Harleston House offers a safe and friendly environment, which respects residents’ rights, dignity and privacy, and provides the maximum opportunity to exercise personal autonomy and choice.

Located in Lowestoft, Suffolk, Harleston House provides residential dementia care to older people.

The original house has been refurbished and extended to provide a specialist dementia care setting.

All staff receive training in all aspects of care.

Bedrooms are light and spacious with en-suite facilities. Residents are encouraged to bring in personal items and can enjoy safe and secure internal and external spaces, which are specially adapted to provide accessibility and stimulation.

The home's chefs cater for each and every resident's individual tastes.

All food is freshly prepared and residents can make requests and ideas. All special dietary requirements catered for.

Mum is new to Harleston House and we have all been made very welcoming during Mums settling in process. The home is very nice, well staffed and they are always on hand. Mum has been very well supported and is settling in well. It has been lovely to see her take part in some of the activities.

Harleston House staff are amazing. My mother settled fairly quickly; I didn't think she would. I can only praise the management and all staff for their empathy and willingness to help family and residents alike. They are a credit to your company.

My Nan has been a resident at Harleston House since July 2018. I cannot speak highly enough of the dignity, care and respect my Nan receives from all of the team there. Without a doubt, I would recommend this establishment to anyone I know.
I would like to also personally thank a member of staff for
his outstanding care recently when calling out paramedics for my Nan. His knowledge and expertise were clearly evident at such a difficult time.
Thank you to all the staff for taking such good care of my Nan, in my eyes, there is no other home that compares. It's of no surprise that this home has such a good reputation.

Since my mother has been a resident at Harleston House, it appears that every member of staff has the wellbeing of the elderly people at the core of their daily work. When Mother first entered Harleston House, it was traumatic for her as she was not understanding what and why was happening. However,
the care shown by the staff managed to settle her down and cater to her individual needs. Not only did the staff help Mother, but they also helped us, four children, as it was extremely upsetting for us to see our mother initially distressed and confused. Their comforting words and guidance helped us deal with this, and eight weeks later, Mother is settled and 'hunky-dory' (her words). We now know that our decision to place Mother in Harleston House was the best thing we could have done for her.
Harleston House places daily pictures and videos of activity and residents on Facebook, and we can see the enjoyment of our relative's faces and how they partake in activity at the home. This also helps us to be reassured.
When Mother has had a health issue, this was dealt with superbly by the staff and the ongoing monitoring and care is second to none.
We cannot wait for COVID restrictions to lift, so we can enter Harleston House and interact with everyone, dine and partake in activities. Harleston House allows us to visit Mother in the garden area and often allows us a lot more time than we have booked in for. Another sign of the caring nature of everyone at Harleston.
We thank everyone at Harleston House and feel you deserve you 'outstanding' CQC assessment.

My brother-in-law has been with Harleston House 20-months now and is having excellent care. He is always treated with respect and always included in the activities. The staff are excellent; nothing is too much trouble.

After deciding it was time my mum needed 24-hour care, it wasn't the best time due to covid19 and all the provisions which needed to be put into place to protect the residents, but all of the staff at Harleston House have done everything possible to make sure the transition was as smooth as possible
during these difficult times. It's difficult not being able to visit properly, particularly when it was a new environment for my mum, but I'm happy to say she appears to be settling in well. All the staff have been really kind, caring and understanding, not only to Mum but myself as well. I can tell she loves the activities, particularly the musical activities and the coordinator; the whole team do an amazing job. It's been a long time since I've seen her so happy, and for that, I thank everyone at Harleston House who has made that possible.

My wife has been in the care home for 2 and 1/2 years. We are obviously not at the home all the time, but our impression is that my wife is receiving excellent care. Until covid-19 stuck, I used to visit the home each evening and stay until my wife settled and fell asleep in her bed. The care I witnessed
reinforced my feelings that she was being well cared for. During the visits, the staff made me feel welcome; they were always forthcoming with information and gave up comprehensive and detailed answers to all my questions. For the two years of my daily visits, I was given a free rein of the social crews of the home. I often observed carers who were not aware of my presence attending to other patients. I never, at any time, gained the impression that those patients were being treated otherwise than with love, extreme patience and kindness. The people at the home have earned the excellent ticks.

