St Josephs, in Sudbury, is a caring home supporting up to 60 older people to live a comfortable lifestyle, as well as offering care for those living with dementia. It is located in an idyllic croft setting in the village of Sudbury.

The home continues to welcome new residents for a range of residential care services, including convalescence care, respite care, trial stays and long term care for those who can no longer look after themselves.

St Joseph's care team gets to know customers and works with them to organise wellness activities that match individual and group interests, both in the care home as well as in the local community. Each customer’s individual needs are regularly assessed to ensure their care plans meet their lifestyle requirements.

Meals are cooked fresh, using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients where possible, by highly trained chefs and kitchen staff.

When we had to make the difficult decision to pass Mum's care into the hands of the professionals there was only place we ever considered and that was St Joseph's. We had heard so many good things about the staff and their compassionate care. We were not disappointed, from the day Mum entered the home
we knew she was safe and in good hands. However the staff didn't just take care of mum they took care of us as a family too. Nothing was too much trouble for them and we will be forever grateful to them for their compassionate care especially as Mum came to the end of her life. Simply put the staff just couldn't do enough for us. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who finds themselves no longer able to care for their loved ones at home. Thank you will never be enough!

I am my wife's carer and was looking for a care home to provide some respite. From beginning to end of her short stay at St Joseph's she was treated like a permanent resident with respect and care beyond my expectations. The staff are lovely and smile through every situation and really I wonder how
they do it.
As a family, we are now looking to place my wife within a care home permanently and will not look further than St Joseph's.

My mother was a resident in St Joseph's for nearly four years until her death in December 2024. I cannot say strongly enough how amazing they were in handling her care and her well being. She was not the easiest of people to deal with but everything that was done for her was done with a smile on the
carers faces. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The staff's kindness in Mum's last few days was so touching. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending St Joseph's.

My mum is currently residing at St Joseph's and I wanted to say how amazing they are. One of the carers took my mum to the zoo last week which she thoroughly enjoyed and then danced to theatre music when she returned. That particular carer is so kind and the staff there are all so nice.

We chose St Joseph's for my Dad because it was recommended to us and I'll pass that recommendation on. 'If you can get your relative into St Joe's don't bother looking anywhere else'. You will not find a better home. The warmth, care, understanding and kindness they give, to the whole family, is amazing
and one that we feel privileged to have been part of. St Joe's is like a family and we feel lucky to be part of that family. It has had such a positive impact on us as a family and we will be forever thankful to them all.

My father has just finished his 3rd stay at St Joseph's for dementia respite care. I cannot praise all the staff enough. The first time Dad was visited at home for the initial assessment and for his subsequent stays we felt like we were being welcomed as old friends. Not only has Dad had excellent care
but the staff, both admissions and carers, were so kind and supportive to us the family during what is such a difficult time. As Dad's condition has deteriorated they really understood how hard it is for all members of the family. The food was excellent and his room was always clean. I cannot recommend St Joseph's highly enough to anyone looking for respite or permanent care.

This is the second time this year that my husband has stayed at St Joseph's for two weeks of dementia respite care. It can be quite stressful, as you have no idea how they will get on, but I needn't have worried so much as due to the kindness of the staff he settled in well and was happy to go back
for a second stay. The staff welcomed him warmly and made him feel at home. It is, in my view, the kindness, friendliness and helpfulness of the staff that makes all the difference at St Joseph's and you can't put a price on that. I would have no hesitation in recommending St Joseph. And he loved the food as well!

My mother was in St Joseph's for 10 days of respite care. I was impressed from the start when 2 members of staff came to my home to meet Mum & obviously ask relevant questions. Mum was made very welcome & enjoyed her stay. She said all the staff were very attentive & friendly. She enjoyed the meals
& general ambience. She may have to stay on a future date & I have no hesitation for her to go & neither does she.

During this past year, it had become increasingly evident that my mother was in need of full-time residential care and required a suitable placement in the locality. St. Joseph's came highly recommended by a neighbour and I am very pleased to have secured a place for her. She has been a resident of
St. Joseph's for the past four months and I am really happy to say that she is being cared for extremely well and quickly settled in. This view is endorsed by my mother who cannot praise the staff enough for the way she is being looked after.
The home is bright and airy and in very good decorative order with a pleasant feeling of warmth about the place upon entering. All of the staff that I have come across during visits, whether care staff or administrative have been pleasant to engage with and display what appears to be genuine contentment with their work. Their interactions with residents and high level of care are clear to see and from a relative's perspective very reassuring.

My father entered St Joseph's for respite care in December 2023 following a two-month stay in hospital. From the very outset, the staff and care provided to him have been outstanding. The management team facilitated his transfer directly from the hospital to the home just a few days before Christmas.
His room and the shared facilities are wonderfully clean and the food is excellent. I cannot praise the carers and management team enough for their kindness and care shown to my father, who has strengthened greatly and improved so much in health because of the support and care received. The home is so welcoming also to visitors at all times and we have enjoyed a lovely Christmas and Easter Day lunch together with him in a private setting. My mother has also been into the home for respite care to enable me to take a holiday and was also so well looked after. I highly recommend St Joseph's to all who may be seeking a first-class, caring facility for a relative.

