Somerset House is a Grade II listed Georgian Farm House set in pretty walled gardens.

The aim is to enable older people to lead complete and fulfilling lives, by assisting with everyday challenges whilst giving as much independence as possible and maintaining dignity in old age. Everything is done towards developing the very best support and environment for residents.

As a small care home, Somerset House is able to retain its intimate homely feel with cosy lounges, and attentive staff who are really able to deal with the needs of individual residents.

The home has a delightful bright garden room overlooking the home's courtyard garden with raised beds and seating areas.

There is never a dull moment at Somerset House as they provide a varied and extensive activities programme run by the full-time activities coordinator.

I moved here in October 2015. Since then, I have settled in and have no complaints. the home is clean and warm. Food is good.
Most afternoons (and some mornings) there are various activities to cater for all the interests.
Staff are on hand and respect your privacy. There have been recent building
improvements (new rooms and bedrooms) and other rooms being improved (decorating) on an ongoing basis.
Due to numbers of residents, it provides a more homely feel.

See below tick boxes all excellent. However, improvements could be:
Food - More choice and more fresh produce.
Safety - All very safe, just a point to watch anything that could cause someone to fall over i.e frames left by other residents to be put away.

I went into Somerset House after a week in hospital. The members of staff were very kind and considerate. The house was warm, I had a very comfortable en-suite room and the meals are excellent. I enjoyed The Flexisize seated exercises in the mornings and the activities in the afternoon, craft, music,
games etc. I felt a lot of thought had been put into providing variety. I also appreciated the communion service on a Wednesday afternoon. Entertainment and party were provided on several evenings around Christmas time. Visitors were always welcome, including dogs and everyone was allowed to do their own thing within reason. I would be more than happy to go in again if the situation arose in the future, and would recommend it to anyone needing one.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.525) out of 10 for Somerset House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.5 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Somerset House is calculated as follows: ( (24 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.525 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Somerset House is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 5 = 0.4

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
