I can not rate Garrett House highly enough. The management and staff provided the utmost professional care for my mother who suffered from Alzheimer's. She was comfortable, she felt safe and she enjoyed living here.
Mum particularly liked the live music entertainment that was a regular feature at
the home, and this gave her a lot of enjoyment.
We were pleased that Mum could stay at Garrett House when she was at end-of-life care, and she couldn't have been in a better place. The level of care, support and attention was beyond any expectations. What was particularly moving, was the staff popped in to see Mum and sit with her even beyond their end of shift. My sister and I stayed at the home with Mum to her passing and were looked after exceptionally well - nothing was too much bother for them.
The staff genuinely care for the residents and I would recommend Garrett House to anyone looking for a home for their loved ones.

Thank you so much for the kind words and we are so pleased that you received a positive experience at such a sad time. The Garrett House ethos of all residents being treated as family is an important part of recruitment and training and nothing is more gratifying than seeing proof that training has worked and that residents and family alike, are treated with the respect and compassion they rightly deserve.

Garrett House staff always maintain extremely high standards in all areas concerning residents and their families. During this testing time with the spread of the Coronavirus and the necessary no visiting policy, every effort has been made to involve the families by whatever means best suited to each
resident. This despite social media being alien to many. And regular newsletters have been issued explaining what measures have been taken to ensure that best practice is followed. Beyond that any queries or concerns have been dealt with speedily and helpfully. In my case, my mother couldn't understand my absence but with the support she needed and was given has been able to find peace of mind. With elderly loved ones it follows that many of us family members are no longer young and have had our own medical concerns to deal with. Knowing that our loved ones are being cared for so well is a comfort beyond words. Thank you everyone at Garrett House.

My mother is very content here. She enjoys the food, activities and environment and seems to have a good relationship with staff and carers. Many of the staff go over and above what might be expected to ensure the welfare of residents. I would have no hesitation in recommending Garrett House.

It's a very caring residential home, with high standards of staff available. Food seems to be of a high standard and the house itself is very grand and not at all typical of a care home. There is always a highly responsible person on reception from Monday to Friday who will always do their best to deal
with anything. The dining room is very grand as well. Have had to deal with conversations with the local GP practice and this has all gone very smoothly.

My mum went to Garrett House for two weeks in March and didn’t want to go home. The staff management and everyone had made her stay perfect. Not only did she feel secure, the staff were so friendly and she loved the entertainment and going to the activities twice a week. She had one or two health problems
and mobility was limited. She had Myeloma and the home offered palliative care, meaning she didn’t have to leave the home and could stay where she was safe and happy. My brother and I stayed with Mum until she passed away. The staff were so considerate to our feelings and Mum's right to the very end. I would recommend Garrett House to anyone looking for residential care.

Current Review Score: 8.1 (8.111)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.1 (8.111) out of 10 for Garrett House Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.1 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

The Average Rating of 5.000 for Garrett House Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.111 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Garrett House Residential Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 45 registered maximum number of service users is 9. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 9 = 0.111

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
