Mellish House is located in the village of Great Cornard, near Sudbury, close to the town's shops and cafes. Providing residential dementia care for up to 48 elderly residents including trial stays, respite breaks and convalescent care as well as long term care.

The home has a light, airy and welcoming ambience and residents benefit from a broad and thoroughly enjoyable range of activities. Many bedrooms feature a memory box by the front door, where mementos from a resident’s life help to personalise their room and also remind staff and visitors of the individual’s life story.

Mellish House is part of Caring Homes, an established, family-run care company. Every team member receives their unique ‘Living in My World’ dementia training which is accredited by City and Guilds. It highlights the importance of meaningful activities and a stimulating environment for people living with dementia, as well as addressing clinical aspects of care.

Mum was transferred to Mellish from another home due to dementia. The little time she was there, she was treated with dignity and respect even when she would get angry.
I was kept well informed of mum's behaviour and care and felt involved with her care. Sadly mum deteriorated very quickly. On my visit
that morning, when mum was having fits, I was given excellent support from staff at a very harrowing time. A member of staff escorted mum and I in the ambulance to hosptial. The staff member was a great support during this time getting my mum to hosptial and staying with me whilst doctors, worked on mum. I am so grateful to her and staff.

In the last few months, my wife has been very ill on a number of occasions. The prompt actions of staff probably saved my wife's life on at least 2 occasions. The feedback concerning my wife's condition has been excellent and I have no qualms about recommending Mellish House as a brilliant care home.
Definitely top league in what they do.

From day one my family were welcomed and the staff were so friendly. Although mum has complex needs and can sometimes be difficult, all the staff are incredibly patient and persuasive. I am confident that she is in good hands and as a family, we can relax in the knowledge she is in the best place.

I found the staff very helpful and welcoming, creating a very good atmosphere. They are obviously very caring. Although my daughter is unable to take part in the activities she is included and given much stimulation and is part of the everyday life of the unit.

I find all the care, management staff and domestic staff to be very good, approachable and helpful at all times. I couldn't wish for my husband to be in any other care home. The food has improved but still, has some things to improve on e.g burgers often hard and some casserole dishes (meat tough) food
apart all else is excellent

I have been very pleased with the care my mother has received at Mellish House throughout her stay so far. The staff have mainly been helpful. The manager has been fabulous and very considerate at times when I've been upset due to my mother's condition. Plus very professional at the same time. She has
also represented my mother in meetings with outside agencies extremely well. More attention could be paid to the laundry. When the clothes are returned to the room they are often inside out and hung up in a strange fashion. Once an item was still damp!

I have been extremely impressed with the level of care that Mellish House provides. In my view, the care and support they provide is second to none and it is noticeable how much my mother has improved since arriving earlier this year. The staff are totally focused on the residents and their well-being
and the whole ethos is about providing the right level of care. Mellish House is like all care homes in many respects but if your primary focus is the well- being of a loved one; that they are safe, healthy, comfortable, respected, settled and nurtured; you will struggle to find a better place than this. Putting my mother in a home was the most difficult decision my family have had to make, Mellish House has not only made that decision easier but has proved that we absolutely made the right decision for my mother.

My husband was a resident in Mellish House for 4 years and 7 months. He suffered from Lewy Body Dementia. He died on 25th June 2016. He was well cared; the carers were attentive and took particular care to make him comfortable and pain free at the end of his life. I made good friends among the carers
and staff. The care home had a family atmosphere. Great enthusiasm and energy went into the provision of activities and festivities and new ideas for entertainment.

Job Title: Home Manager

As Home Manager of Mellish House, I lead a professional care team in delivering the highest standards of specialist care for up to 48 elderly people living with dementia.


I have over 23 years of experience across Adult Mental Health, Elderly Mental Health and Adult Social Care services, spending the last 14 years in management roles. I hold SVQ’s in Adult Health and Social Care Levels 3 & 4 and QCF Level 5.


As a people person, caring has always been a passion of mine. This is the aspect that makes my job worthwhile, making a positive impact on our residents and their families lives no matter how big or small, in what has become their home and supporting them to continue a good quality of life.


I continuously work to improve and maintain the care standards at Mellish House and have in the past help to raise thousands of pounds to purchase items that have had a positive impact on those I support, including a wheelchair power pack for someone to get out and about, an electronic massage bed to help with MS symptoms and a wardrobe full of clothes for someone who lost all their belongings in a house fire. It’s these personal touches that can make all the difference.


The local community is very important to Mellish House, I have worked hard to build a good reputation to make Mellish a home of choice, this includes an ‘Oustanding’ rating by CQC and a continuous care team who help deliver an excellent standards of care to our residents.


Away from work, I enjoy reading and spending time with my family and dog. I also love music and socialising with friends.
