With a devoted manager who has been with the home for over 20 years, and a deputy manager of over 15 years, Pengover is highly respected in the local community.

With just 36 bedrooms, the home has four wings, each with its own cosy lounge, where residents can relax with loved ones, who are welcome at any time and often enjoy taking part in activities with the residents. From animal therapy sessions and baking, to live entertainment from singers and musicians, there’s so much to do.

Outside there are extensive gardens surrounding the home, with wheelchair friendly pathways. Many of the bedrooms have garden views. The back garden is completely enclosed and features planters and raised beds. There is also a vegetable patch where residents enjoy growing their own produce, harvesting it for the chef to use in the kitchen. The team is also planning on creating a mini allotment area ready for the summer.

The local community is embraced into life in the home, including local college students who take part in intergenerational activities. The home also has a ‘Mobii’, where residents can play interactive light games which are projected onto the floor.

There is a spacious central dining room, where the residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals together, prepared by the home’s chef. From roast dinners with all the trimmings to fish and chip Fridays and home-baking for afternoon tea.

The home also has a hairdressing salon, for regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser who visits weekly. The residents also enjoy pamper sessions, with manicures and hand massages.

Providing residential, dementia, nursing and palliative care, the team at Pengover also offers respite care breaks. These are ideal for family carers who would like to take a break of their own, with the peace of mind of knowing their loved one is in safe hands.

Since my mother arrived at Pengover House in December 2022. She has received the most wonderful care, so well looked after by all the staff. It is always a pleasure for me to visit. Such a happy and friendly place I would quite happily stay there myself. All the staff work extremely hard and are always
lovely. The food is also excellent. My mother has been in the best of health since being a resident, that didn't happen while at home wit a care package.

My mum has been a resident for three weeks so far. From what I have seen, the staff are incredible. They have been very supportive of Mum and of me. I have found it particularly difficult to let go, but they have really helped me. I haven't met anyone who isn't kind, caring and smiling.
The food is
very good quality and Mum enjoys it.
I can't fault Pengover at all.

I have found the standard of care in Pengover excellent. The home is kept spotlessly clean, the staff are really lovely and there are so many activities laid on for residents. There are fall alarms in each room and the staff always attend to these promptly when triggered (even if only by my dogs who
are always welcome which is a great comfort to my mother). I know I can rest assured that she will always be looked after properly and genuinely respected and cherished by this amazing team! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

My blind brother receives truly kind and all-round wonderful care from all members of staff at Pengover. He is very happy living at the home and speaks most highly of the great friendship, warmth and understanding extended to him at all times. All the facilities are clean, comfortable and warm which

My brother has been in Pengover for just over 8 weeks. He has settled in and is happy there. The staff are very good and friendly. I've had lunch with him and the food is very good. My brother has made friends with a few of the residents and also participates in the arts and crafts sessions which he
has never done before. I would recommend Pengover to anyone.

Mum went into Pengover House in August 2019, originally for respite, but was so settled from day one that it was in her best interests to stay after my father passing away. During COVID and with the block on visiting my mum's dementia deteriorated at a noticeable rate, due mainly to the lack of interaction
from family. From the first day we were welcomed as part of the great big Pengover family. Mum was always treated with dignity and care. Staff have come and gone and with every new face comes an input of energy and enthusiasm. The staff have always been very approachable, understanding and compassionate to her needs. Before my mum passed away, care staff, domestic and laundry staff would sit with her often singing and chatting away so that she wasn’t on her own. This goes above and beyond and is the true meaning of teamwork. The staff do a wonderful job. The only negative is that there is no reception desk at the entrance and are left standing at the door as care staff too busy.

My wife is very well supported and treated with dignity and has been ever since she joined the care home. The staff who look after her are magnificent in their attention to detail and also in their reporting of her condition. I have absolute praise for the way in which the staff behave towards my dear
wife and would not wish her to be anywhere else. The facilities are extremely good. The place is immaculately clean. The food and drink are supplied by the chef and other members of staff. And it is very high in its quality. The safety and security of the home is immaculate. The staff and management are extremely committed and their experience is without a doubt very far advanced. The room which she is in is always neat and tidy. The activities do occur, but I wish there were more of them. And if this could be part of the ongoing program. there has been a gap in the activities role because of staff illness and I hope that this will be remedied soon.

Dementia patient who needed supervision, whom twice I found fully clothed in bed and when she left the home after 6 weeks had no bra on and most days no pop socks or socks (although available in her room). She left with two unopened boxes of pop socks. She always wore them at home!
All night clothes
and numerous underwear items missing when she left, plus 'most' of her clothes and a pair of slippers (luckily bought new ones whilst there).
Discovered, when she left, the same tube of toothpaste brought in was hardly used. Explanation? No other toothpaste in the room whenever I visited.
Seemed to be very little activities arranged during her time there and I visited all times of the day.
Staff were on the whole friendly and hard working!
Food was excellent!

A very good friend of many years, who is a resident at Pengover House, had a birthday and her husband asked if I would go and sing a few songs for her. It was agreed with the staff that this would be acceptable and they offered to give me lunch on the visit. I found the staff were friendly and very
caring, giving the residents help and assistance when needed in a dignified manner. The care home was very clean and appeared well run. The food was well balanced and cooked.
All in all, I was very impressed with the overall standard of the care home and its staff.

My husband was transferred from the hospital to Pengover House while waiting for an NHS assessment to be carried out for continuing care. We found all staff to be very good, kind, caring and considerate at all times and very competent. I was always kept well-informed and supported. He was treated well

I have the utmost respect for the staff at Pengover House who, for some time now, have looked after and kept my partner safe, when I alone could not.
For the reason alone I am forever grateful. I still feel lucky to be able to visit which I do quite regularly but have been beaten at times as with the
COVID situation, and lately, rail strikes.
So, to close, I know our situation is not desperate, but I'm very thankful for everyone's help at Pengover House.

My wife has been in Pengover House for nearly 4 years now. During that time I have visited her almost daily. During that time it was noticed that notwithstanding the differing aspects of care and the multiplicity of characters of residents all staff displayed a high degree of patience, kindness, care

My husband has been a resident at Pengover for almost one year - what a testing time for everyone involved! All the staff treat each resident as if they were one of their own and it is obvious in the kindness and professional care always given. Whenever you make contact with Pengover the response is
friendly, helpful and informative and in this current situation every effort is made to keep in contact with relatives, either by telephone, FaceTime or even the unexpected photographs which are always treasured.
I rest easily in the knowledge that the care and friendship given to my husband is second to none - giving as much dignity to each individual resident as possible, whilst they live through unforeseen health problems.

I started my journey in 2002 working for Cornwall Care and Pengover as a care assistant then progressing to senior care assistant after completing my degree in Psychology.


As I grew into my role an opportunity to become a Deputy Manager came up and I was fortunate to apply and was successful. I worked closely with the Manager, learning more skills to ensure that Pengover, the clients, staff and family members felt valued and respected.


I remained in the role of Deputy for five years, during this time I completed my Operations Departmental Management CMI level 5. This opportunity gave me insight not only into myself but also into Management style and leadership styles.


In 2022 I applied for and was successful in the role of registered Manager. I continue to learn, I feel that learning and evolving are never-ending.


I am passionate about Pengover, the clients we care for, the staff we support and the families that visit their loved ones.


I believe that Pengover is a home, not only for the clients we care for but also for
staff, family members and visitors.
