The staff were extremely kind and friendly. They were patient in dealing with both my sister and myself. During this period of Covid and not being able to go in and see the home or my dad the staff were excellent at communicating with my self and my sister. They seemed to be kind to my dad but he was
not happy in the home because it was so noisy. Bells are constantly ringing and he could hardly hear us speak on the phone. The home would benefit by having a separate phone line for residents (mobile) so that you could contact staff and residents separately. If my dad raised a problem and nodded off whilst we were talking, the phone line would be open and I wasn’t able to alert staff. But the staff were definitely patient and kind when speaking to me and my sister. More approachable than where my dad is now. We moved my dad to a home more local to myself and less noisy.

I am so impressed with The Old School House during this difficult time of lockdown. Mum moved to the home just before the lockdown began and I have spoken to staff several times during this period and feel very reassured that every effort has been made to keep the residents safe. After a short adjustment
period, Mum seems to be settling in really well. I live in Spain and it is a great comfort that she is in the best place and is being looked after so well. I thank you all.

After my mum (who suffers with advanced dementia) needed to go into a care home due to a broken pelvis we were assured she was in the best place by the manager. My mum was unable to walk or stand unaided so we agreed the best course of action was to instigate a pressure mat beside her bed and an alarm
on her door to alert staff if my mum moved from her bed. This was critical for my mum due to her injury. Sadly after entrusting my mums care to The Old School House, they did not even plug my mum's pressure alarm in or even close her door. This rendered her vulnerable all night. When I went in in the early morning, I discovered that the night staff were not even aware my mum had a pressure mat or needed the door alarm. A member of staff tried to hide the unplugged mat and informed me she didn’t need it because she had alarm beside her bed. My mum has no capacity to understand how to use an alarm. I removed my mum immediately for her own safety . Unfit for purpose.

Over this month, The Old School House has improved significantly. Concerns have started to be addressed, new furniture and some painting (further required). Hopefully, this will continue.

On arrival I was greeted in a warm friendly manner. I was with a friend who was visiting her father. We were offered tea and biscuits and sat with her father listening to the musical entertainment, which I understand they have every day!
I found the living area clean and well decorated, and overall,
I would recommend this home, because the staff and management have total respect for the people staying there.
If I ever found myself in a position where I needed 24 hour care, I hope I would be allowed to reside here.

Current Review Score: 8.5 (8.461)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.5 (8.461) out of 10 for The Old School House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.7 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.794 for The Old School House is calculated as follows: ( (27 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 34 Ratings = 4.794

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.667 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old School House is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 7.2 = 0.417

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
