Kahala Court combines quality care with an atmosphere of peace and tranquility, helping older people with care needs and physical frailties to achieve a satisfying daily lifestyle.

While being ideal for old age care, the residence also welcomes adults diagnosed with a form of dementia, employing carers experienced in a wide range of personal challenges.

Comfortable lounges and a conservatory are great for relaxing and the attractive grounds and views make the home a pleasing place to live and visit, while there are also excellent amenities nearby.

Our mother was a resident for over 4 years up until her recent death. She really felt as though this was her home and we as her family really appreciated the excellent care she received. This was especially apparent during the past weeks when her needs became much more demanding. The care and attention
by the staff was second to none and showed a high degree of excellence and patience. We would also like to highlight the incredible level of support and comfort shown to family members during the final weeks. We wish to express our heartfelt thanks to the whole team at Kahala Court.

My husband has had a week's respite. He enjoyed his stay and was very happy with his care. I’m glad he was well cared for. I would take him there for respite again. He was extremely happy and would like to go there again.

Mum feels safe and well cared for at Kahala Court. This gives my family great peace of mind. Mum consistently praises the staff for their friendly manner, willingness to help, and caring attitude which I have also witnessed firsthand. Mum really enjoys the meals provided at Kahala which are tasty and
nutritious. They cater well to her gluten-free diet. Staff have an efficient system of medication administration.

Kahala Court is friendly, small and caring. We were very fortunate to have found a place for my mother. It was just very sad that in the end it was not for longer as she passed away there after only a couple of months at the age of 93.

My mother-in-law has been treated with great care and respect throughout her stay in Kahala Court, especially recently having lost her husband who was also at the home. The staff are like a family to the residents and this love is what makes Kahala Court such a good place to live. The management and
all the staff have kept residents safe and well and communicated with families at all stages of the pandemic. They are an exemplary team.

We, as a family, have been very happy with the care received for Mum. She is very happy here, enjoys the food and is looked after very well. She is quite content and appreciative if all that is done for her.

Due to Covid, I have been unable to enter the house but the "pod", in which I visit my husband, is well organised and the staff are without fail polite, friendly and caring.

My mother did not find it easy moving from independent living to residential care, but Kahala Court made her feel welcome and gave her a homely, warm and friendly environment to settle into. The staff are very accommodating and whilst respecting her privacy also encouraged her to join in a variety of
things. As my mother's life drew to its end the care was second to none. I was very reassured that my mother's needs were well looked after. I certainly would recommend Kahala Court and it's great team of dedicated carers.

When my mother moved into Kahala Court just over five years ago I was happy with the care being provided. However, over the past year, amid a change of ownership, several changes of manager and a high turnover of care staff, the quality of care she received declined worryingly. I have, regrettably,
had to raise concerns with the Care Quality Commission over medical care and record-keeping which could have led to extremely serious consequences.

When my mother passed away, aged 97, we received not one single word of condolence or sympathy from the management at Kahala Court.

Therefore, while the home remains under its current ownership and management, I could not, in all honesty, recommend Kahala Court as a safe and caring environment which is a sad reflection of its changing standards over the past year.

Due to the General Data Protection Rulings, we are unable to give specific details in response to this review.
However, we can state that this resident’s needs were such that we felt we could no longer meet them safely at Kahala Court.
Therefore sadly, after five years of residency, we had to give notice in the best interests of the resident to ensure her health and welfare needs could be met in a setting more suited to the increase that had occurred. We had tried in every way to enable the resident to remain in the home, but it had become clear over the past twelve months that we could not safely maintain that residency.
We fully accept that this was a sensitive situation for all concerned, and we always try to support families/next of kin at times like this.
This was no exception, but we do understand that, in this instance, the next of kin did feel upset at the decision we made, but we fully explained the reasons for the decision made and hoped that the next of kin understood.
We do consider that the home gave as good as care as possible during the resident’s stay.

