The Chevington Lodge Victorian town house offers the perfect setting for the retired. Having undergone a major refurbishment, as well as adopting a continuous replacement programme, Chevington offers a stylish combination of modern facilities within period surroundings.

Chevington is situated overlooking the beautiful Waveney valley in the market town of Bungay and is a home for elderly people with dementia.

Chevington Lodge takes pride in the caring service it offers and is always looking to improve the service they offer and making sure the resident comes first in whatever they do. The brother and sister team who provide the service at Chevington are involved on a daily basis to ensure an ‘excellent’ service is maintained for all residents.

The aim of the provider is to achieve an accommodation that feels like a home rather than a hotel, using good quality furnishings and making sure they are well maintained inside and out.

A well-trained team of staff support the long standing manager Ioana in proudly delivering person-centred care, daily activities, and lovely traditional home cooked food sourced from local suppliers.

Chevington provides both long and short term care, with potential service users able to make appointments and view the property for themselves.

My mother has been a resident for 7 years, since May 2013. She is 94 and suffers with advanced dementia and has been bedridden for the last 4 years, meaning the staff have to provide ALL forms of welfare and care as she is totally incapable of helping herself. We have the highest admiration for all
the staff for their care, consideration and compassion. They are without question dedicated professionals. We thank them all, past and present. The approach centres on the individual, not just on facilities and aesthetics, personalising their approach to each resident not a one way covers all.

My uncle had been a resident of the home for five years. During the last few months, his dementia had become worse and at the age of 95, he was slowly slipping away. The home were very supportive of the family and the care that they gave my uncle during his last few weeks was exemplary. The staff made
every effort to keep him settled and pain-free during the last weeks of his life. The home arranged for a special hospital-style bed to be provided and kept his room warm and comfortable with regular checks throughout the day and night and encouraging him to eat and drink. His room was kept spotless and his linen changed daily or more often.

My mother moved into the care of Chevington Lodge in May 2007 and passed away late October 2019. During the whole of this time, she received superb care. As her dementia progressed she, at times, became frightened and difficult. The care team managed her problem days perfectly. Later she became bedridden
and was provided with a hospital bed and air mattress which kept her as comfortable as possible. She was, for the last two years, unable to eat solid food so was fed a special protein food by hand. Her care at this time was so difficult, I can only say how much respect I hold for everyone at Chevington. We were free to come and go as we wished, we were always offered tea and biscuits during our visits, care records were kept in the room for us to inspect.
I cannot praise the management team, caregivers, catering and laundry staff enough for what they give to their clients. I would also like to thank the business owners for the kind way they looked after us.

As a family, we have nothing but the highest of praise for Chevington Lodge and its staff for the care and dignity given to my mother. The home operates the highest standard of cleanliness and the quality of care given by the staff is second to none. My mother is treated with kindness and respect, given
the level of care needed. We feel safe and comforted by the approach towards all the residents that we see on a regular basis.

Following on emergency admission in July 2017, the health of each of the couple (both residents at Chevington Lodge) has deteriorated significantly within the last 6 months. They now need much higher levels of care and support and we continue to be very impressed with all of the staff at Chevington
Lodge, who have continued to provide the highest level of care. We have also valued Chevington Lodge's willingness to discuss openly with us future care planning.

I visit on a regular basis and the standard of care I have seen has been very good. My mother says "All the staff are kind and the food is good". I have found all the staff friendly and all respect the residents. I am kept informed of any health issues etc. Chevington Lodge is always presented clean
and tidy. My only criticism is that although I know they have group activities it would be good to encourage the more able residents to be involved in a few more activities.

The care that dad received was next to none. Kind, friendly care always done with a smile and nothing was too much when asked. His dignity was always taken into consideration and although his stay was short, he had the best care possible.

I am 89 years old. I have been here for nearly two years. The care and attention of the Manager, carers, cleaners, cooks etc are outstanding. This is home from home and I wish to spend the rest of my time here. I am so happy.

My father continues to receive excellent care and support appropriate to his ever-increasing needs.
Issues, as they arise, are quickly addressed involving ourselves in any solutions.
Staff attitudes and competence are excellent and I would recommend this home to others without hesitation.

My mother is very well looked after, cared for with dignity and gentleness. I find all the staff to be helpful when I visit. I know they are busy but they always have time for me and the residents. The food always looks and smells nice.
I feel very confident leaving my mum in care at Chevington Lodge.
Thank
you.

Mum suffered from Parkinson's disease for 15 years and following a fall and breaking her hip, needed constant care.
A room was available at Chevington Lodge.
Mum spent nearly seven years there and sadly passed away on January 28th.
The care Mum had at the home from all the staff was exceptional,
right to the end of her life.

I have visited my aunt in this home for five years and said how well she was treated. When my mother needed to into care at the age of 94, we decided she should go into Chevington Lodge. I have seen that all the staff and management treat the residents with great care and compassion. Activities are
arranged on a daily basis together with exercises to keep both mind and body active as possible. My mother is happy and contented and well looked after which is what I wanted and I have no complaints about her care.

My cousin was cared for at Chevington Lodge, for twelve months until her death. Throughout that time she received excellent care, physically emotionally and medically. She entered the home following a stroke which worsened her dementia. However, as a result of the attention she received her condition
improved and she enjoyed a happy final year despite a gradually deteriorating memory and additional physical complications. The staff all and everyone were warm and welcoming and communicated well with me. A loving atmosphere.

As a former employee I can tell you that they treat the residents as individuals , with dignity and respect and not as a number. Highly person centred, good activities for residents, awesome training for staff and very friendly environment. Many outdoor activities, boat trips when available.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.416)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.416) out of 10 for Chevington Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.902 for Chevington Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 82 Ratings = 4.902

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.514 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chevington Lodge is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 43 registered maximum number of service users is 8.6. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.6 = 0.814

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
