Rowan House is a residential care home that strives to provide residents with a high quality of life and residential care in a friendly and relaxed setting.

As well as residential care, the home provides respite and day care for people who have recently left hospital or to give regular carers and family members a break, while they can be safe in the knowledge that their loved one is in a warm and welcoming environment.

Each bedroom at the home has en-suite facilities and residents are encouraged to bring personal furnishings to help them feel more at home. Rowan House’s spacious dining rooms and homely lounges help to make residents feel comfortable and at ease.

Residents can take part in a range of activities and outings, including arts and crafts, scrapbooking and therapies. Trips to the seaside and outings to garden centres for cream teas can also be arranged.

Visitors are welcome at any time; they can join residents for a meal provided by the caterer "Apetito" which offers a diverse food range, thoughtfully crafted for quality and taste.

Due to lockdown visiting has been spasmodic so therefore I cannot truthfully answer all the questions accurately. When I'm in the home usually twice a week the staff I speak to are very kind and considerate. My cousin appears to be happy and well cared for. When answering the phone it would be nice
to if they said their name then I wouldn't have to ask.

Entrusting initial strangers to help you care for your loved ones is a huge emotional task. Having used Rowan House for private domiciliary and daycare for 12 months, my dear mother's needs were as such tat full residency became necessary. As a health care professional myself I am so comforted with
the knowledge that all residents are constantly shown the utmost respect, professional understanding and support which is delivered in an environment filled with an abundance of warmth, humour and attention. Rowan House is a home from home.

A good care home with great staff who are helpful, courteous and caring. The food is satisfactory along with cleanliness but could be better.
Activities although difficult to provide should be more stimulating for the patients. Patients could be provided with care staff to be taken out locally and
for short walks.

Staff work extremely hard to keep Rowan House clean and tidy and do an excellent job. We offer varied menus and a choice of meals, we can accommodate any dietary requirements or requests. If there is anything specific you would like please discuss this with the manager, who will be only too happy to assist.
We offer a wide range of activities at Rowan House including armchair aerobics, musical entertainment, arts and crafts and cake decorating to name a few. We have recently invested in an interactive tabletop projector which holds a number of different games, interactive tasks, quizzes and music which can be updated at any time. We are always welcome to new ideas, so please talk to the manager if you have any suggestions. There are a few residents who do indeed go out for walks with carers, if this is something that your relative would like to do and is able to do, we can accommodate this.

My mother is 95 years old, frail and recovering from a broken arm and wrist. We moved her into Rowan House after a three-week spell in hospital. She was weak and in very poor health exacerbated by an infection which left her extremely poorly. The level of care provided has been exceptional and my wife
and I admire the skill, dedication and cheerfulness of all the staff involved.

The staff are really friendly and make both the residents and family feel welcome. It is easy to ask how your relative is and I feel they are easy to talk to and give you the relevant information.

I had to arrange for my Dad to go to Rowan House as he had just come home from hospital and needed care, my Mum had been taken to hospital (Dad's full-time carer) she had to have an operation and some recovery time.
My Dad wasn't too happy about going into a care home but on arrival at Rowan House,
he was made so welcome by all the staff, he was taken straight into a very nice hot lunch while I was shown his room.
The staff went out of their way to give me as much information and help as possible, they really put themselves out and the young staff were also exceptional.
The only negative is my Dad just sat in his room and wouldn't even try to join in with the other residents which was him being a bit difficult, even then one of the staff sat in his room chatting to him and kept him company.
Thank you to all the staff for helping in a very stressful time trying to support both my parents, if I had my way, my Dad would have stayed there a few more days.

Rowan house might, indeed, perceive that they have a friendly caring home, but it is definitely not the same 'homely', 'caring' place that my father-in-law was admitted to some 2+ years ago.
I believe this is simply a consequence of the turn around of staff over this period, and a dependence upon a
younger element. There are, of course, some quite exceptional staff at Rowan, but the downturn in care, in my view, is founded upon elements of the staff who perceive the position as employment.
As a prime example, during December 18, members of my local church and I held a carol sing-along one evening; not one member of staff attended, nor sadly were we and the residents offered a cup of tea/mince pie.

Thank you for reviewing Rowan House, we welcome it and will work hard to address all concerns raised. We did have some turnover of staff 3 years ago, however, we received no complaints relating to the standard of care for this period. There is always some degree of staff turnover and all new staff undergo a comprehensive induction and training programme. All staff have achieved their NVQ 2 in Health and Social Care, as a minimum, whilst the majority of staff have achieved higher NVQ qualifications in care. We currently have two staff members under the age of 18 who are very enthusiastic and are showing great promise.


We pride ourselves on providing the highest standards of care and we are always striving to improve. This is reflected in our 'Good' CQC rating across all five categories. We regularly receive positive feedback from families and professionals and the home has a great atmosphere.


In relation to the singalong evening; the request was suggested to us by the reviewer. We welcomed it and agreed they could come. As the event was not organised by Rowan House, we did not provide any refreshments. We hold regular choir visits along with numerous other activities and events, which are very popular with families and residents.

Mum has settled well and loves all the girls! Although Mum's carpet has been cleaned it still smells of pee, that I noticed the first time we walked in. Mum gets upset by other residents coming into her room at night although she has been told they won't harm her, as very unsettling for her. She was
particularly upset yesterday by a resident though she can't help it.
