I was in Whitehaven care home for 4 weeks recuperating from a hip replacement. I was looked after very well. The staff were excellent, friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. I could recommend this home to anyone needing dedicated care.

The staff at Whitehaven went above and beyond for my relative. He was only there for a short time before he passed away, they looked after him with dignity and respect, also cared for me while I sat with him as he passed. I recommend this care home highly.

My partner and I visited our friend on the 21st of May 2024. She is very happy and content in the home. She told us she feels safe and secure. The staff and management provide excellent personal care and support. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff are friendly, courteous and welcoming.
I would not hesitate to place a relative in this excellent caring facility. Thank you all for looking after our dear friend.

Very friendly home. All residents are well cared for and look clean and tidy. Home well cleaned. Did a party for my mother-in-law's birthday and certainly went that extra mile to accommodate all the family. Lovely staff who work hard. The home always smells clean unlike some. Plenty of fruit and chocolate
etc around for residents to eat when wanted. A lovely-tasting birthday cake was made by the cook too. Well done Whitehaven in Westfield, Radstock.

My aunt was placed in this home initially for respite but ended up staying for 10 months. The more mature, experienced staff were very good and helpful. The younger staff were frequently found using their mobiles when they were on duty. Auntie's room was not cleaned regularly and little effort was made
to encourage her to make healthy decisions about her care. Staff attitudes left a lot to be desired and the day-to-day running of the home was terrible.

Our experience of Whitehaven Care Home has been nothing but positive. The clue to why it is good is the longevity of staff there. The kitchen is on view to the residents who are well fed and looked after throughout the day with refreshments and cakes etc. There is no smell in the common areas which
is remarkable given the home concentrates on dementia etc. Our experience was relatively short, but over those months, we witnessed only care and attention to minor details. This comes from the top. The manager is always on hand and will help where required and not hide away in their office. If you look at the whiteboard in the office, it is clearly laid out with risk management tasks and when they should be done, an exemplar. There is no problem with tailoring the rooms to the residents' personal needs and nothing seems to be a fuss. Visitors are greeted with an offer of refreshment and a chair is provided if required. All in all, we were impressed.

As always, the manager and all the other staff are full of love and kindness that fills the nursing home. I'm sure they put love before money. I have peace of mind knowing my partner is in their care and at all times the home is clean. The food is 10/10. Well done and from all the family, thank you.

We have been happy with the level of care Mum is receiving. Our visits are not very often but the staff always seem helpful. Cannot comment on the food or drink as we have not been here during meal times. We were concerned about the smell on Mum's floor and know it is difficult but perhaps the carpets/floors
need disinfecting more often.

My mum was a resident at Whitehaven for over 8 years. I can honestly say mum was very well looked after here. She was very happy and loved the staff, the garden, the many parties, activities, and trips out. During the Covid lockdown, everything was done to keep the residents safe. It wasn't easy, but
the staff were amazing.

As a family, we would highly recommend Whitehaven Care Home. The manager and staff are all completely dedicated to the residents and treat them as their own family. During these strange times, it is reassuring to know they are kept safe and happy. When I visit, she always tells me how kind the staff
are and how she enjoys having a laugh with them. It truly is a home from home for them.

In the short time that my mother was in your care, she was treated with dignity, respect and was made to feel at home. As a visitor, on every occasion, we felt that our mother was happy and well taken care of, whilst the staff were also very receptive towards us and made us feel welcome and part of
the team.

My mum was recently admitted to Whitehaven following three weeks of respite care at the home.
I cannot believe the difference in my dear old mum since coming to the home.
She had been independent for years but found this increasingly difficult and had taken to her bed eating very little and deteriorating.
Thanks to the amazing staff at the care home, the change in Mum is quite incredible.
She is extremely happy, eating lovely food and looking like her old self.
Thanks, everyone at Whitehaven from the bottom of my heart.

Reply from Callum Pearce, Manager at Whitehaven Care Home

She has a brilliant character which always brings a smile to the team's faces. We are so happy she is here and the joy she brings us. I will share your positive comments with the team. Take care.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.946)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.946) out of 10 for Whitehaven Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.346 for Whitehaven Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (51 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (7 Satisfactorys x 3) + (5 Poors x 2) + (2 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 81 Ratings = 4.346

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Whitehaven Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 23 registered maximum number of service users is 4.6, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
