Woodland is a thriving, happy home where the residents’ lives are enriched with the care of a fantastic and devoted team.

Winner of the Best Performing Home in Cornwall at Sanctuary Care’s annual Home Managers’ Conference 2023, the home manager has been with Woodland since 2011. She and her team are passionate about organising experiences and activities which bring their residents such joy.

There is such a warm, family feel to the home and family and friends are truly embraced into life at Woodland, as are the relatives of the staff, some of whom are volunteers and help with gardening and other activities.

There is also a private family and friends Facebook page, so relatives can see what their loved ones have been enjoying doing, even if they can’t be there each day in person.

The team is passionate about embracing the local community into the home, with regular visitors including students from Cornwall College, who enjoy intergenerational activities with the residents.

There are regular performers and entertainers, including a local drumming group, singers, and organisations who bring in animals for pet therapy, with everything from dogs and guinea pigs to rabbits and snakes!

There is a hair salon, for regular appointments with a mobile hairdresser. And many of the residents enjoy pampering sessions, with manicures and face masks. The home also has a Tiki bar!

Other popular activities are baking and gardening. This summer the residents have loved growing their own produce for the chef to use in the kitchen, with everything from courgettes to runner beans, as well as home-grown flowers for flower arranging activities.

There are welcoming lounges and a large light and airy dining area, where the residents enjoy delicious home-cooked meals together, with everything from roast dinners with all the trimmings, fish and chip Fridays, and home-baking for afternoon tea.

From the moment we arrived at Woodland's, we felt welcome. Such friendly and professional staff. Reassuring security at the entrance, sensible but kind protocols. Photos of staff displayed at the entrance with names were so helpful when we later met individual care workers. Our friend celebrated her
ninetieth birthday that day and we were amazed and delighted by the attention shown to her by the staff, warmth, kindness thoughtful and appropriate decorations, and a lovely cake with lit candles. An atmosphere of cosy, home-like love. Everyone here is gentle and respectful to those they care for and we thank you all.

I visit Woodland weekly to see a lady I used to support in her own home. I have seen a significant change for the better in her due to the care and support of the lovely staff and management. I really do appreciate the time and effort the staff put into caring for the residents. My father was relaxed and comfortable within a very short time of arriving at Woodlands. I also noticed that as his confusion grew and the dementia progressed, the care from the staff changed to suit his needs instinctively.
My anxiety and guilt were also really eased as well. All my questions were answered and I didn't feel like a pest or in any way stupid. I liked the Woodlands Newsletters they email, such a great little insight.
In short, the staff took really good care of both my dad and his family.
Thank you all so very much for a difficult job very well done.

Just over eighteen months ago, my partially sighted sister became a resident of Woodland as couldn't cope on her own anymore. Since visiting her weekly, I have noticed how dedicated and caring all the staff are to her and the other residents and treat them with dignity, respect and have a way with them
which makes them feel special. Sadly, her memory is failing but she is very happy there and it's good to know that she is being well looked after.

Woodlands is an extremely incredible and gorgeous location. The elderly are really well cared for. People who live there are always joyful, and I never see them in misery. The Woodland team works well together and always appears to be pleased and comfortable with their job positions, making it an excellent
environment for residents to live.

Mum has been a resident in Woodland House for nearly 2 years and we cannot fault the care she is receiving. Without exception all the staff have been fantastic and made mum feel part of the 'Woodland' community. Mum moved into Woodland House during the Pandemic after her Alzheimer's worsened. With
the restrictions in place activities and visiting were limited, but now we are fully able to see the extent of the excellent care and range of activities the staff provide. To see the place decorated at such events as the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, Valentine's Day and Christmas is a huge effort from all involved and makes it feel as homely as possible.
We are always kept informed of any changes in mums condition. From the home cooked food, the facilities, the garden, the range of activities and the Cleanliness of the rooms and communal areas, we cannot fault Woodland House. We have peace of mind knowing mum is safe and happy and we can't thank the Woodland Team enough for all they do.

My sister is a resident at Woodland Care Home, has been for over twelve months. I visit her every week and have found all the staff to be very kind and caring to the residents. They treat them with dignity, diplomacy and very often heard them using quite a bit of psychology and it has worked. My sister
loves it at the home, although, not knowing, sadly, what is happening now. It is such a happy environment, makes me happy to think she is being cared for so well.

