My brother has been a resident for many years. He is not just a resident, he is part of the Breage House family.
I find the care for him to be exceptional; the staff are outstanding, and the management is a testament to the longevity of how long the staff have been working there.
This isn't just a
care home, this is his home.

Breage House is a wonderfully happy place to be. The staff are super cheerful and always happy to help. My daughter absolutely loves living there and has grown in confidence since last September when she took up residence.

Our daughter has been a resident at Breage House since it opened and over the time to date, it's gone from strength to strength with many changes of both staff and management and currently, it's in its best place ever. Great attention to detail in residents' health and well-being, It has an open-door
policy for visiting at any time without prior contact. Residents are invited to attend various activities outside of the home for entertainment and social events at their discretion and the residents' relatives and carers are kept fully informed regarding any changes that affect the residents who are fully supported at all times.

My sister has been a resident for many years. She has complex needs and depends on the wonderful team at Breage House for all her care needs which are given with dignity and respect in a safe environment. The team are in regular contact to make sure my sister's best interest is at heart, nothing is
too much trouble. We, as a family, can visit, many times unannounced and welcomed into their home. We are encouraged to be involved which makes us feel we are all one big extended family. The team are dedicated, caring and extremely professional. We really appreciate and value their commitment. Thank you.

My daughter had to move from her other placement because of their change in circumstances which was a difficult period for us and our family, as she had been there for at least sixteen years. I am very pleased with my daughter's placement and she has received very good care as she suffers from epilepsy
and has lots of physical and mental needs. I feel that she is happy at Breage House and has settled in very well with the help and support of all staff. I am in regular contact with my daughter and the staff have always made me feel very welcome any time, making the visits so pleasurable. The manager is so approachable and caring, I couldn't ask for anything else. Breage House is so clean and my daughter's room always looks nice.
Thank you to everyone for all your help and support for myself and my daughter.

A very well-run care home with a wonderful manager and staff. The standard of care is first-class. Residents appear to be treated with love and understanding and I'm happy to feel my brother is in such good hands. The staff need to be valued and I am aware that poor pay has led to difficulty in retaining
and attracting staff... a situation that is nationwide apparently.
The facilities are good but why aren't the gardens better used? Because the only work done is cutting grass!
If Swallowcourt employ a gardener, maybe they could encourage tidying up and planting some flowers for colour and scent, especially near the lounge in spring and summer! The wonderful gazebo is rather wasted as there needs to be suitable access for wheelchairs... maybe an oversight? I'm sure that these improvements would be appreciated by the staff as well as the residents!

My brother has been a resident for many years. Pre pandemic, he was regularly taken out for meals and music events. Recently the home laid on a great little birthday party in the garden, that we were able to attend. The current manager is very good, friendly, professional, proactive and caring. As are
the staff. We appreciate the ‘family’ atmosphere there so much, especially as we all live in other parts of the country.

My brother received excellent, considerate care during his 2-3 year stay at Breage House. The staff were tolerant and were able to diffuse difficult situations during his time there as my brother was not always easy to deal with. Breage House has a homely and caring atmosphere and we were made very
welcome despite visiting unannounced on most occasions, the residents appeared to be treated as part of an extended family. During the period prior to his demise, we were kept informed and consulted about the management of his health care issues at all times

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.557)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.557) out of 10 for Breage House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.957 for Breage House is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 69 Ratings = 4.957

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Breage House is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 16 registered maximum number of service users is 3.2, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Registered Manager

Most of my life I have gravitated towards individuals with Learning Disabilities, From a young age I was encouraged to support and help others by my parents and I’m passionate about the people we work with. They always amaze me with their ability to deal with the most difficult things in life and still have a smile for those who support them. I started working at Breage House when it first opened in October 2007, During my time with Swallowcourt I have worked in several of the Learning Disability settings, gaining knowledge and experiences along the way. I returned to Breage House in October 2017 as Deputy Manager, I had forgotten how much I loved working at Breage. In February 2018 I became Registered Manager. Now I get to share my passion with the rest of the team.
