain, clean and he was always happy at The Briars. When he was at the end of his life they cared for him with all the love and care I could have asked for. He did not suffer. He was very peaceful. They treated me the same. What
a wonderful team the manager has. I miss them all.

I feel my father was given the best care for his situation, he was quite difficult and challenging at times. The staff here dealt with him with care and support throughout. The home was always clean and well kept. All staff were amazing, from the date he was admitted right through to his death. I would
highly recommend this care home.

All the staff are attentive and caring. My mother is very well taken care of and eats well. Their understanding and patience with dementia is commendable.
Having to leave my mother in their competent care is reassuring.

My mum has been at Briars since August 2018 and from the start, mum has been treated with patience and understanding as she has dementia and very limited mobility. The owner and staff are very professional whilst always warm and friendly which puts mum, myself and family very much at ease. I know they
do the best they can for our dear mum and residents and would recommend them highly.

The home is very welcoming with friendly caring staff. Always a pleasure to visit - the staff know my partner well and his care is excellent as he can be quite challenging at times.
He receives good person-centred care and his needs are met in a dignified manner.
The home is always clean and he enjoys
the meals.
I am very happy with all aspects of his care.

My aunt is very well looked after and communication from the home regarding my aunt is excellent.
She is happy and always smiling. I could not wish for better care. In the four and a half years she has been a resident at no time has she ever complained about the staff or her treatment, in fact quite
the reverse. Anyone looking to run a care home could take lessons from The Briars. Thanks guys, you do a great job.

This is my first experience of a care home and I didn't know what to expect, but, I have to say that the care that my father receives is exceptionally good.
He is looked after really well by local staff and whenever I call them all members of staff know how he is and all about his care plan.
The Briars
liaise with the local Dementia Intensive Support Team (DIST) and have kept me up to date about my father's condition in between my visits, so it is a big thank you to the team.

Mum had been residing at The Briars Residential
and Care Ltd since April 2015, she was very settled there and received
excellent care. At the beginning of December, Mum was in hospital where they
did some tests. It was decided she would be more comfortable back at the
Briars, it put our minds at
rest knowing she was in a safe and comfortable
environment with her familiar surroundings and carers. The doctor came out and
said Mum's time was coming to an end. The dignity and care mum received was
second to none. She was made very comfortable and was monitored all the time to
make sure she was not in any pain or suffering. Nothing was too much trouble
and we spent a lot of time at The Briars during Mum's final weeks. They were
all very supportive. Mum passed away on the 27th December 2017. I cannot thank
The Briars and the staff enough for the dedication and care they provided
throughout mum's time there.

My mother has been a resident since 2001. She is very happy and often tells me how fortunate she feels to live there.

She enjoys the food and activities very much. The staff are very good to her and deal with her changing needs very effectively. I am always made to feel welcome. The manager and deputy

are very experienced and are always willing to discuss and listen to any concerns I have and are ready to explain matters to me in an easy and informative way.

Well done to everyone involved. It is a very positive environment. Please keep up the good work.

It is always a pleasure to visit my father in Briar's Care Home. He is always cheerful and this is due in the main to the fun engendered by all the staff and from the many activities in which he takes part. The atmosphere is one of care support whilst also encouraging him to have independent decisions.

I can only speak extremely highly of the care my Mother enjoyed during her stay at The Briars.
All of the staff without exception were always very pleasant, very interested and involved in the well-being of the residents, and my Mother regularly told us of how happy and indeed fortunate she was to
be in such a lovely place.
When the time came for my Mother to pass, the palliative care she experienced, in conjunction with the local GP practice, could not have been better.
First class care - well done to all the staff at The Briars.

My mother has been at the Briars for 3 years. It is a small friendly home where all staff from the cleaner to management interact well with the residents. Throughout her stay, I have found the carers to be excellent they treat Mum with kindness and compassion whilst respecting her dignity. I visit regularly
and observe the consistency of her care should I have any issues to raise they are dealt with promptly.

During the five months, my mother spent at The Briars Residential and Care I was very impressed with the standard of service and care given by the staff and management. She was never overlooked and was attended to very well. I visited every two to three days and was able to see for myself the high
standard of care and compassion given to her.

Although my dear mum was only at The Briars care home for a short time I couldn't have wished for better care. Every time I visited her (and I didn't give any prior warning) there were always plenty of staff at hand if she needed anyone. The staff were very friendly and kind and the food was excellent.
The chef even asked me if my mum had anything she liked most. I would certainly recommend their home.

The management are very hands on. Often to be seen helping with the residents and I have seen the management having her lunch in with the residents instead of tucked a way in the main office. The food is very good. The chef seems to work very hard. Care staff are very good and to my mind treat the residents
with dignity. Activities are very good. Trips out crafts and spending short periods of time with each resident, music, singing, church services, hairdressers and chiropodist, doctors ect seem readily at hand. The home is very homely.

We feel that we do not always get told information about my wife's medical condition as much as we would like. We seem to find out about this at review meetings which isn't often enough. e.g. dvt, medication and her condition of Alzheimer's.

Reply from Karen Stokeld, Manager/Owner at The Briars Residential Care Home

We are happy to speak to any family members when they visit. The Local GP or CPN's happy to speak directly to the family or NOK at anytime to allay any concerns they may have.

My aunt was a resident at The Briars for almost 9 years until her death in December. She was always very happy there. She was very well looked after, treated with respect by all the staff and management. In the whole 9 years we had almost nothing to complain about at all just a couple of very minor
things. I would recommend The Briars 100% to anyone as an excellent care home.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.353)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.353) out of 10 for The Briars Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.553 for The Briars Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (55 Excellents x 5) + (36 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.553

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Briars Residential Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 17 registered maximum number of service users is 3.4, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
