I was concerned about my 95-year-old father having to go into a care home after a previous experience with my mum. Dad loved it there. He didn't want to come home. All the staff and management were amazing. It is hard work and they do a great job. All other residents were lovely and happy, their food
is excellent and I was welcome there and able to visit most times. I am so grateful my dad's last few days there were happy.

Reply from Swapna Chamathakundil, Provider at Neva Manor Care Home

The staff were excellent with the care they gave to my sister and her husband. I couldn't have asked for more. They had to move from here as they needed more care for their health.

From the first moment here, I felt safe and welcome. The staff are amazing so kind and considerate. I was helpless as a baby but I soon found that with their help I could begin to look after myself. It has been a long time, I have been here for 10 weeks. My diabetic control has been wonderful. I have
learnt so much about diabetes all because of the careful care they have given me. It has not been a hardship to be here, being well fed and yes, loved. Almost home from home.

I am really pleased with the care my parents received at Neva Manor. I live in York, and it is such a relief to know that they are so well cared for in the home. I have regular contact with my parents and the care home. The staff in the home are really friendly and caring, and my parents are really
happy and settled at Neva Manor. I could not be more happy with the care my parents receive. I would happily recommend Neva Manor as a family orientated, friendly and very caring care home.

My brother has lived at Neva Manor for 5 years and received extremely good care. He had downs syndrome and could not speak. The staff were kind and caring, understanding my brother and meeting all his needs. They were able to communicate with him and knew his likes and dislikes. They took him out to
the seafront and helped him to enjoy each day and gave him a good quality of life. They respected our wishes and my brothers. Caring for him right up to his death in his own bed in his familiar surroundings.

It is never an easy decision to move an elderly parent, no longer able to look after themselves, into a care home. Will they accept it? Will they be well cared for? Will they feel disowned by the family? In the case of my mum, all of these concerns were easily overcome by the high standard of care of
the Neva Manor staff, and Mum settled in there surprisingly easily.

Caring for sufferers from dementia is obviously a very difficult and demanding job, requiring the right kind of people with plenty of patience and tact. The staff at Neva Manor support not only the resident, but the family too, and have made it clear that, even though Mum has now passed away, we will still always be welcome to visit when we can. We were more than happy to welcome some of the staff who showed the genuineness of their care by making the time to attend Mum's funeral service last week. Neva Manor is not just a "business", it is a care home, and both of those words are very apt.

My Mother has been resident for nearly a year at Neva Manor together with my Father until he recently passed away. I cannot thank the Management and Staff of Neva Manor enough for the way they have looked after my parents and especially my Father in the last months of his life. Everyone at Neva Manor
did all they could to make my Father's last months of his life comfortable and happy, and most of all ensured that my parents spent this precious time together.

The standard of care at Neva Manor is extremely high but above all residents are made to feel that Neva Manor is their home. Staff are kind, friendly and caring in a relaxed atmosphere making residents feel that they are part of a family.

My mother spent the last 5 1/2 years living at Neva Manor, after a period of another 18 months using them for respite care.
I cannot praise the owner and her team highly enough. The love and care from everyone exudes throughout the building and when it is my turn I can think of no place I would rather
go.
Highly recommend.

The double room was pleasant and bright with en-suite toilet and wash basin but lacked bath or shower. The bath was in the bathroom a few steps away across a short landing. The staff were wonderful, all of them were friendly, happy in their own work and keen to please. Nothing was too much trouble for
the staff and they paid attention to every detail.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.111)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.111) out of 10 for Neva Manor Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.611 for Neva Manor Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (54 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.611

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Neva Manor Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 14 registered maximum number of service users is 2.8, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
