Chrissian House was established in 1974 and is registered to care for 22 elderly residents. The name was formed from the previous owners two sons ‘Chris and Ian’. Converted from two detached houses, it stands in its own extensive grounds, with the garden area surrounded by flowers and mature trees.

In 1990 the home was extended via converting a detached house next to the main building (annexe). Both houses have their own kitchen, dining area and lounge with a conservatory where residents can participate in daytime activities such as table games and puzzles. The home offers a happy, warm, friendly family atmosphere and environment.

Chrissian Residential Home Ltd has been built and furnished to a high standard. The home is situated on one of the main roads leading to the eastern side of the town in a residential suburb. Local buses run every 20 minutes to the town centre, with hairdressers, a Spar shop and fruit and vegetable stores as well as many others in the vicinity of the home.

A Church Service is held at the home. All other denominations are encouraged to visit the home. If you require assistance to maintain contact with your desired faith/religious service, please discuss this with the manager. Holy Communion is held in the home the first Monday of the month.

Chrissian House provides residential care for both genders of any age.

The home's aim is to give the resident the opportunity to live as members of a local community in ways which are accepted as normal and valued, allowing for full use of a range of local facilities, for example: - shops, cafes and sports centres. Hopefully in time the residents will also become part of their local community. All staff recognise and promote residents' rights, privacy, dignity, care and respect.

There is CCTV in place for communal areas - this is for the safety of staff, service users and visitors, and they have a CCTV and SARS policy in place.

My dad was in Chrissian for 5 months. I noted the poor standard of care in terms of low-quality food (supermarket budget pies, etc) being confined to his room (because of lack of staff) and most worryingly his ‘unmet care needs’ according to Social Services. When challenging the inadequacy of the overall
care, rather than seeking to address the justified concerns, they acted both confrontationally and defensively.
On a number of occasions, I would arrange to visit him and travel for an hour, only to be turned away as he had not been brought down to the conservatory. I asked if I could see him in his room but was always refused.
In addition, the home fails the sniff test (wee) and is shabby.

Thank you for your review, I would like to highlight that your previous complaints have all been unsubstantiated via Social Services but also Safeguarding etc.
As a home our priority is the well-being of our service users, therefore we have not and will not force anyone to see any family members they decline to. We apologise you did not get to see your father after travelling but he has the right to refuse.
We apologise we served notice to terminate your father's placement due to extreme care needs, and we apologise we declined your request for admission of your mother a few months after your father's placement began with us.
You are related (or there about) to 2 staff members (we trust this is why you gave the staff 2 stars instead of 1).
Our Service users' quality assurance and visitor quality assurance are available to anyone who wishes to see a true reflection of our home, its smell and our food etc not to mention the numerous reviews here. Thank you.

My Uncle has been at Chrissian Residential Home for some time now. Originally he had a room upstairs, but now he is totally bedridden and has a shared room downstairs. He can be a difficult character if he is not in the right state of mind and all the carers at Chrissian are very good with him. As I
live 350 miles away I cannot visit too often, but the home always keeps me informed and since Covid I have been able to visit in safety.

Wonderful care home, staff are truly caring, everyone always smiling and happy. My room is lovely, the food is amazing. They take me to the cinema and shopping which I love. The entertainers are fantastic and staff sit with me to do crafts which I really enjoy.
The owners come in regularly which is
really nice, including Christmas day to give all the residents and staff presents! Manager is always helpful, chatty and happy.

My father was a resident at Chrissian Residential Home for a number of months until his illness progressed to the extent where nursing care was needed.
During his time at Chrissian he had enjoyed being looked after by the staff and they had coped admirably with his care needs. He had liked the food
and even gained a few pounds. He also enjoyed the activities which the home provided.
I found the staff, both office and care staff, to be friendly, happy and very caring and also approachable and well organised.
The home itself is a little shabby and some of the rooms on the small side but that is totally acceptable making it more homely and not like a hotel. The home is very clean and works very well in line with the Covid restrictions, providing LFT testing equipment.

The experience that I have now is different from the way it was before Covid, now I complete an LFT and wear all the protective items provided. I can visit my friend in his own room on my own which is very good for both of us. I have always found all the staff to be extremely caring and kind. I think
they are doing a marvellous job under difficult circumstances.

