  • Chrissian Residential Home, Ipswich
Chrissian House was established in 1974 and is registered to care for 22 elderly residents. The name was formed from the previous owners two sons ‘Chris and Ian’. Converted from two detached houses, it stands in its own extensive grounds, with the garden area surrounded by flowers and mature trees.

In 1990 the home was extended via converting a detached house next to the main building (annexe). Both houses have their own kitchen, dining area and lounge with a conservatory where residents can participate in daytime activities such as table games and puzzles. The home offers a happy, warm, friendly family atmosphere and environment.

Chrissian Residential Home Ltd has been built and furnished to a high standard. The home is situated on one of the main roads leading to the eastern side of the town in a residential suburb. Local buses run every 20 minutes to the town centre, with hairdressers, a Spar shop and fruit and vegetable stores as well as many others in the vicinity of the home.

A Church Service is held at the home. All other denominations are encouraged to visit the home. If you require assistance to maintain contact with your desired faith/religious service, please discuss this with the manager. Holy Communion is held in the home the first Monday of the month.

Chrissian House provides residential care for both genders of any age.

The home's aim is to give the resident the opportunity to live as members of a local community in ways which are accepted as normal and valued, allowing for full use of a range of local facilities, for example: - shops, cafes and sports centres. Hopefully in time the residents will also become part of their local community. All staff recognise and promote residents' rights, privacy, dignity, care and respect.

There is CCTV in place for communal areas - this is for the safety of staff, service users and visitors, and they have a CCTV and SARS policy in place.

I wish to express the excellent care he is receiving and the improvements in his quality of life. It's extremely homely/friendly, relaxing and calm and care is prompt and an excellent standard. His mobility and confidence have improved and now goes to the shops by himself. He's regained happiness; the
social worker noted the big improvements in health etc. He laughs often with everyone and always says the food is delicious and has put on weight since moving in.
His appearance has improved, and his social worker commented on how much happier/healthier and content he has become.
He is like his old self, he loves the companionship, conversations, and new relationships he's making. Lastly, which makes it more homely - the owners are very involved and there regularly. I think it makes it a homelier/family feeling, it has been owned by the same family for a long time, I think 40 years and they do go above and beyond for all.
He is very well cared for, very happy, and feels he is at home from home - Thank You.

Chrissian is a friendly Home, and staff have always gone above and beyond to make my father feel included and cared for. When we visit, even though they are busy, they do what they can to move things around so we can sit in a quiet area with him. The latest manager has even noticed new things that no-one
has spotted before, which should help him to be more comfortable. It's good to feel like staff care as much for your loved one's wellbeing as you do.

The staff know patients' likes and dislikes. On our wedding anniversary, they gave us a special dinner in one of the rooms, beautifully set out, champagne glasses, a beautifully cooked meal and a large bouquet. I am always greeted with a cup of tea. Everyone is friendly, patients are given assurance
and the staff show they care. Always staff at hand.

This is a very homely care home.
My mother is a resident and is very happy here.
The staff are all very friendly and very professional, but most of all, they are compassionate.
I feel safe in the knowledge that they keep me informed about Mum, and I feel I could speak to them about anything.
Owners,
management and staff are all excellent.
I only ever see happy faces when I visit.

The home lacks what other homes in the area offer in way of facilities and outings to activities available in the area. I have a friend who has a resident in another home which offers vastly enhanced features and outings etc. such as organised visits to the coast and theatres etc.

My mother passed away in April of this year after her health deteriorated with the onset of dementia. My mum looked at Chrissian Residential Home as her home and she regarded the other residents and staff as family. I can't speak highly enough of the management and staff, they are a credit to their
profession.

Thank you for your review Michael - I will ensure all the staff and management are made aware of your kind words, they are very much appreciated. Mum is greatly missed. Hope you and your family do visit/have a coffee whenever you are nearby. Thank you again.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.564)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.564) out of 10 for Chrissian Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.664 for Chrissian Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (74 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.664

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chrissian Residential Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 22 registered maximum number of service users is 4.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