In the 17 months my mother-in-law has been a resident in Kahala Court, there have been only two issues - the home manager changed four times in less than 12 months. This has now stabilized. The other issue is the unreliability of the lift which broke down over Christmas and is still unreliable.
My
mother-in-law has settled well and is in good health for a 90-year-old. She is reminded to take her medication and eat regularly - things she used to forget, causing concern and worry for the family.

Well established care home with experienced and caring staff. My mother receives close attention from all the staff who are generally most kind and supportive. The management team seem to be very hands-on and keep me in touch with my mum's needs and general well being. I would strongly recommend Kahala
Court.

Mum and dad are in Kahala Court for respite care. From the moment they arrived, they have been treated with utmost care and dignity.
The overriding impression I have gathered in the past four weels is that the home provides a caring, safe and management work in conjunction with each other to put their
resident's needs first.
My parents love the staff (always fun) love the exceptional food and I am able to relax knowing that they are in a safe and happy environment.

I came here to live permanently on April 18th, 2016 and settled down very quickly.
My husband had died the previous year, I am partially-sighted and had recently suffered a minor stroke and other health problems.
Up until June this year I needed no care except help with having a bath, but then I had
a hip replacement.
I then needed help with dressing and undressing (socks, pants and trousers) and getting in and out of bed.
The night staff were extremely kind and helpful, also helping me on my visits to my ensuite bathroom during the night.
I have noticed that staff have endless patience with residents suffering from dementia when they have tantrum-like outbursts or refuse to take their medication etc.
We have had a new manager recently who is very good, friendly, approachable and we have had 2 helpful residents' meetings.

Overall Kahala Court is a well run, caring and friendly home. The staff are considerate of resident's needs. The building is old and that brings its own difficulties. In particular, the heating system fails occasionally. Communications could be improved; requests and messages do not always get passed
on at shift changes. Social activities are limited and those that are provided are repetitive. Residents are not taken out on trips.

Mum and Dad have just celebrated their 70th Anniversary. As Mum is in the care home and Dad still lives at home, as a family, we came into Mum's home for the celebration. One of the staff made the cake at home the night before and another came in to help decorate the bedroom on her day off. When the
cake was brought up at least 6 members of staff came up to the room with the cake. When we came back in the afternoon they came up with pots of tea for us all. They couldn't have done enough for Mum and Dad to make the day enjoyable for everyone involved.
With Dementia and the staff, I would love to hear more staff ask Mum which she would like instead of saying "do you want your tea/coffee/food etc" as Mum would always say 'No', she didn't want it, as that is what Mum would say if she was able to, because she wouldn't want to bother anybody.
I do want to say a big 'thank you' to everyone at Kahala for their assistance with Mum. It isn't easy to please everyone. Thank you.

All of the staff at Kahala Court were fantastic with me and my dad. He was only there for a short while but they were so understanding and caring. They took him on the same day, I enquired without any hesitation and made all of us feel so welcome. Nothing was ever too much for them and they were very
encouraging and supportive of my father and me. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. I would recommend Kahala Court to anyone!

My 98 year old father has had the kindest of attention at Kahala Court. He was not an easy man to deal with but was treated with the utmost respect. The carers go out of their way to please the residents and dad thought they were kind an helpful. The home itself is beautifully maintained, very cosy
and clean. It was nice to be encouraged to visit at any time I liked, nothing to hide there. His end of life care was exceptional and he passed away peacefully.

The guilt feeling you have when encouraging your mum to go into care is overwhelming but everyone from day one, the staff, the jolly atmosphere and the general ambience of the care home, removes most of that guilt. My mum is looked after so well and always has a smile on her face when I visit. It has
taken no time at all for her to feel comfortable and safe. All the anxiety and depression she has suffered over the previous 6 months has completely disappeared. I enjoy visiting every day and the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home. Even my teenage son has visited on his own and feels very comfortable.....no "old people smell" as he would say, which is testament to the efforts of the staff.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.438)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.438) out of 10 for Kahala Court is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 5.000 for Kahala Court is calculated as follows: ( (22 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 22 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.438 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kahala Court is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.4 = 0.313

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
