Always impressed with the level of care and hard work of the staff. Today we visited with family to visit and the level of care was very apparent to all. Staff are very hardworking in a very demanding environment and took time with everyone to assist their needs with compassion. The afternoon party
was an excellent activity and my mother-in-law appreciated the opportunity to have four of her family around her. Thanks to everyone concerned.

Reply from Michelle Butt, Manager at Charlton House

It was lovely to meet you all at the tea party.
I thought it was a lovely thing to do for all the residents and families to come and spend time with their loved ones.
I wanted to introduce myself to my new post as the Registered Manager.
I have great passion in the residents and I think having another party again is really good for everyone.

My dad moved into Charlton House Care Home recently. My dad and I had a fantastic welcome on arrival, the staff we amazing and so caring with compassion and expert knowledge of what was required for my dad's previous data. I was so impressed on arrival at Charlton House with my dad, it took a while
to take it all in, what a lovely care home. All the staff went over and beyond to make us feel so welcome, it felt like home. My dad's room was so spotless it was like a brand new start for an old timer. Unfortunately, Dad passed away recently due to ill health, alas I am so pleased my dad spent the last seven weeks of his life at Charlton House Care Home, being looked after by highly trained staff with great compassion and caring staff.
Top marks Charlton House Care Home, I’m so glad I met all of you guys at the home and my dad had his short time with you.

I am writing to thank all the amazing staff who dealt with my dad during his two-year stay at Charlton House Care Home. From his arrival after being discharged from hospital until his death a few weeks ago, everyone was so caring and understanding. Unfortunately, Dad deteriorated over the last few months
but we were still able to see him. Thank you from all our family.

My father has been at Charlton House for just over a year now and receives excellent care. He has an en-suite room and is happy. When he arrived at the home his health was poor and it is amazing to see him now walking again and in much better health. Staff are always friendly and helpful and do a wonderful
job. Cannot thank the staff enough.

My Mum was accepted this week and was treated with the utmost respect and professionalism, inclusive of patience. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff involved. Medication was arranged without me chasing all the time and my phone is always available if the staff needed anything.

My mother has been a resident at Charlton House for the last two and a half years and I continue to be impressed with the level of care she receives. Most recently, my mother has required more intense care and all of the carers have been so very friendly and helpful - not only towards my mother but
also towards all members of our family, demonstrating much kindness and compassion. My mother enjoys a lovely spacious bedroom and there are various lounges that the residents have access to. Charlton House also benefits from having very good chefs producing excellent food. The acting Registered Manager has always been very helpful, informative and keen to quickly resolve any issues which have arisen. Thank you to all the team at Charlton House for giving us peace of mind in the knowledge that mum is well cared for.

I would just like to say how much myself and my partner appreciated everything the girls have done for my mum, as she was in Charlton House for respite and was very well looked after, we cannot thank all involved enough for the time and dedication they showed Mum.

Mum was happy there, but mum had the sort of personality that throughout her life when at a time things were difficult that she would always have a smile on her face and would brighten up anyone's day. Activities are excellent.

My wonderful dad received the most excellent and compassionate care at Charlton House. The amazing team of hardworking carers and their managers were so supportive from the very beginning of Dad’s transition into care. No questions were left unanswered, no request too silly or small. Dad was treated
with dignity and kindness.
He had a beautiful room, with double doors onto the garden. It was very private, clean and well cared for.
We were able to speak to staff at any time during the day, and could phone to talk to Dad and video call him too, which brought both him and us great comfort.
The team at Charlton House are good-natured and have a great sense of humour and fun. Their communication with us was excellent. As a dementia care home, I would highly recommend Charlton House; and though I cannot name individuals here, the ladies who looked after my dad were like angels, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you girls.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all of the staff at Charlton House. My uncle has been a resident for the past couple of years and during that time he has been happy and well looked after. His issues are now more complex and he has had to move to a nursing home but during the past year when things
have been so difficult for everyone; whenever possible the staff have always done their very best to enable contact between me and my uncle - I live over 90 miles away (including FaceTime via the activities co-ordinator). Most of my contact has been with the senior team leader and despite being rushed off her feet, she has always been so kind, friendly and made time for me - to reassure me and to explain what has been happening to my uncle. I wish to congratulate all the staff at Charlton House for making it a ‘home from home’. Thank you.

My Father has been a resident at Charlton House Care Home for over 9 months. All the staff are amazing and very skilled. When we were able to visit, his room was spotlessly clean and food looked delicious. Staff work hard to encourage all residents to socialise and get involved in daily activities.
Time outdoors means a lot to my Dad and this is arranged as often as possible. Occasionally we are able to video call him and he does seem to enjoy this. He has had dementia for a number of years and the staff are always keen to show him the care and consideration required. Every occasion is celebrated and Dad recently enjoyed a lovely birthday cake made by the kitchen staff. We were so lucky to find such a homely place for the last chapter of Dad's life. We worry less knowing he is content and well cared for, surrounded by people who take such care of him.

I have found this home to be excellent for my wife, who broke her wrist and badly bruised her body. Being unable to lift her, the best place was this home. They are so good to her, the dementia does subside because of the company at this home.

The property is beautiful but not suitable for a care home. The staff are very friendly and helpful but unable to answer the doorbell, patients buzzers quickly enough. My brother's room smelled very badly of urine - even after the carpet was cleaned.

My mother has been a resident in Charlton House for 6 1/2 years. During this time the staff have done a magnificent job looking after Mum. Mum has been very happy living in Charlton House. The staff are very kind and caring, not only to my Mum but from my observations of all the other residents. The
management and staff are very professional and patient carrying out their tasks which can be difficult, but always try to maintain a family atmosphere within the home. The staff are very prompt seeking help from the doctors if needed. The food is freshly cooked and Mum is always telling me that she enjoys it very much. The staff are always very welcoming to us and keep us informed. I would have no hesitation recommending Charlton House because family members are well looked after.

The best thing about Charlton House is the staff. My brother arrived there in pain and hence with challenging behaviour. Their care has brought his pain under control and reduced the need for painkillers. My brother is now much calmer and back to normal.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.176)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.176) out of 10 for Charlton House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.276 for Charlton House is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (35 Goods x 4) + (20 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 116 Ratings = 4.276

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Charlton House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 44 registered maximum number of service users is 8.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
