Harleston House offers a safe and friendly environment, which respects residents’ rights, dignity and privacy, and provides the maximum opportunity to exercise personal autonomy and choice.

Located in Lowestoft, Suffolk, Harleston House provides residential dementia care to older people.

The original house has been refurbished and extended to provide a specialist dementia care setting.

All staff receive training in all aspects of care.

Bedrooms are light and spacious with en-suite facilities. Residents are encouraged to bring in personal items and can enjoy safe and secure internal and external spaces, which are specially adapted to provide accessibility and stimulation.

The home's chefs cater for each and every resident's individual tastes.

All food is freshly prepared and residents can make requests and ideas. All special dietary requirements catered for.

My mother feels that she is being genuinely cared for, rather than being 'in care'. All the staff, housekeeping, catering, personal care and management demonstrate a positive 'client focus' which enables my mother to maintain her individual personality and sense of independence regardless of her increasing
physical frailty and cognitive decline.

Mum has now been a resident of Harleston House for over two years. She has good and bad days in herself, however the staff handle her very well. She is always well presented, clean and cheerful. The room is well maintained, bright and fresh. She enjoys the activities which are provided and gives them
all a chance to participate in a memory jogging experience. Highly recommended.

I have been going to this place for nearly five years. I trust all the staff as they are friendly to me and my wife and the other patients. I am slightly disabled myself and I am treated more or less as a patient.

When Dad needed to be cared for outside his home we were naturally concerned about the quality of care we would find. After visiting several homes, we found Harleston House, and three years on, we have not looked back. The staff are kind and caring, keep us up to date with anything concerning Dad's
health and welfare. They are quick to respond to medical needs, and ensure he is comfortable. The home itself is clean, smells fresh and is bright, light and comfortable. The team constantly tries out new ideas to improve the lives of the residents and the visits from their families, for example the 'Olde Worlde' tea room. Since the arrival of the new activities team, we cannot speak highly enough of the entertainment and activities on offer to the residents. Hardly a day seems to go by without us seeing lovely photographs of the residents engaged in fun, be it watching local children dancing, joining in a singing competition, or dancing the night away at the Christmas Party.
Dad is provided with a wide variety of home cooked foods, which always look appetising, and adjustments made to his care are made as his individual needs develop. He seems very very settled and happy in his own way, and we couldn't be more satisfied. Thank you so much.

When hearing a Christmas party had been arranged by a local hotel for the residents of Harleston House I wondered how successful it would be. However 36 residents were transported to the venue where they were entertained by a live band including singers, and fed a lovely buffet, their faces were a
picture as even if they weren't able to join in the dancing, they enjoyed watching those that could. The carers were on constant watch to make sure everyone was happy. A minibus was there to return anybody who became tired before the time arranged to leave it was incredible I was really impressed.

My mother has dementia and Alzheimer's and when she entered home was in a very anxious, confused and stressed state. Harleston House staff understood her condition and settled her into the home within just days. The transformation in my mothers happiness and confidence was enormous and she is now content,
happy, confident, chatty and feels valued and has a really good quality of life. The home organises many activities both in and outside the home, which keeps residents occupied, feeling valued and happy. It is the best home I could have wished my mum to be in.

After having inspected several care homes in this area we were recommended to Harleston House. The brochure seemed quite impressive and upon inspection we were delighted with what we saw. The building was in excellent condition in pleasant surroundings and entry area welcoming yet secure. Interior was
spacious and well equipped with comfortable furniture and bedrooms en suite and spotless. Above all we experienced very fresh and sweet air everywhere! The staff have always been helpful and caring in everyway. Daily menus are provided in the dining room for each table and the food is very good. Visitors are always welcomed and refreshments offered. Regular activities are organised for the patients. Top class!

My mother became a resident at Harleston House in November 2007 due to her mobility and onset of dementia, her care was impeccable. She was treated with dignity and love right up until she passed away at the home in March 2013. My father became unable to remain in his home in March 2011 after a series
of mini strokes and joined my mother at Harleston House where he still lives. I cannot thank the staff enough for the care and love they have both received while living there. The staff have become good friends and i can have peace of mind 24/7.

Hello, I’m Susan Graham I am the manager of Harleston House. I pride myself on leading a care team providing a very high quality of care for residents. My team and I encourage residents to maintain the lifestyles they are used to whilst maintaining a safe environment for them to live. My personal philosophy here is 'I don’t come here to work, I come and live around the residents offering them companionship, support and encouragement in all aspects of their lives.'
I involve residents as much as they wish in making decisions in all areas of their home. My passion, drive and commitment to Harleston is well supported by all my team, residents and relatives involved with Harleston House. My door is always open and myself, deputy and team always have time to listen