Mum has been in Harleston House 6years+. It's been from the beginning the best, most caring place ever. She is loved, fed well, is warm and comfortable. I am informed at all times, about any concerns. Her activities are put on Facebook, especially welcomed as we are in covid lockdown. Covid19 has bought
out the best of all the staff; I can't thank them enough for their dedication, love and care. Understanding dementia and how cruel it is; is hard for us as a family. We know Mum has a new family now and I couldn't be more grateful to her friends (staff, residents) at Harleston House.

My mother has lived at Harleston House care home since May 2016. As her daughter, I can say, I have always experienced a very caring reception when visiting my mum. All carers are very professional and can combine warmth to each and every resident with their individual needs. All of our family are welcomed
to share in Mum's home, considering our understanding of our Mum's personality. Would say Mum has been helped to accept, and enjoy her later years in a way she wasn't doing before. I would say Harleston House is the best in our area. Standards are set very high in all areas, and the main consideration at all times are the residents. Care during covid - excellent.

Harleston House is an excellent place all staff across the board are excellent. The way they talk, assist and address the residents needs. They also make all visitors welcome nothing is too much trouble and it is like an extended family. Since moving Mum here about two months ago we have seen such a
change in her. Before she didn't interact with carers or other residents. Since being here she joins in with activities and chats to others. All staff have made such a difference to Mum's daily life. It has given us peace of mind knowing she is so well looked after from the person cleaning her room across the board to management. It is also nice that we can go anytime and are always welcome as it is open 24 hours.

We cannot say enough how fabulous the team are. From the moment we arrived to look round they were all friendly and caring. Mum moved in with the absolute minimum of fuss and as a family, we’ve not looked back. She wasn’t doing well in her last home but the team at Harleston have turned her life around.
She is downstairs every day always clean and really well dressed and cared for.
Mum isn’t the easiest person to integrate but they’ve managed to get her to participate in activities which up until now, has been unheard of.
The care they have for every resident is evident and we can’t thank them enough for making mums move so easy and stress-free.

The staff all seem to care and do their utmost to make it enjoyable for the residents. The food seems very good and plentiful (if they are hungry) and there is always biscuits, cakes and drinks for them and visitors.
Their clothes seem to be quite well looked after, especially as lots of them seem
to be spilling stuff.

My wife has been in this home for over two years. I can say that she has improved by the care and attention the first class staff have given, nothing is too much trouble for them. I would pick out for special praise the manager, the male activities coordinator who keeps them all entertained.

My mother was resident here for 9 and a half years. She sadly passed away on 4th July 2018. During the time of my Mother's stay, I can honestly say that she was accorded great compassion and care. When we attended her funeral, which left from the home, we were offered all the help imaginable, tea and
biscuits on arrival, sandwiches and drinks after the funeral. This is to me what a caring home is all about. The management and staff have, and still are, brilliant.

Having had a long conversation with my sister's doctor, she needed more care as her dementia had affected her whole being and she had deteriorated. The staff have been trained at Harleston House for dementia and this is so apparent in their approach and attitude towards my sister. They treat her with
respect and dignity, the activities that Harleston house put on are exceptional. She is safe and cared for. We are able to pop in and visit on a regular basis and the staff are chatty, and have got to know us on a personal level. They treat her as an individual.

What can I say regarding Harleston House? The best decision we could of made. From the first day my mum came to Harleston House, she has felt safe, well cared for and always happy. The care the team give is excellent, activities outstanding. She is always clean and smiling. I can not fault the outstanding
care all staff give and knowing this allows me to sleep in my bed at night. Thank you to the staff.

In February 2017 my husband spent two weeks respite at Harleston House and settled very well.
I knew immediately that when he finally needed specialist full-time care, this is where I would want him to be. Liaison between management, staff and the resident's relative is excellent. I cannot praise
Harleston House enough and would recommend it to anyone needing dementia care.

Hello, I’m Susan Graham I am the manager of Harleston House. I pride myself on leading a care team providing a very high quality of care for residents. My team and I encourage residents to maintain the lifestyles they are used to whilst maintaining a safe environment for them to live. My personal philosophy here is 'I don’t come here to work, I come and live around the residents offering them companionship, support and encouragement in all aspects of their lives.'
I involve residents as much as they wish in making decisions in all areas of their home. My passion, drive and commitment to Harleston is well supported by all my team, residents and relatives involved with Harleston House. My door is always open and myself, deputy and team always have time to listen
