Set back from the beach, a short distance from the town centre in a quiet residential area of Newquay, Penberthy is a small home with a very warm, family feel.

There is a beautiful, enclosed garden, where the team supports residents to grow their own produce. This summer they’ve enjoyed harvesting this for the chef to use in the kitchen - from sweetcorn and runner beans to tomatoes. There is also a summer house and a Hawaiian-themed barbecue area, which is fantastic for summer garden parties and celebrations.

Part of the home is a converted manor house, with period features such as high ceilings and beautiful stain glass windows.

There are spacious bedrooms and a welcoming lounge area, with patio doors leading to the gardens, where residents can relax with loved ones, who are welcome at any time, and often take part in activities. With everything from live musical entertainment, including performances from the local Forget-Me-Not choir, to pamper sessions, with manicures and hand massages, there are so many activities to enjoy.

In the dining room residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals together, including roast dinners with all the trimmings, fish and chip Fridays and home-baking for afternoon tea.

The team is also passionate about embracing the local community into the home, with regular visits from young school children, who love taking part in intergenerational activities with the residents, to Scout groups who enjoy gardening activities.

The care home also has a hairdressing salon, for regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser.

A stone’s throw from the town centre, there are also lots of places to enjoy visiting outside the home, from pubs and cafés to the beach.

My experience with Penberthy care home is very good considering we live 350 miles away, which makes it difficult for us to see my aunt regularly so we rely on a good telephone contact. The last we visited my aunt we could see a vast improvement with the interior decorations and the condition the staff
have always been very good and caring.

I am a passionate and well-rounded person and always want the best for our residents. I work hard to ensure that our staff at Penberthy have the skill set to assist our residents with every aspect of their daily living. I encourage staff with any ideas that they have, to bring them forward if they enable our residents to live a richer, more full life. Our residents at Penberthy have access to activities throughout the day and evening. We arrange outings and have entertainers come into Penberthy on a regular basis.


I have worked as an area manager for community Care for Cornwall Care for 10 years, I then decided to change career paths into the Residential setting. I have 15 years’ experience within the health sector, I was the Deputy Manager when Penberthy earned all green on the CQC inspection. I embrace change, lead by example and always have a positive, warm attitude.
