Exmouth House is an outstanding care home set in the landscaped grounds of Exmouth Court. The home is at the top of Long Causeway and is situated approximately one mile from the town centre and seafront.

Exmouth House forms part of Amica Care Trust, a not-for-profit organisation which strives to provide exceptional care and support to people and their families.

The home specialises in dementia care and also offers day care and respite care. They are registered to provide accommodation to a maximum of 31 people.

The lounge and dining areas are spacious, light and airy and provide residents with access to the landscaped and secured gardens. The spacious and airy bedrooms can be personalised by residents to create a home-from-home environment.

The specialist staff are trained in the complex needs of those living with dementia. The residents' individuality, independence, and dignity are respected and upheld with great emphasis. The home provides daily activities for residents and welcomes family and friends to come and participate.

The home welcomes new residents, so feel free to give them a call to book a tour or for a chat with the Home Manager.

  • Visitors are encouraged to come at times that suit the residents. Exmouth House are very happy for visitors to spend the day and join for meals at a very small charge. The Home's preference is for visitors not to stay late into the evening and night unless their loved one is unwell and needs support and comfort.

My dad lost our mum 18 months ago and Dad was married to her for over 60 years. This was a big loss for Dad, but his new home, new life at Exmouth House has given Dad his spirit back. Thank you. May his final days be merry. God bless.

My brother and I have been very impressed with the care that our father has received whilst at Exmouth House.
The environment is friendly and open. Always plenty of staff in evidence and they are cheerful and positive and willing to assist.
My dad's room is very comfortable with plenty of space for
him to spend time there if he chooses.
I know that staff do all they can to stimulate and entertain residents and I have seen lots of really positive interactions between staff and residents.
They are very patient with dad and I know they have worked hard to meet his needs.
They well deserve their "outstanding" rating.

I live overseas and was able to visit my mother in June, shortly after she became a resident. The home and the staff were all welcoming and I was able to visit at any time. I stayed for lunch with my mother several times and the food was satisfactory. During my stay the weather was hot and the staff
frequently went around with soft drinks for the residents to ensure they stayed hydrated. All the residents were clean and well cared for and any "accidents" were soon cleared up. My brother and his wife visit my mother and, although her condition has deteriorated as expected, they assure me she continues to be well cared for.
One suggestion I have is that perhaps fresh fruits could be offered during the day as whilst I was there I didn't see any available.
I am hoping to be able to visit again soon and I am sure I will be welcomed again.

After an extensive search for a good care home for my mum, who has Alzheimers, we eventually found Exmouth House. Mum has been a resident since June 2019 and is looked after extremely well. The carers are kind and gentle with her. It is an excellent home and she is looked after so well. I feel very
confident she is looked after 24 hrs a day, with many daily activities, choir and trips out once a month. I am so pleased I found such a lovely home for Mum.

There is a friendly, welcoming atmosphere with bright and cheerful decor both indoors and out. Mum's room is clean and comfortable. Activities are varied including a choir and popular occasional trips out. Management is excellent and all staff patient and good-humoured. Hot meals are brought in; although
bland and lacking variety they are adequate. As mealtimes are the main focus of the day for most residents, more could be done to improve food. Altogether a great facility with lovely staff.

A comfortable home where residents present as relaxed and contented. Staff appear friendly and on good terms with all. A consequence of this is it is difficult to identify if there is a particular person looking after my mother. Although my mother has been a resident for just over two years there has
been, not unexpectedly, a deterioration in both her physical and mental health. I have not attended or heard of any formal review of her care needs which I would have found helpful. The bathroom lavatory in my mother's room has, for some time had heavy staining. Apart from this, I am satisfied with her care.

A soon as my brother and myself went to view Exmouth House we were sure our mum would be happy in such a warm, friendly, open and bright airy place. She is settling in well and making friends joining in with activities which she had given up on before. Always clean and groomed. Lovely friendly staff.

I visit a resident once a fortnight, telephoning in advance to arrange/check all is well. Office staff and carers are always cheerful and helpful and help when needed. My visit is for about 45 minutes as I take Holy Communion to someone, so I am not involved with mealtimes or activities. I am very aware
though that there is plenty going on for the residents and photos of the latest event, special date etc are a constantly changing display. A "late" breakfast is provided when others are having tea and cake and any disruption is dealt with calmly. My resident is very very happy.

Exmouth House is a very happy, caring home for residents suffering from various forms of dementia. We have observed as a family high-quality care for our mother who is 92. Our experience of this care home has always been positive. The staff are friendly to all residents and the home has a "family" feel about it. At the same time, the staff are professional in their approach. During our visits, they seem to go the extra mile to ensure that all needs are provided for.
On a personal level, my Aunt has been extremely well cared for. Whenever we visit, it is clear that someone has taken the trouble to dress her in really nice clothes and she seems to be content. There is always contact with me when a care decision is required and we are kept informed if she is unwell.


From my perspective, this is an excellent care home.

The Exmouth House Christmas Party was a resounding success. I know because I was there. The communal lounge was tastefully decorated for the festive season together with a large Christmas tree, again tastefully decorated.


The residents have health issues relating to age. Father Christmas arrived.

He sat next to, and spoke to all residents and watched, as I did, their eyes light up when receiving a gift. I also witnessed the sheer delight in their faces when presented with the opportunity to sing familiar songs and carols. Food, a glass of sherry, together with hot drinks and food... not forgetting the raffle, was provided.


It was humbling to see the caring staff working tirelessly to ensure that all had a good time.


The staff, of course, prepared the room for the party with regard to the tree and decorations to create the right atmosphere.

I went to visit mum on Thursday morning, she was sat with other residents around the table. They were making Christmas cards etc... I was welcomed to the table, offered a cup of coffee and everybody was very happy and chatty.
The activity lady and another lady had come in to help, they were all enjoying
themselves. It was lovely to see people being active and making things.

My mother is not an easy person to deal with. The staff are first class when dealing with her. She is always complaining but never has a bad word to say about the staff. The complaints are that she wants to go home and live on her own. This is not a medically safe option. On one of my visits I saw an
elderly lady slide out of her chair onto the floor. The care and effective use of a lift device to put her back into the chair was excellent, calm and caring. With such high marking of the staff care it could be assumed I am easily pleased. Nothing is further from the truth!

Staff were massively supportive of the whole family when dad moved in we were all astonished that he settled in so quickly. More signage and more toilets should be provided. The activities coordinator is marvelous but when she's off duty nothing at all seems to be available for residents to play with
or fiddle with.

We have had regular contact with this care home for several years, during which time both the resident and ourselves have been treated with the utmost care and respect. Today I was invited by my mother-in-law to join her and my husband to a review regarding her sister. As always Exmouth House gives above and beyond staff time, care and above all respect to each and every resident. No matter what time we visit or what day the staff are incredible- my husbands auntie
is 95yrs, not only has she got late stages of Alzheimer's but has also had a stroke- her care is amazing, no pressure marks, nails, hair clean, kept so comfortable as all residents.

Kathryn Langdon

Job Title: Home Manager

Kat has 20 years of experience in Health and Social Care. I hold a QCF level 5 diploma in management and leadership and have undertaken a variety of courses including creative activities for people living with dementia, I have always aimed to provide excellent care and lead by example.


Kat enjoys supporting people living with dementia and has done this in a variety of roles including helping set up a large specialised unit for person-centred dementia care in Somerset and improving environments using assistive technology to enhance the accuracy of recording and the quality of care experienced by the residents.
