The Manor Exminster is a grand 17th century Georgian listed manor house that is situated in half an acre of grounds, in the pretty village of Exminster.

The property was built by the diocese of Exeter for the local Rector and his family. The home was converted into a residential care home in the mid-80s and an extension was added in 2004 that added a state of the art kitchen, more bedrooms and increased the size of the dining room.

Residents are encouraged to relax in privacy and dignity at this friendly residential care home.

From the moment you walk in the door, you feel the friendly warmth of the home, rooms are clean, tidy and homely. Nothing is too much trouble for the wonderful staff who carry out their duties with a smile, showing dignity and compassion to all. A lovely variety of home-cooked food is provided. The
Manor is a true home from home.

Every time I visit my mother, she looks happy relaxed and well cared for. The staff are very welcoming and kind. It is very reassuring that she is so well cared for by the staff and she tells us she is very happy.

We had the difficult decision to place my father at The Manor after several falls at his house resulting in visits to the hospital and a realization that he just can't take care of himself anymore. As I live overseas this was the first time I was able to visit him and over a week I visited him twice
a day at different times of the day. What stood out about The Manor was the staff. I witnessed their interaction with all the residents and they always found time to have a chat with them, a kind word, and a smile. Their patience was amazing. They tried to make this feel like a home with the kitchen always open for a coffee or tea and biscuit if a resident had just got up. The facilities were good and it always seemed clean but in the end, it is the staff the makes the difference and I thought they were wonderful.

The Manor is friendly and welcoming to residents and creates an atmosphere of calm. I visited as a volunteer to sing with the residents and encourage them to sing along with me and our volunteer group. There is a culture of positivity and encouragement here. All residents are included and can get involved
in extra events if they wish (most of them do). They are engaged and enjoy this stimulation making it a pleasure to visit and sing there. The staff work hard to make it a warm and friendly home. Special mention to the lady who arranges and organises the extra activities.

I am very happy with the care my father is receiving in The Manor, mainly due to the fantastic staff who work there. They seem to genuinely care about the residents and they clearly try to make life as interesting and comfortable as they can for them. People are treated as individuals and the care is
adapted to their preferences and needs.


The Manor has a relaxed atmosphere, staff are never short of a smile and visitors are made to feel welcome.


I have a huge amount of respect for the staff (who must have endless patience!) and I am very grateful for the care they are providing to my father.

Thank you all for looking after my friend.
We are so impressed with the care and attention that the staff at The Manor give to all people in their care. It is always a pleasure to go there and the carers make the family so welcome with tea or coffee and a chat.
Our friend passed away on May 27 but
the wonderful staff at The Manor, who cared so much and showed such feeling towards our friend, and such a comfort to my husband and I, thank you girls.

My mum has been at The Manor for the last six months and is very happy. The staff are all friendly, very patient and are lovely with her. They are happy to chat to me anytime I have a query. My mum really loves the entertainment that is provided during the week and thoroughly enjoys it when the entertainer
visits. During these sessions, they often sing, quiz, play games or participate in craft projects. It is the highlight of her week! I feel she is well looked after here and enjoy my visits to see her.

We are delighted with the improvement in my mother since she moved into The Manor last September. Although she suffers from dementia she is much more animated in limited conversations and enjoys all that The Manor provides in the way of care, food, entertainment etc. The staff are all excellent nothing
is too much trouble for them and they all have the residents welfare at heart.
It has been a really positive experience for both mum and us and in her words "she loves it".

There is a friendly, open feel to the Manor. Staff are polite, professional and helpful. Recent changes to staffing have resulted in a new, dynamic with the greater emphasis on interaction and stimulation of residents. As a former carer, I believe this is a very hard environment to work within and I
applaud the Manor for the care they provide.

My mother has been living at The Manor for over a year. She settled well and is very happy. The staff are wonderful and very caring. My mother is obviously very fond of all of the staff and they are very fond of her. It is a lovely, caring, supportive atmosphere. I also feel very supported and look
forward to visiting. All the friends and relatives that I have taken to visit have been very impressed with the happy, friendly atmosphere. The manager is very 'hands on' and is always available for a chat. She is very enthusiastic and efficient. I am confident that my mother is being cared for well, and that she is safe and happy. I am glad I found The Manor!

My step-mother's transition from home to The Manor Exminster was handled slowly and carefully. There had been serious safety issues while she was living alone in her own home due to her dementia as well as blindness from glaucoma. She had no insight into her condition, was wandering into town at night,
leaving gas taps on and was losing weight, so the family had to make the decision for her to be cared for in a residential home. She was admitted with minimum disruption and the staff helped her to settle down in a remarkably short time. I feel confident she is warm, fed and well cared for physically, emotionally and socially. We are all very relieved and grateful to the manager and the staff.

If it were not for the superlative quality of care that my aunt has received, following breaking her hip in May, I very much doubt that she would have been able to be there to celebrate her 100th birthday and enjoy the day. The team at The Manor have made my grandparents feel very much at home and comfortable. They look after individual needs and you can tell that the team enjoy what they do and it makes such a difference. Both my gran and grandad very much enjoy being at The Manor and have seen a big improvement in
them and the home since the new manager took over.

I am likely to recommend The Manor to others and have done in the past. My mother has been there for two years and is happy and well looked after. Since the current manager took over it has been a pleasure to visit and my mother's care has been a lot more consistent.

The Manor is located in a pleasant village setting with plenty of opportunities for quiet walks and local outings. The care my mother receives is excellent. The staff are friendly and attentive, and the home provides many opportunities to socialise and take part in daily activities. A community hall
in the village serves as a welcome second venue for such events, offering an opportunity to interact more widely with the world. Families are always welcomed warmly and encouraged to take part in the daily schedule. Menus are set, but the staff are always open to providing alternatives when residents feel peckish outside of regular mealtimes. The C18th building seems to be being maintained reasonably well, though the home is on two floors with only one stair-lift between them. If you're on the second floor it can be a bit of a wait to get up and down. The windows are also old and heavy, which makes opening them a little difficult. All in all though, The Manor seems very well managed.

It's great that your mum receives excellent care. With regards to your point about the stair lift, we have investigated in detail the opportunity to install a passenger lift - this comes up against significant problems owing largely to the fact that The Manor is a Grade 2 listed building. The stair lift was found to be the best all round option. From memory, I believe we have 8 rooms on the first floor, so congestion should not be too much of a problem most of the time. We do our best to let those rooms to people who are more physically able of course. The sash windows, again, we hear what you say and again, we're very much restricted by the Grade 2 listing in what we can do about these - can't change the style, can't install PVC etc.

The staff are all very friendly and helpful.
Nothing seems to be too much trouble for them.
Mum is very happy here and always praises the staff for being so nice.
Food appears to be very good and offers a varied and flexible menu.
Anything can be delivered to the room whenever required within reason.
Cleanliness
and hygiene are of a good standard and facilities are excellent.
Mum would like a few more activities at times but it seems many residents are reluctant or unable to join in.

My Dad is happy at The Manor.
He took a while to adjust to the new situation but with support from the staff, he made the transition well.
Dad has a wicked sense of humour and all the staff understand this and encourage it which is fantastic.
