St Josephs, in Sudbury, is a caring home supporting up to 60 older people to live a comfortable lifestyle, as well as offering care for those living with dementia. It is located in an idyllic croft setting in the village of Sudbury.

The home continues to welcome new residents for a range of residential care services, including convalescence care, respite care, trial stays and long term care for those who can no longer look after themselves.

St Joseph's care team gets to know customers and works with them to organise wellness activities that match individual and group interests, both in the care home as well as in the local community. Each customer’s individual needs are regularly assessed to ensure their care plans meet their lifestyle requirements.

Meals are cooked fresh, using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients where possible, by highly trained chefs and kitchen staff.

My mum has been a resident for nearly five years, and she loves living there. They cannot do enough for her. When you ask anything, they are happy to help, and nothing to is much trouble. My mum even gave a speech she wrote herself thanking all the staff who worked there (which they videoed).
I know
it's been very hard on the residents and families during the pandemic, but the staff went out of their way to keep us in some form of contact with our family members. I would highly recommend this carehome; it's in a lovely location with lovely staff who are caring and supportive.

I am very happy with the care and attention my parents receive at St Joseph’s. My mother is in the dementia unit, and my father is in the residential side. However, the staff fully understand the importance of my parents’ well-being and make sure they spend time together daily. My parents are calm and
seem settled, and the interaction between them and the staff is lovely to see.
During the restrictions of the pandemic, the staff made sure my mother, in particular, was comforted if she became anxious and found activities to occupy her.
The overall atmosphere at St Joseph’s is friendly and supportive.

Having taken the difficult decision in January to look for residential care for my mother, who has Alzheimer's, I am very pleased that the family chose St Joseph's. The home is in a lovely situation by the river and meadows yet close to the town facilities. The rooms are well furnished and decorated,
warm and homely. All the staff are well trained, very caring and attentive and have a good knowledge of all the residents, their needs and abilities. They show respect and provide dignified individual care, and with the level of attentiveness, are quickly able to identify any problems, which are dealt with promptly and appropriately. There is a good choice of freshly cooked food and drink. She makes good use of the on-site hair salon and chiropody. I am the eldest of five children, and I have received the same very positive feedback from my siblings when they visit. Mum settled in very well and is very happy, despite the difficulties with her health, and really enjoys the company and activities.

St Joseph's is a really super residential home for my 89-year-old mother. All the staff are so kind and friendly and have a really good can-do attitude. The rooms are all comfortable, and the communal areas are clean and well kept. Pre-pandemic, there was always lots of activities arranged for the residents,
and even now, when life is more restricted, there is a great deal of creativity around entertainment including activities such as flower arranging, quizzes and exercise classes. The senior leaders are always accessible and will do their very best to accommodate any request. All the staff make a huge effort to make Christmas a fun time for all and many residents opt to stay in the home rather than go out to family! That says alot! A great sense of family and great team spirit pervades throughout.

During the lockdown, all staff have been so loving and respectful to our mum. As visits have been allowed, the staff have facilitated safe, friendly visits and have been so helpful when it is clearly causing them more work. They look after her so well, including a beautiful cake for her birthday.

My husband was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2000, and I always knew that care would be inevitable, but I wasn’t looking forward to the thought of him going into a care home. St Joseph’s was recommended to me, and when my daughter and I paid a preliminary visit, we were very impressed by the cleanliness,
the location and particularly liked the spaciousness of the communal areas. My husband moved into St Joseph’s in May 2019, and from the moment he arrived, he felt at home there. Pre-Covid, there were never any restrictions on visiting times, and we were always made to feel very welcome and part of the family. Sadly, he died in October 2020 during the pandemic, but despite that, the staff respected his wishes not to go into hospital and cared for him at St Joseph’s to the end. I can absolutely recommend St Joseph’s as a residential care home – and have done several times.

Admitting my close friend, who has dementia to St Josephs during Covid has been very challenging on the emotions. The worst part is not having ever been inside the building other than to the visitor's room, thus it is very hard to comment on many of the categories, as I have no first-hand knowledge,
so have just marked as satisfactory for the time being, but look forward to a time when I will be able to do so.


In the interim, however, everybody at St Josephs has been so understanding and are wonderfully helpful, to both myself and in the care that they give. Their job is tough at the best of times, but right now it must be as heartbreaking for them as for the relatives and friends of the residents. They work tirelessly to facilitate communication, are always cheerful, and most importantly, always listen and take action to deal with my worries. I very much look forward to the day when I can give them all a hug just to say thank you.

My mother was a resident in St Joseph's for over seven years until her death in March 2020. She had had dementia for about eight years prior to that, and my father placed her there when he could no longer cope. Her condition steadily deteriorated during her stay, and in her last years, she had lost
virtually all speech and mobility. Throughout her time there, the staff and environment were never less than superb, always showing great love and compassion, and treating residents with respect and care. That level of humanity was also extended to visiting family members, who were always welcomed, and was kept informed by telephone of any concerns, mishaps, doctor's visits etc. My father also became a resident, in the non-dementia area, for the last two years of his life. Once again, his stay at St Joseph's was excellent and made his final years comfortable and enjoyable. In both their cases the palliative care in their final days was wonderful and demonstrated great knowledge and experience.

My mum has been a resident in the dementia wing at St Joe's since 2016.
I cannot speak highly enough about the incredible personal care that Mum receives from all staff there. There really is an amazing team feel throughout, with happy, chatty staff that are welcoming on every visit. We have had fantastic
communication throughout lockdown with texts and video calls with Mum.
Both my father and sister have had and passed away from dementia. I can categorically say that St Josephs is the best home in the area with outstanding care throughout.

The team at St Joseph’s have yet again surpassed their own incredibly high standards to be prepared, forward-thinking and ahead of the game during these difficult times. The staff are quite simply outstanding and their care and devotion to residents is second to none. We have been able to use technology
to still see my mother-in-law and they communicate clearly with us at all times about their strategy to protect. There is no shortage of PPE thanks to forward planning. The home is quite simply outstanding. Well done to the manager and your fantastic team.

My father lived at St Joseph's from March 2017 until he passed away on 1st April 2018 aged 98. He was very independent and staff treated him with great courtesy and respect. There is a real family atmosphere where all the staff work as a team under the manager's guidance. I cannot praise highly enough
the kind, caring and cheerful staff. My father had many visitors and everyone commented on the friendly and courteous staff, whatever their role.
Most of all, we will never ever forget how lovingly he was cared for during the last few months of his life when his health was failing and he knew he would not get better. They respected his wishes when he'd had enough and did all they could to make his final days as comfortable as possible. They gave our family great support and kindness during this very sad time.
To my Dad, St Josephs quickly became home, not a Home and is an example of how residential care should be.
