Montana Care Home is a residential and nursing home with strong values, allowing residents to choose their own way of life and personalised support.

They provide person centred care based on respect for human dignity and the personal development of each individual to promote a secure and loving family atmosphere and care for people, regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, religious persuasion or belief, cultural or linguistic background, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability. They offer long-term care but can accommodate short-term care (including respite) when there is availability.

The Home is set in a traditional single-storey house, now extended to provide spacious accommodation in the very heart of rural Suffolk near the culturally historical town of Bury St Edmunds. They have accommodation for 19 people (16 rooms - 3 of them can be used as double rooms with en-suite facilities) and provide residential care of the very highest quality to older people (male and female) who are in need of care through frailty, disability or choice.

Friends and family visit at their convenience and are able to spend as much time with their relatives as they wish.

    The Home charges the current rate of fees paid by the relevant placing social/ health services. For more details about fees and the methods for paying them, please see our separate Terms and Conditions of Residency (and Financial Agreement for Self-Funders).
    Residents contributions to fees (or the full amount for some who self-fund) are usually collected by four weekly standing order. The fees are reviewed each year and usually change (subject to government guidance) each April.

    Most people are eligible for financial assistance with their fees. This can be explained in detail by the relevant Social/ Health Services Department, but typically consists of a payment from Social Services
    according to their assessments of their needs, with the remainder paid by you from your benefits or from your family
    Other people have more than the “minimum level of savings” (set each year by the government) which leads to them having to pay the full care home fee (they become “self-funding”). For these people the NHS help by making a small contribution to fees.
    Should your circumstances change, and you can no longer meet the full level of fees, Social Services will be contacted to assess your needs which usually culminates in them paying a finite amount, the outstanding balance being met by your family.

I've visited Montana often over the last few years. The food is fantastic, can't fault the effort the cook goes to. The care and helpfulness were outstanding, the sisters could not be more kind, caring, and compassionate with the residents. Sister Superior and Manager is second to none on leadership
for sisters and staff.

I stayed for 5 nights while visiting my aunt. I was very pleased with the home. Food is excellent as is the standard of care. My aunt is very happy here. The nuns are warm-hearted and kind.

Montana Care Home is a very special home. Residents are treated with great dignity by the patient and caring Benedictine sisters.
Nothing is too much trouble for the manager and staff who create a lovely and lively community atmosphere. Rooms are clean comfortable and well-equipped. Meals are nutritious
and residents have a daily menu with requests and special diets catered for.
With the help of staff and volunteers, there are plenty of activities and outings for the residents to enjoy. For example local trips to the abbey gardens and further afield to the coast. Montana gardens are well stocked and residents are able to sit outside in nice weather or walk around the grounds.

Montana Care Home has in my view always been an excellent facility. I had the pleasure of working there back in 1990, and the care and compassion of the sisters were second to none. My dear friend now resides there, and she is happy, content and well cared for. She has actually improved mentally, as
she has made friends and is less insolated, also she is physically fitter as she has good regular food. All round stimulation. I have recommended Montana to several people over the years and they have all been very happy living there.

I enjoy conversations with the residents, staff and sisters. General conversations involve daily experiences and sometimes tea parties, and occasional get-togethers with music.
There was a day recently with dancing and music. They have visits from musicians from outside coming to entertain and make
for a very happy occasion.

Our excellent care home manager organised a seaside trip to Felixstowe. The day dawned sunny and 5 residents, 3 sisters and 2 friends of the home had a very enjoyable day. We had strawberries and fruit juice on the coach and a lovely fish and chip lunch after a walk on the promenade, watching the sisters
paddle. After lunch, we went to the pier and had an ice cream whilst watching children in the sea. The manager is a true disciple - nothing is too much trouble and her door is always open. She has purchased a tablet and a sister and some residents play word games in the sitting room.

This facility is first class, very clean, cheerful, caring, safe and friendly. The manager runs a very efficient, caring and tight ship. The residents are happy and often chatty. The facility is situated in a pretty, pastoral and peaceful setting, and sports an 800-year-old oak tree. I have been a few
times to visit my friend's mum and am always impressed by the facility.

I feel very safe and secure at Montana and find the care and hospitality of the manager and her staff excellent. I am very privileged to attend daily mass which I consider fulfils my spiritual needs. The food and laundry services are excellent. My needs are cared for twenty-four hours a day.

I have been connected with Montana Care Home for many years, initially as a visitor and volunteer but now as an Independent Living Tenant.
The care home is highly respected in the local community and is operated by a community of dedicated nuns with locally sourced helpers.
The nun’s are invariably
qualified nurses and able to deal with most circumstances that may arise.
Montana Care Home is set in pleasant grounds and gardens which are appreciated by residents, visitors and relatives alike.
The Chapel caters for the spiritual needs with Mass celebrated most days of the week. I would thoroughly recommend the Montana Care Home to anyone who is looking to rehome an elderly relative in need of constant care.

I have known the Sisters of Grace and Compassion for many years and thought highly of them - and I have been visiting and talking and reading to three of the residents for some time - I feel we are good friends. The Sisters and staff are very responsive to their needs, and aware of them as individuals

Montana Care Home warmly welcomes guests and the Sisters show genuine care towards residents. My Grandma is well cared for and has developed a trusting, supportive relationship in just 6 weeks. Her room offers a pleasant view of the gardens, and she enjoys attending mass and the sing-alongs. The staff's
prompt response to calls and texts day or night provides great comfort knowing my Grandma is well looked after.

I previously asked why Auntie was kept in a bed and not moved into a comfy chair. The doctor's review explained that Auntie would be likely to fall out of the chair when left unattended, so the question was answered - Auntie stays in bed for her own safety.

Dad was extremely well cared for. Montana has a welcoming atmosphere, all the staff are very friendly. Over the weeks of Dad's physical decline he was treated with enormous compassion and the support that my sister and I received at the end was comforting and wonderful.
