Mellish House is located in the village of Great Cornard, near Sudbury, close to the town's shops and cafes. Providing residential dementia care for up to 48 elderly residents including trial stays, respite breaks and convalescent care as well as long term care.

The home has a light, airy and welcoming ambience and residents benefit from a broad and thoroughly enjoyable range of activities. Many bedrooms feature a memory box by the front door, where mementos from a resident’s life help to personalise their room and also remind staff and visitors of the individual’s life story.

Mellish House is part of Caring Homes, an established, family-run care company. Every team member receives their unique ‘Living in My World’ dementia training which is accredited by City and Guilds. The care and dedication that the staff provide I cannot fault. Whenever a doctor needed to attend, I was always advised and also of her care plan. I couldn't have asked for a better place for her to be, especially during the lockdowns, the management ensuring patients were kept safe was commendable,
and thank you all for your service and care. Without you, their quality of life could be so different.

After finally finding Mellish care home online, we were really impressed with the initial contact and advice.
Went to see the deputy manager at the home and had a great discussion with her. Went back to my parents and arranged for my dad to stay at the home the following day. He stayed for 3 weeks.
The care was brilliant and the staff were amazing.

Dad is in caring hands at Mellish House. Staff are friendly and welcoming and trained well to cater for individual needs. I am always kept informed and updated when appropriate. I feel comforted to know that as I cannot personally care for his many needs any longer, he is in a place where his needs
are addressed and constantly reviewed so his well being is fully supported.

My mother is 'cared for'. I am greatly reassured that Mum takes part in a range of fun activities (see the home's website photos). I am always informed of any falls that Mum has had and at such times the staff excel in their duty of care. With ambulance shortages, neither a doctor or nurse available
a member of staff drove my mother to A&E. She will have been comforted by their calm, reassuring ways. New furniture has been thoughtfully placed in the main living room, everywhere feels calm and gentle. The staff work as a team, it's evident in so many ways.

I was very nervous on my visit as my mother had been there 4 months without any contact because of COVID. I did not know what to expect as I had not seen the home before. Was pleased to see a lovely clean and warm place, a nice room and, most of all, my mother is happy to be there. So far, all staff
I have met have been very polite, friendly and doing a wonderful job. As my mother is happy and content, I am very happy.

Visited my aunt who was very poorly. We booked in and arrived 30 minutes before to do a COVID lateral flow test, then waited 30 minutes for the results. We were then PPE'd up and able to sit at her bedside. I am pleased to say that my aunt has improved since this visit.

The staff are amazing, the care that is given is 100%. In lockdown, Mellish House worked to a high standard and was amazing not to have any COVID cases. The care that is given is second to none. My dad is happy and is well looked after.

Mum has been at Mellish for 2 1/2 years now. Her Alzheimer's is progressing and I can't thank Mellish and the staff for their care and compassion. COVID-19 has made life even tougher for all but I have had regular calls with Mellish who have kept me in the loop. Socially distancing visits are allowed
and they have been well managed.

1. My husband thinks of Mellish as his home now and feels cared for and secure.
2. I am kept informed when visiting or by phone of anything concerning my husband and I get informed answers to my enquiries.
3. In 3 1/2 years my husband had 2 cataract operations, dental and chiropractic treatments
involving external appointments. Transport superbly dealt with and my husband kept calm and at ease in trying situations.
4. The firm but caring and gentle way staff treat other residents is impressive.
5. Escorted walks outside the home have been arranged where possible and of great benefit and pleasure for my husband.

My lovely dad had to be admitted just before Christmas 2019 during a very traumatic time for the family. His vascular dementia and Alzheimer's together with being registered blind meant he was frightened, angry, confused and disorientated. The staff at Mellish House handled the transition with care,
respect, insight and patience. 5 months on he is settled and 'at home'. The home meets his needs and allows me to have peace of mind knowing he is stimulated, clean, well-fed and treated as an individual.

My mother has been a resident at Mellish House for several years, during this time there have been several issues, mainly regarding room security that have caused concern. Several items have gone missing including an expensive hearing aid. Also, the tv remote has gone missing several times and once
I arrived to find it in pieces, so had to repair it, probably due to other residents entering mums room without permission. This resulted in us having to purchase a door gate (as Mellish promised to but failed to source one) and get that installed. We also had to buy mum a tv as they wouldn't provide one... Another time someone damaged the aerial cable we had supplied and took weeks to get this sorted. There is a general penny-pinching vibe with the place and though staff are mostly great, this mars the experience. Currently also having problems with talking to our mum in lockdown as wi-fi signal upstairs is poor so the Ipad they use can't maintain the signal, which is very annoying when you just want to chat to your parent!

The nursing staff are very kind and she participates in so many wonderful activities and Mellish House has become home.

Job Title: Home Manager

As Home Manager of Mellish House, I lead a professional care team in delivering the highest standards of specialist care for up to 48 elderly people living with dementia.


I have over 23 years of experience across Adult Mental Health, Elderly Mental Health and Adult Social Care services, spending the last 14 years in management roles. I hold SVQ’s in Adult Health and Social Care Levels 3 & 4 and QCF Level 5.


As a people person, caring has always been a passion of mine. This is the aspect that makes my job worthwhile, making a positive impact on our residents and their families lives no matter how big or small, in what has become their home and supporting them to continue a good quality of life.


I continuously work to improve and maintain the care standards at Mellish House and have in the past help to raise thousands of pounds to purchase items that have had a positive impact on those I support, including a wheelchair power pack for someone to get out and about, an electronic massage bed to help with MS symptoms and a wardrobe full of clothes for someone who lost all their belongings in a house fire. It’s these personal touches that can make all the difference.


The local community is very important to Mellish House, I have worked hard to build a good reputation to make Mellish a home of choice, this includes an ‘Oustanding’ rating by CQC and a continuous care team who help deliver an excellent standards of care to our residents.


Away from work, I enjoy reading and spending time with my family and dog. I also love music and socialising with friends.