My aunt has been in St Joseph’s for almost 3 months, and I cannot praise all the staff enough. Although she was very apprehensive about leaving her home, she has settled in very well and made friends with other residents. She now participates in many of the organized activities. This has been possible
because of the caring and helpful nature of the staff. She is no longer lonely, is safe, and is being well looked after.

Just three weeks ago my 100 year old mother was moved to St Joseph's to convalesce after breaking her wrist. She arrived at 24 hours notice, but was immediately made to feel welcome and was put into a comfortable room. Both management and staff could not have been kinder or more helpful. I particularly
appreciated the relaxed and friendly attitude to visitors which enabled me to call in and see my mother whenever I wanted to. I have also been able to join my mother for meals in the dining room without any fuss at all, and the food was excellent. In addition, the staff were also very efficient and when I needed to collect my mother for an early hospital visit, they made sure she was dressed and ready on time. I should add, that I have been repeatedly struck by the warmth and kindness of everyone at St Josephs and would recommend it highly to anyone looking for a happy and well-run establishment for the twilight years of their near and dear.

Mum (ninety-three) had a very restful and enjoyable stay. Food, staff and carers were very supportive and caring. The only thing we found was the room was not ready when Mum arrived and the lift broke down halfway through the stay. The staff were very good and were able to move Mum to a lower floor.

St Joseph’s in Sudbury has been very caring and mindful of my mother with her worsening dementia. The caretaker, cleaners, caregivers and management team always receive my communications and face-to-face requests promptly and in a friendly manner. My mum has already been out on a local trip as well
as a walk to feed the ducks; all within three weeks of living there. Everyone involved with my mum’s care seems to be very patient and shows her nothing but warmth and smiles which is absolutely what she needs. The food is wonderful and the staff take care to ensure all the residents are eating. When I was there visiting this week, I sat with my mum and the staff noticed one resident had fallen asleep at the table. They gently woke her and fed her. So lovely to see such caring people working there. I would definitely recommend this care home to anyone who is concerned about moving their loved one into such an establishment. I can now return to quality time visiting my mum. I can’t fault it.

Mum needed respite care following three falls at home and wasn’t feeling great. The staff at St Joseph’s were welcoming, friendly, caring and helpful. My 93 year old mum likened it to having a stay in Buckingham Palace! She was hugely impressed by the choice and quality of all of the meals that she
had whilst in their care. She came home feeling much better and certainly stronger due to the attention that she received there.
The only advice I would give to anyone that has a loved one needing a stay is to make sure that any possessions, especially items of clothing, are clearly labelled. I was very impressed with the standard of cleanliness and the attentive staff. I would have no concerns or worries with St Joseph’s Care Home and wouldn’t hesitate to send Mum there again if the need arose.

Although it was a hard decision, my mum chose to go to St Joseph's for end-of-life care because they were so wonderful in caring for my dad, who sadly passed away there 6 months earlier. He suffered from Alzheimer's and was with them for 18 months.
All the team there, without exception, the managers,
nurses and care workers, the chefs, and cleaning staff, everyone were so professional, kind, and knowledgeable and took every opportunity to ensure my mum was safe and comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble.
It has been such a comfort to know that both my mum and dad received the best possible care and were treated with dignity, respect and such kindness. Thank you.

It's always going to be a difficult decision to place someone you love in a care home. The St Joseph's Care Home staff have made the whole process of transitioning so easy and stress free. Communication with the administration team is second to none. It is such a relief. My father-in-law is so brilliantly
looked after, he's safe, secure, loved and cared for and after every visit we feel so happy saying goodbye knowing this. The staff are worth their weight in gold and so friendly and welcoming to us as well. They asked us lots of questions about him so they knew what he liked and didn't like to make his stay that much easier and happier. It was his birthday today, he had a birthday sash with his walker decorated, the entertainer was there too and everyone was singing Happy Birthday to him with a cake too. It was such a special day thanks to all at St Joseph's. I couldn't recommend the home enough. Thank you all!

My mum lived in St Joseph’s for nearly five years. During that time, she had care that was so much better than we expected. She retained her autonomy, which was incredibly important to her. The staff respected her wishes always, even if all Mum wanted was a lay-in! Unfortunately, she spent time in hospital
recently, and while she was there, she virtually ‘shut down’, not eating or drinking, definitely not recovering the way we needed her to. Once she was put on end-of-life care, she came home to St Joseph’s, where the staff, without exception, pulled out all the stops to welcome her home and encourage her to try a ‘tiny bit of this jelly/squash/cup of tea etc. They tried so hard to bring her back to us. I walked into her room the morning after she got back to find a member of staff sitting on the bed with Mum, showing Mum her photos, and Mum was smiling! Mum died later that day amongst those who loved her and who she loved. The last day of her life was happy - totally priceless.

The home exudes a warm, friendly, engaging atmosphere. It is clean, well decorated with a lovely garden. The staff are first class. They are caring and committed. Nothing is too much trouble.