I did have an issue once with privacy on the phone in the living room with my uncle and an elderly lady sitting talking to herself. I feel the carer should have taken my uncle to his room as we were talking to his bank. I feel residents' seating in lounges could be spruced up a bit. Uncle says food
and care are good.

Reply from Feizal Molabaccus, Owner at Chrissian Residential Home

Thank you for your comments and feedback. I would like to remind you as per our conversation on the day in hand that your uncle has the choice to go to his bedroom, our office, the conservatory or any other private area of the home if he wished to do so. Your uncle refused and wanted to stay where he was which is his own right/choice. You asked us to remove all our other service users from the communal lounge, which was firmly declined.
We have already purchased/provided brand new wingback arm chairs to both lounges and bedrooms (less then 6 months ago), Covid visiting restrictions would not have let you see this as yet.
Regarding value for money - I would like to point out we are known for our costings - we are one of the lowest, if not the lowest charging care home across Suffolk, yet our feedback/reputation with care professionals, etc. is held with a very, very high regard.

Due to the pandemic, we have seen our brother-in-law on Zoom numerous times. Whilst he cannot communicate a lot he now smiles, looks happy and clean. You can see how well he is doing since he moved here. We are so happy and grateful.

My mum will have been in the home for the last 5 years in April. She suffers with Dementia and ongoing illness. All the staff and managers treat her with kindness, respect and dignity at all times. When myself or family members go we are treated with the same as my mum at all times. I have regular contact
over the phone with the home to give me updates on my mum due the lockdown - Covid situation. I could not ask for better care than what my mum is receiving at this time. I consider that she is well looked after at all times and could not ask for more.

My mother entered the home in September 2020 during the Covid pandemic. Despite the difficult circumstances she was made to feel very welcome and settled in quickly. Although relatives have not been able to visit residents inside the home during this period because of the pandemic, the team at Chrissian
Residential Home have done all they can to ensure residents can see and keep in contact with their loved ones. I look forward to having proper visits in the coming months.

My father has been a resident before the onset of the pandemic, and with the recent restrictions on visiting, I was confident that he would receive the care and support he needs. The care team have been excellent and have kept me informed of any concerns or changes. This has always felt a homely place,
and the staff treat the residents with respect.

Chrissian has been a lifesaver to my father and myself. They have been amazing through this whole pandemic, my father can be awkward sometimes but they have dealt with that with so much care. The staff are amazing, friendly and so caring. I am so relieved to know that he is so well cared for especially
in these covid times.

I am very pleased with all the care and friendship my mum received at Chrissian, especially in the last few weeks when she was treated with dignity during her final moments. My mum has been very happy at Chrissian and made new friends that became family to her. The staff are great.

This care home isn't just a clinical care home full of people doing a job, it is a home from home for the residents who have genuine caring professional people there who look after the residents as if they were their own family. You can see the bond between staff and residents that makes you feel at
ease that they are getting the best help possible.
They go so far beyond what would be expected of just a care home and the place has a warm vibe, they have regular activities and entertainment for the residents and if they don't want to take part, the staff always try to find something more to their liking. They take the time and effort to get to know the family and the resident and build a relationship with them, you cannot ask or expect more than you get from the staff here.

Our mum moved into Chrissians in Dec 2019. Our mum had dementia and needed 24-hour care. Our mum would have at least one of my 2 brothers, sister or myself visit her every day. We would call at variant times of the day and we were all made very welcome by the staff, nothing was ever too much trouble
irrespective of the time of day or how busy they were. All was well with her stay, the dementia probably progressed a little over the next few months but my mother was very happy and we were all very content with her care. Unfortunately in March 2020 after coronavirus hit the UK all care home residents across the UK had to be shielded. My mother with her dementia and at an age of 91 fell seriously ill in early April. The care home were brilliant (with lots of precautions) we were given complete access until our mum passed away. A massive thank you to all the genuinely loving, caring staff from all of my family. You will not find a better care home.

I have been living at Chrissian for several years. I honestly can not express how lovely it is. It's very homely, the staff and management- Everyone are so friendly and happy. The care I receive is - well perfect. The last few years have been so joyful, there isn't a day since I have lived here that
I have not laughed even on the days when I have been unwell. I loved the recent Xmas party especially when the staff were singing.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.564)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.564) out of 10 for Chrissian Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.664 for Chrissian Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (74 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.664

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chrissian Residential Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 22 registered maximum number of service users is 4.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
