My wife moved into the care home in December 2018 after being diagnosed with dementia in 2014. We chose Gorselands after a detailed investigation of other homes in the area. It is a beautiful, Victorian house, in a quiet residential area surrounded with a large, well-kept garden which is available to
the residents and is provided with garden furniture. I am able to visit my wife daily. She occupies a single room with ensuite which is cleaned daily, is decorated to a good standard, with all the safety requirements. None of those smells throughout the home often associated with care homes. The care home is beautifully decorated throughout. The staff, across the board, are cheerful and kind, professional in creating a homely atmosphere. Management is always available for advice. My wife has settled into her new life and is happy. This has removed a great worry I had as to her well being in the future.

Gorselands is a beautifully presented, very well run, family owned care home. The residents are surrounded by affection and genuine warmth, several members of staff have worked there for 30 years, which in itself speaks volumes. The food is prepared from fresh, the activities are varied and the garden
is immaculate and very accessible. I feel my Mum is in the best place she could possibly be.

The home is in a large house in a pleasant, leafy road. Although there has to be some security the atmosphere is most pleasant, welcoming in fact. A caring approach is evident from the top down i.e., in the concern for the residents shown by the owners, the manager and all the staff whatever their role.
The staff, with the immediate task of seeing to the individual welfare of the residents (entirely women), are always on hand, alert and concerned. Visitors are made welcome, the resident's individual accommodation is of a high standard, spotlessly clean and well maintained. The food is excellent. There are various activities within the home and trips outside from time to time. The home's excellent reputation is certainly well deserved.

My Aunt has been in Gorselands for nearly four years. It is a wonderful place and they really look after their residents. They get them involved in lots of different activities from cooking to flower arranging and doing a sitting down version of keep fit. All the staff are excellent and really go out
of their way to make the residents as comfortable and happy as they can. They also look after the visitors with a cup of tea at hand as soon as you arrive. I have visited this home on all different days and times and have only ever seen positive interactions between staff and residents. I cannot recommend this care home highly enough, and would not hesitate to move there myself, if ever needed.

Mum initially went to Gorselands for respite as myself and my sister had been looking after her 24/7 as she suffers from dementia and can't be left alone.
From the first time we visited we saw it was a homely place with friendly and caring staff.
Mum's room is lovely and clean and the whole home is
clean and well maintained.
Her clothes are washed and ironed well so she always looks clean and tidy.
There is plenty of stimulation for the residents with entertainment especially involving music, games and crafts where they can join in if they want or a quieter room if not.
The home is always welcoming, we are always offered tea or coffee and biscuits on arrival.
Mum is now permanent as she has started to settle in well.

My mum moved to Gorselands in September 2017. My sister and I visit most days at various times of the day and all the staff are always welcoming and caring. Before her move, mum was often worried and frightened even until we were with her 24/7. Now it is such a relief to know that she's being cared
for day and night by an experienced team of lovely people and the time we have with her can be "quality time". Her ensuite ground floor room is perfect - always clean and she settled in well. She's encouraged to join in with the variety of group and one to one activities, music and sing-songs and even during the winter, has been able to potter in the secure, level, well-kept garden as she loves to do. There is always a calm and friendly atmosphere. Thank you Gorselands.

It is difficult for me to comment accurately on activities/facilities as my mother refused to join in with what was offered. I could see other residents taking part, however. The staff were fantastic, caring and patient and I cannot thank them enough.

Thank you Penny for your lovely review.
I agree it was a great shame your mother refused to join in with our many activities that are available every day, but there were days she would wholeheartedly join in the singing and it was lovely to see her do this although as you say very rarely. It would have been wonderful to see her partake in our latest acquisition The Tovertavel (magic table) as the interactive games breakthrough apathy by stimulating both physical and cognitive activity and encouraging social interaction.
Moreover, this creates treasured moments with family members and carers.

The games are all about enjoyment and wonder, it has been an amazing activities tool for us to work with hopefully enhancing the lives of all the clients who will partake. The staff love nothing more than seeing the smiles on faces when they are using this great fun activity.
But your mother was a great character and amazing storyteller and that in itself made caring for her very memorable. Thank you again Penny for entrusting her into our care here at Gorselands.
All the best

My mum arrived at Gorselands in Feb 2017 and passed away on the 3rd August 2017. We visited around 10 care homes before making a choice for Gorselands.
The home is amazing, very clean and well decorated with lovely gardens.
The overall quality of food, attention to detail from the owners and staff
are excellent.
Overall the owners and staff treat patients in the way they would treat their own.

Very good care. Staff helpful and efficient.
All rooms and public areas are spotless. My mum is always clean and tidy. Hair and nails are done on request.
The meals are cooked to a good standard and tea and biscuits are provided to visitors as soon as they arrive. The gardens are lovely and security
for the residents is excellent. Key code on the main gate.
The residents are encouraged to join in activities e.g. Indoor skittles, lower arranging, singing and recently making Easter Bonnets.

My mother, aged 90, suffers from dementia. She was living at home (with care) but became increasingly more frightened, confused and depressed. After four months in Gorselands, she is a different woman. She is happy, enjoys her days and has regained her sense of humour. This is all due to the atmosphere
and the staff at Gorselands.

I love Gorselands. Mum has been here over three years and the care they provide is exemplary. We feel very comfortable if we need to speak to the staff. They are friendly, attentive and caring.
They organise lots of activities for the clients if they want to part-take and also trips out on the mini-bus.
As a relative and visitor, I feel welcome and quite at home myself. Mum is extremely happy here.

It was hard to accept that mum needed to go into care. Thankfully, we found the wonderful Gorselands. The owners take great pride in their home, are often present and always available for relatives. We always felt welcome and confident mum was having the best of care. A stable and long serving staff
means the atmosphere is like a family home. The Manager is outstanding. Her thoughtfulness and care go beyond the call of duty. Staff engage well with residents, provide excellent care and ensure each resident retains as much dignity as possible. They work hard to create a happy atmosphere. Décor and grounds are beautiful; hygiene and food are excellent and individual tastes catered for. Residents enjoy weekly activities, trips and entertainment. The team strive to enable residents to stay until the end of life and mum was able to pass away peacefully in her lovely room with me by her side. Our enduring memory is of the love and support given to mum and us for the last two years of her life.

My sister-in-law has been a resident in Gorselands for 2 and a half years. My two sons and I visited a great many homes in the region before selecting Gorselands as the cleanest, most stimulating, and the friendliest of them all.
The staff are always pleasant and attentive. One of the things which
I thought quite remarkable, was the good humour of staff - no loud voices - lots of touching and reassuring. If my sister-in-law becomes ill, I have been contacted at home, and a doctor has been called.

The assessment process and transition of my dad from my home to Gorselands was very thorough, and done with lots of reassurance. The home and gardens are beautiful and staff are friendly and very caring. Dad now has a much more meaningful existence than I could provide. Many activities and entertainment
throughout the week. He settled quickly and remains happy since he moved in last December.

My mother has been a resident in Gorselands for four months, she settled in well and on my last visit referred to Gorselands as "my lovely home". I have seen nothing but kindness and efficiency from the caring staff. They have also always made me feel welcome on my visits. There is a good range of activities
and trips which mum enjoys taking part in. Something is organised for most days. Mum particularly enjoys the lovely gardens and the ability to walk around them and sit out in them.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.769)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.769) out of 10 for Gorselands Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.969 for Gorselands Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (93 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 96 Ratings = 4.969

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Gorselands Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
