Chrissian House was established in 1974 and is registered to care for 22 elderly residents. The name was formed from the previous owners two sons ‘Chris and Ian’. Converted from two detached houses, it stands in its own extensive grounds, with the garden area surrounded by flowers and mature trees.

In 1990 the home was extended via converting a detached house next to the main building (annexe). Both houses have their own kitchen, dining area and lounge with a conservatory where residents can participate in daytime activities such as table games and puzzles. The home offers a happy, warm, friendly family atmosphere and environment.

Chrissian Residential Home Ltd has been built and furnished to a high standard. The home is situated on one of the main roads leading to the eastern side of the town in a residential suburb. Local buses run every 20 minutes to the town centre, with hairdressers, a Spar shop and fruit and vegetable stores as well as many others in the vicinity of the home.

A Church Service is held at the home. All other denominations are encouraged to visit the home. If you require assistance to maintain contact with your desired faith/religious service, please discuss this with the manager. Holy Communion is held in the home the first Monday of the month.

Chrissian House provides residential care for both genders of any age.

The home's aim is to give the resident the opportunity to live as members of a local community in ways which are accepted as normal and valued, allowing for full use of a range of local facilities, for example: - shops, cafes and sports centres. Hopefully in time the residents will also become part of their local community. All staff recognise and promote residents' rights, privacy, dignity, care and respect.

There is CCTV in place for communal areas - this is for the safety of staff, service users and visitors, and they have a CCTV and SARS policy in place.

I cannot express exactly how much I appreciate all the love, care and attention that all the staff showed my Mum while at Chrissian. It has such a warm and lovely welcoming atmosphere. They are just one big happy family.

The home is excellent, everybody is friendly, staff, managers and other residents. I am very well looked after, the care is always exceptional. The food is fantastic. It is very cosy here, like living in my own house. Lots of activities, I very much enjoy the Elvis singer and the zoo. I have had a lovely
Xmas and even got presents from the home. It's really lovely here.

My mother lived at Chrissian from 2009 until her death in March 2017. She had been Matron in charge of nursing/care homes from 1946 until her retirement in the 80s, so had high expectations.
She was not disappointed and loved her life at Chrissian in all respects - particularly her accommodation
and the food. She found the staff to be kind, considerate and caring at all times. Staff knew residents well, were sensitive to their needs and treated them with respect.
They encouraged her and supported her in a range of activities and helped her to interact effectively with other residents.
When my mother needed to go to the hospital, the home assessed her situation promptly, accurately and responded appropriately.
As a visitor, I always felt welcome and was offered a hot drink - staff had time to speak to me about my mother - they seemed to genuinely care about the residents.
I am very happy that my mother spent her final years in such a happy and caring home.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.564)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.564) out of 10 for Chrissian Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.664 for Chrissian Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (74 Excellents x 5) + (30 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.664

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Chrissian Residential Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 22 registered maximum number of service users is 4.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
