St Clair House is a privately owned residential care home for elderly people over 65.

The home offers both residential care and more specialist dementia care services. St Clair also offers day care services including meals and therapy sessions.

St Clair has been established for more than 30 years and has a great long standing local reputation. Positioned in the heart of the old mining town of Camborne, St Clair is very much part of the local community with most staff living close by.

St Clair is a beautiful old, grade II listed, Georgian house which has been tastefully extended over the years. There is a large, established and well-maintained garden to the rear and a large car park. St Clair is fully equipped to meet all the needs of your loved ones. The home has a lounge, a sun lounge and a dining room. It is registered for 25 residents with 22 rooms, 3 of which are doubles. There is a lift and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the building.

The team are very aware of the difficulties of caring for loved ones when they become unable to look after themselves. They offer all forms of care with trained and qualified staff to meet the needs of residents.

Team members respect residents’ privacy, freedom, social, cultural and religious beliefs as much as they can whilst also providing a high standard of care for their physical, medical and emotional needs.

Mum is a new resident at St Clairs and she has been made very welcome. The care she is receiving is excellent and the staff are very attentive, always making sure mum's needs are met. Everyone is very friendly and when I visit I'm made to feel welcome too. I no longer need to worry about mum as I know
she is being looked after at the highest level.

Reply from Adele Beaton, Area Manager at St Clair House

I am delighted with the care provided at St Clair House. From the moment I contacted them with regard to a vacancy, to moving in every stage was completed with compassion, sensitivity and professionalism. I cannot thank the staff at St Clair enough for taking such care of my father. The management are
very responsive to emails and work well with external agencies to make sure my father has all his care needs met. He has a lovely light airy room which is clean and tidy. He is very pleased with the choice of food available which is prepared by the homes own chef. His medication is well controlled and monitored. He has enjoyed the company of other residents and has also commented how well all the other care staff have interacted with him. As I live far away from St Clair I cannot visit very often but the management are great and if I ever have a worry or concern I just need to ring or email and they are happy to help. Lovely home, great staff.

We had a lovely evening with Dad at the fireworks night. 5 family members and Dad, it felt like old times. The staff here are so kind and nothing is too much trouble. Now Dad is in St Clair House I feel like we've won the lottery. St Clair's is the best by far. 20/10.

My mother has been in this home for 18 months and has been extremely well looked after throughout. The home is always clean and tidy. The staff are polite, friendly and caring. The management have been so helpful and professional. Special mention to the deputy manager who could not have been more helpful
throughout all this time. Mum is happy and that is a huge relief. Thank you all.

My mum moved into St Clair House a couple of weeks ago following a period of time in hospital. She has settled in really well. I have been very impressed with the staff team - they are welcoming, helpful and extremely kind. The manager and deputy manager are very knowledgeable and have guided me through
the whole process of the move. The progress my mum has made in her health since moving into St Clair has been a delight to see. The regular activities organised within the home give opportunities for the residents to meet each other and provide vital stimulation. I live far away and cannot visit as often as I would like but have peace of mind that my mum is in safe hands.

My dear friend moved to St Clair House at the beginning of November 2023.
I have been so impressed with the care and respect that they have shown her in coping with her numerous care needs but also some complicated personal circumstances.
I have been impressed with how the manager has circumnavigated
these issues on my friend's behalf and been so supportive of me and the family in this matter.
I would recommend St Clair House.

Dad has been a resident for some time now, and we have always been happy with his support. The staff are always very helpful and welcoming, and the manager is very approachable. Dad can be quite difficult at times as he has dementia, but the staff coped very well, and as a family, we are very appreciative
of this.

Want to say a big thank you to all staff at St Clair for their attention to Dad. He is the happiest I have seen him for a while and loves being in the home. Praises the food and staff to anyone he talks to when we go out or any visitors.

Our mother lived at St Clair House for just five weeks. Initially admitted for three weeks of respite care, a rapid decline in our mother's health meant she couldn't go home. Crucially, she was very happy to stay at St Clair House.
We congratulate the manager and her deputy on the calibre of their
team of carers. The care and compassion shown to our mother were outstanding, and we are so grateful.

The carers are always lovely and polite, especially one in particular that always greets us at the door. The bedroom facilities are not good - the mattress is too small for the bed frame and the toilet roll hanging from the commode on string. Glass on stained glass windows missing. But my gran is more
comfortable which is the main thing. The food always looks lovely, tidy and clean home. Parking at the front. Decor is a bit dated. But the main thing is my gran is getting good care at a high standard.

Thank you for leaving a review. I am delighted to hear that you are happy with the care provided, however, I am sorry to hear that you are not happy with elements of the room. The manager had not been made aware of your concerns until now. Please know that the manager's door is always open if you have any questions or concerns in future and she will make contact with you to discuss this in more detail. I believe there is a hospital bed in the room which has been set up in the correct way and the commode came into the home with the resident this way. The home is also undergoing re-decoration. Kind regards.

This home, only the second I have experienced, has really gone above and beyond in delivering care for my 98-year-old mother. Nothing has been too much trouble for the staff, who are friendly, caring and cheerful. The food, my mother tells me, is excellent, and they have added specific requirements
requested by her doctor.
The home is an old building with a large extension to the rear, which means some of the rooms have access directly to the garden.
An excellent residential home, made so by the staff.

My dad had a fall and broke his hip, he was living in Newcastle, so I needed to get him near me on a temporary basis until he moves in with me.
Luckily we managed to get a temp room at St Clair, and all I can say is what a lucky break that was. The staff are second to none - always polite and willing.
Dad
has been on his own for ten years, and I have seen a great improvement in his demeanour.
The company of staff and residence is responsible for this.
I would recommend this care home in a heartbeat.
Well done, one and all.

I can't praise the staff here enough. My mum has Alzheimer's and a number of other problems, but the staff take it all in their stride, nothing is too much trouble. Importantly, Mum is never left out, despite being unable to communicate properly, both staff and other residents always talk to Mum, and
you can tell she always seems happy there. My thanks to all at St Clair House.

From the time of contacting St Clair to enquire about room availability for my mother until the time she moved in a few weeks ago, I was very impressed with the process. I was able to be present when an assessment was carried out on Mum prior to the move, and St Clair was so helpful by dropping a wheelchair
at the previous home for transportation and ensuring Mum had the necessary equipment on arrival.
Mum has been made to feel so welcome, and nothing is too much trouble. I, myself, have found the staff very friendly and accommodating, which has put my mind at ease.
Mum's room is light and airy and always clean and tidy when I visit. She often tells me how lovely the staff and food are, and I would genuinely have no hesitation in recommending the home.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.768)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.768) out of 10 for St Clair House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.868 for St Clair House is calculated as follows: ( (93 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 106 Ratings = 4.868

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for St Clair House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