When entering a care home you look for the signs that will give an indication of the way the home is run. Woodland Care Home displays an array of competence which is reassuring to the patient or visitor. The staff are most helpful and nothing seems too much trouble. I was most happy with the care given

We had a lovely Valentine's Day at Woodlands. The decorations and attention to detail - menus for lunch, beautifully dressed tables - so much effort put in. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Hot drinks were offered. The entertainment was wonderful. The residents really enjoyed themselves. An overall
lovely day. The staff always give 100%.

Like a previous reviewer I find it hard to put into words how amazing the staff at Woodland Care Home are, they go above and beyond what is expected providing a level of care not only for the client but for the whole family. The facilities are good and the rooms are very clean. Food is excellent and
drinks are readily available. However, Woodland's biggest asset is their wonderful staff, the managers, nurses, caterers and cleaners are truly amazing. My brother-in-law went into Woodland basically for end-of-life care and could not of asked for better. He had a large family all of whom visited and were made welcome in the last weeks of his life. In the last week his daughters, granddaughters and sister stayed around the clock, usually three or four at a time during the nights and as many as eight or ten some days. They were never made to feel in the way, in fact, they were welcomed and treated as part of the team. This was a very difficult time for all concerned but it was made easier by the love and care provided!

It is impossible to put into words how wonderful Woodland is. This is now my mother's home and every member of the staff is her extended family. The care and kindness given by all is simply outstanding, placing the resident's needs, respect and dignity at the heart of everything they do. All carers
are attentive to all resident's comfort, safety and well-being. They bring a holistic approach to care, showing interest and concern and consistently communicating with me in respect of all aspects of my mother's health. They are always quick to respond to any changes in her health and their exceptional care has given my mother, thus far, three years of a happy comfortable life which she would have not enjoyed without them. The home is always spotlessly clean and the homemade food is exceptional. They create a warm and welcoming environment, where nothing is too much trouble. I truly cannot thank each and every one of them enough. They are exceptionally special people.

At the start of the pandemic, we were told my mum had dementia markers, but she was high functioning, so we had plenty of time to get our ducks in a row. Fast forward three months, and we were all in a living hell as she deteriorated so rapidly. Trying to get any help or support during that period was
impossible, but eventually, we got the call to say she had a place at Woodlands. Mum had the most amazing care in the 18 months she was there. It was a difficult time with restrictions in place with visits limited and often not possible, but the staff did everything they could to keep her safe and happy while giving us the peace of mind that even if we couldn't be there ourselves, she was loved and cared for. The staff genuinely cared for Mum and myself, and I will be eternally grateful for their compassion and care during a very difficult period.

Mum has been a resident here for 3 years. We have always found the atmosphere to be homely (they seem to go out of their way to achieve this) and the staff to be well trained and very caring. Although they are very busy the staff not only attend to the necessary things but also the additional comfort
things making the resident as comfortable as possible and feel part of the overall family. We are also quickly informed of anything that happens affecting health and well-being as well as the more fun social events of which there are plenty.
Knowing Mum is in Woodlands and in the care of its team is a great comfort to me and I don't need to worry. Thanks to all the team, everything that you do is appreciated.

Woodland (Care Home) cannot be praised highly enough. My husband has been in its care for over twelve months. I have visited Woodland very regularly and stayed for a number of hours. During that time, I have only seen kindness and excellent caring from all the staff. However, I do have an excellent
example: this year my husband and I have been married for sixty years. It was impossible to take him out of this caring home to celebrate so Woodlands offered me an opportunity to have my 14 members of the family enjoy a party in the home. The atmosphere was absolutely loving and kind. They provided all the food and entertainment but most of all they provided love to all of us and even an exact copy of my wedding cake. No home could have done better. All my thanks to Woodland for their care and love for my husband, myself and all their residents.

What amazing staff. My father was a resident for ten weeks. They all have hearts of gold. They couldn't do enough for him and our family. They are so supportive and caring. Especially at my dads end of life care. They didn't just look after my dad but all of the family when we needed support most. It
was so reassuring that Dad was treated so well there. All the staff there are so smiley and welcoming when you visit.

Mum went into Woodland care home in June she was in the late stages of Alzheimer’s and passed away in August. The staff at Woodland care home cared for mum so well, they always made sure that mum was happy, comfortable, clean and tidy. They fully understood her needs and were so flexible with allowing
us to visit. We couldn’t have wished for better care for Mum. Thank you to all of the staff there for all of the help and support.

Our family are very grateful to all at Woodland for their exceptional care. It is so reassuring for us that Dad is treated so well.
Any queries/concerns have always been dealt with quickly and efficiently, and nothing seems too much trouble. All of the staff - management, carers, cleaners, kitchen
