My mother has been in Quay Court for three years having passed last week. She had always deceived the best of care delivered with kindness, caring and thoughtfulness from the staff. Every day greeted with a smile and "how are you". The home has high standards of cleanliness and residents are always
well turned out. She loved the meals and joining in the residents group in the lounge. Public holidays are made special, decorations and music. As a visitor to my mother I was made to feel very welcome, offered refreshments and always a cheery smile. I shall miss these visits and the staff.

Thank you for your kind words . It is always a pleasure to know that we have made someone's life just that little bit easier and more comfortable. Your mother was a pleasure to look after and she will be sadly missed by us all here at Quay Court. Best wishes, the team

My family member has been a resident at Quay Court for over a year. The care and support given to her have been exceptional. It is clear to see the management take their time to get to know the resident (and the family!) as the care plan perfectly reflects the care needs. The management team are also
very approachable and always make time to speak with me when I visit. The staff are person centred with their approaches to each resident and it’s a delight to watch them interact with them all in the communal lounge. Laughter can be head throughout the building and nothing seems to be too much trouble at all. There’s the odd wait here and there but that’s to be expected, but even with this wait it doesn’t deduct on the care they provide. The activities on offer varied and the staffing team actively encourage all to participate. Overall, I would highly recommend Quay Court. My family member has flourished since being in their care. Thank you will never be enough.

I cannot speak highly enough of Quay Court and the staff.
The care my Mum received from entering the home in November 2023 to her passing in May 2024 was excellent. The support I myself received on the days leading to Mum's passing will always be remembered with gratitude.
Mum unfortunately had Dementia
and with the disease, there can be times when behaviour is problematic. However, during such times, dignity, respect and care were maintained. Special thanks to the managers and the nurses and staff, too numerous to mention who cared for Mum.

Dear Jenny. Thank you for your kind words. I know the staff and management will be really pleased to know that you felt that your mother was cared for with dignity and compassion during her time with us at Quay Court and that you yourself felt supported when you needed it. I know that your mother will be sadly missed by all in the home. Best wishes.

Mum was a resident at Quay Court for a year. A particular member of staff and the team have always been professional, and supportive and have gone above and beyond to support Mum and in communicating with me. Mum's behavior would often be challenging and the team always dealt with issues in a caring
manner. Diabetic food was great and entertainment/activities were laid on. I have no hesitation in recommending Quay Court to others.

Mum was at Quay Court for almost a year until she had to go to the hospital just before Christmas following a stroke. The staff are very caring and supportive. Very happy for Mum to have been there. I would like to send my thanks to all the staff for looking after Mum so well.

Lovely staff with caring attitude doing their best to keep residents safe, happy, and well.
Covid regulations have meant a reduction in activities for the residents to participate in which is no fault of the home but has led to a bit of boredom creeping in with the residents.
Staff are well trained,
have an eye for detail, and deliver person-centered care to the best of their ability. Standards are good and the rooms look clean.
Meals are freshly cooked in-house by a chef who will go the extra mile to ensure all is being done to keep good nutrition and cater to the individual's choice.
All the staff are friendly and approachable, and communication is good. Senior staff and management clearly have taken the time to get to know the residents well and don't have to refer to notes.
I would be happy to spend my twilight days at Quay.

My Mum has been at Quay Court for 18 months now, following a sudden worsening of her dementia, which resulted in her being admitted to hospital. I cannot praise enough, the way the manager and staff cared for Mum and supported me, as Mum settled into her new life at Quay Court. Mum's admittance to the
home was during the pandemic, with the ensuing contact difficulties, but the efficient 'safe contact' system set up by the home, was brilliant and it was lovely to be able to see Mum after several weeks of no contact during her hospital stay. The manager was especially supportive during Mum's social care assessment process and I cannot thank her enough for this.
Mum has settled into her new life well, her room and the resident lounges are light, airy, clean, warm and have a lovely view. The staff team are always cheerful, kind, caring and very patient!
Thank you everyone at Quay Court, you are wonderful.

My sister has been in Quay Court for over a year now. The care staff and management have been great, my family cannot fault them. Everyone has had a tough time with the pandemic and here they have had the additional stress of the building but the manager is always helpful and always does everything
needed to keep everyone happy. Thank you to all the staff at Quay, you are amazing.

Mum has been at Quay Court for around 3 months now following a worsening of her dementia and becoming unsafe in her own home. These pandemic times have been difficult for everyone with a connection to a care home but Quay Court have been calmly efficient in keeping staff and residents safe and in initiating
the heated visiting 'pod' within the grounds. The staff that we've met are patient, professional, supportive and there is a general air of good humour and warmth. Mum has settled well with help from the staff. She enjoys the food very much and has adequate opportunity for socialising.... so important to anyone's mental well-being.
The management are responsive. For instance, providing photographs of Mum's room and details of a typical day so we have an idea of her life despite not being able to visit her in her room ourselves at present. Thank you to all at Quay Court.

Thank you for your review. It has been lovely to see your mum settle in so well here at Quay Court and we understand well how difficult it can be for families not seeing their loved ones. We will always try to reassure families wherever possible to show that your loved ones are safe and well cared for. Kind regards

The care provided at this care home is second to none. I have known a few of my close friends to be cared for here now and they all have loved their time there. All of the staff are so kind and caring and the manager has been so supportive to us all from the very beginning, and even more so during the
unfortunate events of this virus. I know everyone is being so well looked after. Thank you to everyone and their kindness. This really is a special home.

