Rose Lodge Care Home offers specialist dementia care in Exmouth and has two small communities (around 16 residents in each) for people living with dementia.

The cottage is designed for people with early to mid-stage dementia and the lodge is designed for people with mid to late-stage dementia.

The two communities have a similar look and feel, to ease any moves between the communities. The home's design and decoration support independence and encourage active and sociable lives. Rose Lodge has generous terraces and gardens which residents are encouraged to use.

By having two communities on the same site, Rose Lodge ensure that residents live with people at a similar stage of dementia and this increases well-being and minimises friction between residents. Two activity programmes are tailored to the specific needs of each community.

Living an active and sociable life is essential to the resident's well-being. Activities at Rose Lodge include daily walks and trips in the minibus, weekly fitness classes, dancing, choir, music, arts and crafts, gardening and looking after pets which include a dog, cats, a rabbit, chickens, fish and doves. Resident's pets can usually be accommodated.

Rose Lodge received an outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission in 2019, a gold award from Sterling University's Dementia Centre for the design of the cottage in 2016. Rose Lodge has been featured in the Journal of Dementia Care in April 2013 and Devon Life in 2017-2019.

The team at Rose Lodge know how difficult the decision can be to move to a care home. To ease this transition, they offer daycare where people can join the community for one or more days a week, befriend the residents, and join in the daily activity programme. Respite care is also offered, subject to room availability.

I would thoroughly recommend Rose lodge to anyone wishing to find a care home for their loved one. The owners, manager and staff go beyond their duties in the care and support given not only to my husband but also myself and family. The care is excellent, my husband loves his new room, his ongoing daily
activities, especially when it is not raining and he can help in the garden, either tending the flower beds, brushing the paths, feeding the animals, painting the fence or in his own words, topping up his suntan. Since he has been at Rose Lodge he has a different out;look on life and he is very happy, which means a lot to me.

My mother moved into Rose Lodge in June 2015 after being in her own home for 43 years. This was a very big thing for her, she has settled in ok. The staff are very caring, make a big fuss of her, never leaving her on her own when I leave after a visit.
There is always something going on for them to
do or being entertained, with outside people. I can visit any time and never feel in the way; and always get offered a cup of tea. They take her out on little trips. I really do feel I couldn't have found anywhere better for her, if she has to be in care, I am more than happy with the care she receives, up to now.

Mum says "It's lovely here, couldn't be better." As a family, both children and grandchildren, we have really been made welcome enabling such vital relationships to be maintained. From the moment mum saw the lovely garden from her room she was happy. To arrive and find her sitting safely in the sun
at peace, is such a gift. Her daily walks, often on the beach, make all the difference to mum's quality of life. The wonderful staff have taken the time to get to know mum and make it as much a home from home as possible. We cannot thank them enough.

Rose Lodge provides residents with a sense of home. The staff are its greatest assets. They go the extra mile, they do it willingly and cheerfully. They make my life easier, nothing has ever been too much trouble. My father is, as I write, dying. The care they are providing my dad and us as a family
is wonderful. Beyond the call of duty.

A no nonsense home which never ceases to amaze at the level of interaction, care and affection they have for their residents including my mother. I am free to come and go as I please- at meal times am always offered to join them. They, in my experience, always take a pro active approach to any problem
and are willing to/happy to take the families views into their care plans. I couldn't recommend more highly.

Andrea Luxton-Keough

Andrea lives in Exmouth, she has over 20 years of experience supporting people who are living with dementia.


Andrea has a BSc Hons Degree in Dementia Studies and an RMA L4. In 2019, Andrea completed an eight-day course in Birmingham with Meaningful Care Matters in the planning, design and facilitation of Dementia Care Learning and The Butterfly Project.


Andrea believes that each person has the right to live well, and this happens by putting their emotional needs at the centre of what Rose lodge does.


The people who live in our communities are our family; together we celebrate life, embracing the potential of the here and now, the beauty of the moment and sharing the daily ebb and flow of life.

Tracey Long

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 2015

Tracey has worked at Rose Lodge since 2015. She began her journey as care for the Cottage community and has worked her way up to taking over as Registered Manager in 2021. Tracey has a Level 5 in Leadership in Health and Social Care Management and completed an eight-day course in Birmingham with Meaningful Care Matters in the planning, design and facilitation of Dementia Care Learning.


Tracey shares the same passion and beliefs as Andrea. She believes that everyone has the need to feel loved, valued, and heard and to have a reason to get up in the morning.


In each community, Tracey leads the team in living and working together. There are no barriers, no uniforms, drug trollies, routines or anything that creates a divide between us and our family members.
