Kent House Care Home is a beautiful home set in the heart of the historic town of Okehampton that provides the very highest standard of care to independent or fragile elderly men, women or couples, mobile or disabled, blind or partially sighted in order that they maintain a high quality of life in a cheerful, carefree atmosphere.

Kent House is set in its own beautiful grounds whilst being close to local amenities.

Carers are delighted to offer Day Care & Respite Care facilities in Kent House as well as standard facilities for permanent Residents.

If you or a family member or friend are looking to, 'lighten the load' to take life a bit easier and to enjoy the companionship that can be found in Kent House please do come and visit.

My husband has been at Kent House since November as overall I am happy with the care given. However, in my opinion, re safety/security there is not enough staff to cope with 25 residents! The needs of care vary but due to dementia residents need one to one care very often. Dementia is a demanding illness
and the staff at Kent House do a very good job indeed.

My mother has been a resident at Kent House for 2 years and feels safe and secure.
She is physically reasonably able and mentally fully capable and the staff encourage her to be independent and to go out into the town.
Visitors are always made welcome and the staff are kind and caring.
Kent House
enables my mother to remain in the local community.

Having the same carer/carers is a very good idea, almost like a one to one as carers and the residents become used to each other. Spending less time in their room if possible. My experience on the whole, is a good one. I am always kept informed of any illness, change of meds etc and wellbeing.

Generally, the home has a good atmosphere with personal care, help and also a named carer - so having a point of contact for the family. The majority of the time there appears to be encouragement with diet and fluids but they can stay in their rooms for days. Whilst I understand not everyone wants to
socialise, mobilising in the home or a bit of fresh air would be good.

Whilst it's great to see that you would recommend the home we've also noted your feedback with regards to activities and cleanliness and will speak to the manager about this. I can offer that with regards to activities that Kent House does have a full schedule or internal, external and community-based activities that are focused on groups and individuals. Our residents social lives and involvement forms a significant aspect of their overall care packages and, as you say, some (for a variety of different reasons, from unable to unwilling) will not wish to take part in the communal ones - in which case we ensure people spend time with them in their rooms etc as per their wishes. The Registered Manager, holds regular resident and relative/friend meetings at Kent House and any suggestions such as yours would be great to be discussed as such meetings (or at any time with her as she will always be happy to meet with you). It's good to know mum is safe and being looked after well. The staff are helping her adapt to her new surroundings and encouraging her to take part in the activities available. They are very patient with her and treat her with respect and dignity.

Since mums admittance to Kent House, I have always found her to have been well cared for. Always clean, tidy and dressed in her own clothes. During the last visit, I witnessed a carer feed mum her lunch which took an hour allowing mum time to digest her food without being rushed. I always drop in as
and when and mum will always be either in the lounge or conservatory fully dressed and clean and not been left alone in her room.

I am quite happy with all I have seen except one thing. I think the personal washing could be improved on. I think perhaps a shower should be provided for those that are able to use one.

I feel we are very lucky that my Dad is at Kent House. All the staff are very kind and efficient . The manager was very supportive when Dad was unsettled .
The food is lovely and Dad is kept very clean and tidy. I have nothing but praise for everyone at Kent House.

Mum made the decision to move to residential care in April 2015. Fortunately Kent House had a suitable vacancy at that time. We cannot fault the care and kindness mum has been shown, it feels like a home from home and the staff are superb. Nothing is ever too much trouble and we, her family, feel confident
and reassured that mum is treated with dignity and respect. The manager employs an open door policy, so we know it is possible to talk through any concerns in an informal but professional way.

I think Kent House is a very caring and nurturing establishment for older people; their compassion towards those who suffer from dementia is quite heart-warming. Nothing appears to be too much trouble for the staff who have responded positively to any and all comments I have made in connection with
