Montana Care Home is a residential and nursing home with strong values, allowing residents to choose their own way of life and personalised support.

They provide person centred care based on respect for human dignity and the personal development of each individual to promote a secure and loving family atmosphere and care for people, regardless of their age, gender, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, religious persuasion or belief, cultural or linguistic background, marital status, sexual orientation, or disability. They offer long-term care but can accommodate short-term care (including respite) when there is availability.

The Home is set in a traditional single-storey house, now extended to provide spacious accommodation in the very heart of rural Suffolk near the culturally historical town of Bury St Edmunds. They have accommodation for 19 people (16 rooms - 3 of them can be used as double rooms with en-suite facilities) and provide residential care of the very highest quality to older people (male and female) who are in need of care through frailty, disability or choice.

Friends and family visit at their convenience and are able to spend as much time with their relatives as they wish.

    The Home charges the current rate of fees paid by the relevant placing social/ health services. For more details about fees and the methods for paying them, please see our separate Terms and Conditions of Residency (and Financial Agreement for Self-Funders).
    Residents contributions to fees (or the full amount for some who self-fund) are usually collected by four weekly standing order. The fees are reviewed each year and usually change (subject to government guidance) each April.

    Most people are eligible for financial assistance with their fees. This can be explained in detail by the relevant Social/ Health Services Department, but typically consists of a payment from Social Services
    according to their assessments of their needs, with the remainder paid by you from your benefits or from your family
    Other people have more than the “minimum level of savings” (set each year by the government) which leads to them having to pay the full care home fee (they become “self-funding”). For these people the NHS help by making a small contribution to fees.
    Should your circumstances change, and you can no longer meet the full level of fees, Social Services will be contacted to assess your needs which usually culminates in them paying a finite amount, the outstanding balance being met by your family.

Montana feels like a community and not just a business.
The atmosphere is calm and welcoming. All residents appear well presented and one sees them being treated with kindness and courtesy.
Staff and sisters always greet you warmly. Visiting is a pleasant experience and the facilities comfortable.

Montana is a wonderful community in which the Benedictine Sisters provide care because of who they are rather than what they do. This, combined, with the relatively small number of residents, gives a feeling that is more like a large family. I have reviewed the Care, Treated with Dignity and Staff as
Excellent below - if there were another category - "Unbelievably excellent" - then I would certainly have picked this.

My father has been resident at Montana for 4 years, having previously recuperated there following an operation.
Whilst a resident, we as a family have been delighted with the level of care, compassion, patience and attention that he has received from the nuns and all other members of staff. During
periods of ill-health, he has been cared for exceptionally and the family have been kept well informed at all stages.


Recently, he found difficulty using his shower cubicle and had a larger cubicle installed to ensure that he could safely, and comfortably maintain as much independence and privacy as possible.
During the year Sr and staff organise outings and activities to provide entertainment and to ensure contact with life outside the home.
Family members are welcomed always, as members of an extended family.

Our now 97-year-old mother had a stroke earlier in the year whilst still living alone and after a 2-month spell in hospitals, transferred to Montana Care Home Grace and Compassion Benedictines to be close to family. What a find by my brother!


The care home is relatively small and provides a very

personalised service for our mother. The staff could not be friendlier or more accommodating of her and the family's needs. We feel very happy to have found and secured a place here for our mother and are absolutely confident that she is receiving the best possible care from an environment dedicated to helping others.

My mother was very happy to choose Montana as her care residence when she became unable to care for herself. From the very beginning, the high standard of care and attention to detail was obvious. Her deteriorating health gave the dedicated staff extra challenges which were gladly met and often surpassed.
Despite being bed bound, the sisters and care staff are constantly checking on her well being and including her in various activities and visiting entertainers etc. A regime of thorough documentation and an ongoing personal care in all areas are all provided with a friendly smile.
My previous job took me to several care and nursing homes and I can say that Montana ranks as the best in my opinion in both staffing and atmosphere.

My mother is 91 and has been confined to bed for nearly 2 years. The staff take it in turns to sit and talk with her, just this week they arranged for one of the entertainment group to visit her room and sing for her, she enjoyed it so much that she even sang along with him. The head sister made a video
of the event and showed it to me and my brother, such kindness forethought and attention to care is typical of the very high standard of care in the home. Tomorrow she will be visited by a lady and her four-legged doggy friend, a regular event she always looks forward to. A lady member of staff has been reading a story to my mother in the evenings and this seems to be keeping her mind alert and content as she has very poor eyesight and watching TV is a strain.

On entering the home a warm greeting by staff.
It was obvious from the start that all the staff were dedicated carers with years of experience.
Staff respected your privacy and dignity.
The food consisted of a well thought out nutritional menu, freshly cooked and well presented, served on hot plates
when appropriate - in fact, all tastes were catered for.
Medication was efficiently dealt with.
The room I am in overlooks a well-tended garden - fittings etc very adequate and of good quality.
The atmosphere in the home is tranquil and nothing is too much trouble if one requires help.
How lucky I was in finding this 'GEM'.

Montana is a unique care home. We were very lucky that it is so close to us but it would be worth travelling many miles, it is the BEST. The staff are special, they are like Angels. Happy, smiling and totally committed to their work. You could not ask for better care. We are grateful for the service
which was beyond the call of duty. It is a SAFE and LOVING home. The palliative care was excellent.

The accommodation was excellent, ensuite, and the staff (religious sisters and lay people) were most helpful and kind. The food was of very good quality, well cooked and plentiful - with two hot meals in the day. That it was all on the ground floor was, I am sure, very good for those who have difficulty
managing stairs. There is seating outside the building as well.