It is so lovely knowing that my auntie is being looked after so well, knowing she is safe with all the staff. Manager and staff deserve a large pat on the back for everything they are doing keeping residents safe from Covid. The manager keeps me informed of everything that goes on with my relative.

Keep safe everyone and thank you to the manager and your team.

I cannot speak highly enough of the care my mother has been given, especially during the past several months of Covid, and the communication I have received about mother’s welfare. I live out of the country and, as I have not been allowed to travel, it has been a huge relief to know my mother is being
cared for properly and that she is happy. Thank you to all the carers and staff at Quay Court for their courtesy, caring and comfort.

Thank you for your kind review. During these challenging times, we understand the difficulties families are facing with not being able to see their loved ones and how vital it is to still be able to keep contact in any manner possible. It has always been a priority for us to ensure that all of our residents' welfare and happiness here is maintained throughout their stay. It is a pleasure to be caring for your mother. Kind regards, Emma (Manager)

Manager and management, are in my opinion dishonest and unprofessional in their dealing with the transfer they organised for my mum in the full lockdown in May 2020. In my opinion, to received copy email from them that had alterations to the original to be dishonest actions, as the statements I found
which were removed were offensive to me. Upon formal complaint to them, I was told that there had not been any breaches of protocol, professional misconduct or moral lack of compassion from anyone at Quay Court. I would not feel confident in trusting this home again to be transparent in their procedures. The staff, however, showed genuine affection towards my mother but they were often short-staffed and run off their feet. She was often left to her own devices. On many occasions her room stank of stale urine and even faeces on the walls and floor. Often finding her still not dressed by 11.45 am or find her dressed but smelling of stale urine/faeces, cleaning the room or Mum myself at times.

Reply from Nikki Rogers, Owner at Quay Court Care Centre

We are sorry that the reviewer feels this way and we would dispute the points raised. Although we understood the distress over the discharge of her mother, the discharge itself had to occur as the home could no longer legally meet her mother’s health and welfare needs. The timing of the discharge was unfortunate in so far as it coincided with the Covid-19 lockdown. The manager and her team did all they could to care for her mother during this extended period within the home to ensure her safety was maintained. At no point did the daughter make reference to the negative issues she has now raised during her mother’s residency which consisted of three years but was very upset that her mother had to be discharged for her own welfare. We would therefore question why the daughter was as upset as she was at the prospect of her mother leaving Quay Court if she was as unhappy with the Management and care provided as this review would suggest.

I have found the staff to be very approachable, and if Dad has a problem I mention it to them and it gets sorted. I am a lot more relaxed as Dad is very happy there and the care he receives is excellent. So I can go home and relax knowing he is in capable hands as I used to look after Dad, but not there
permanently.

Quay Court feels like a 'family' and refers to something my relative said whilst in hospital recently, 'I want to go home, I want to be with my friends. They do everything for me' because that is how she feels about Quay Court. The staff are all so caring considerate and nothing is too much trouble.
My husband and I are so grateful that our relative is safe, warm and well cared for. If ever there is a problem, we are informed straight away. After recently thanking a member of staff for doing something for me, his reply was 'it was my pleasure'. What a lovely, genuine thing to say, it meant such a lot. When one day it may be my turn to go into a care home I will have no hesitation to go to Quay Court. They will all know me anyway. Well done all of you and thank you for everything.

My mother has been resident in Quay Court for a number of years. She has always been well looked after and it gives me peace of mind to know that this is so and that she is safe. I am kept up to date on her situation, particularly if she has a fall and have confidence that she is well cared for. I admire
the staff for their dedication and believe that they do an excellent job.

I have nothing but praise for the care, staff and management of Quay Court Care Centre. Every one was polite and courteous to me and my next of kin during his stay, from September to December, at all times and especially after his passing. My one abiding memory is of the respect that was given to my
next of kin at ALL times. I visited every day and the staff never knew exactly what time of day I would be visiting, but I found that on EVERY occasion I was at the home, when in his room and at some times when he was desperately ill, the staff member entering ALWAYS knocked the door. I found this not only deeply respectful but quite moving an extremely caring gesture. I shall never forget this and I could rest assured he was cared for every day all day - many congratulations to you all.

The warm and welcoming atmosphere is apparent when walking in the entrance. I have never seen so many smiling faces from staff and residents. My dad really loved being there and I should be so lucky to receive the same care in the future. There was always a space for parking when visiting and the location
in beautiful Kingsbridge is so close to the shops and estuary, which was a real plus. Thank you Quay Court.

From when my mother was first admitted with Alzheimer's in August 2016, the management and facilities have become much better. The food is good home cooking and there is plenty to eat. Activities do take place but are limited probably due to the residents broad, complex needs and a lack of staff. The
opportunity for some residents to be taken out would improve their well being but can only be achieved with more staff. The staff are kind, welcoming, caring and respectful. Both my mother and father were residents for over a year, and the end of life care given to them and us was exceptional.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.640)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.640) out of 10 for Quay Court Care Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.848 for Quay Court Care Centre is calculated as follows: ( (39 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 46 Ratings = 4.848

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.792 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Quay Court Care Centre is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 48 registered maximum number of service users is 9.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.6 = 0.417

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
