Located on the outskirts of Plymouth, near the hospital, transport routes and other amenities, the home is a purpose built two storey building, fully accessible by anyone who has physical disabilities. It has wide doorways and corridors, level access throughout, automatic doors at the front and a shaft lift. All bedrooms are single and the majority have en-suite toilet facilities. A bedroom on the ground floor is for respite care or visitors who require an overnight stay. Bathing, showering and toilet facilities are available on each floor, close to bedrooms and communal rooms. There is a lounge and dining room on the ground floor, a smaller lounge on the 1st floor and a room for the use of a hairdresser. A call system is installed throughout the home. There is a large garden, accessible by all who use this service and ample parking at the front of the home.

There are many aspects of this home that I think is excellent, but one which greatly impresses me is their communication with relatives. They fully understand the needs of friends and relatives to know what is happening, and this has been particularly important during the restrictions imposed by the
lockdown.
My uncle always looks clean and smart, he smiles when a member of staff is nearby (he is helped when using FaceTime) and he so appreciates being made a hot drink in the night when he cannot sleep. I feel the staff do their best to ensure that their residents feel “at home” and not “in a home”.
During the pandemic, visits have been restricted to a summer house when possible and, at all times, the safety of the residents has been paramount.
I feel the overall standard of care is excellent, but I am unable to comment on many aspects because I have not been able to enter the building.

My experience is based on the period from December 2020 (when my mother was first admitted to Tamar) to the present date. This, of course, was at the height of the pandemic, and I have not yet been able to enter the home.

The staff keep me well informed of Mum’s health. My Mum’s demeanour has improved

significantly, and she is always happy when I speak to her on the phone or visit her in the Summer House. She always looks well cared for, clean and tidy. Staff are always helpful, friendly, efficient and courteous.

The managers and staff have worked hard to protect residents during the pandemic and to make sure they are well cared for and well looked after. Recently, a wide range of engagement activities have been introduced, and these are appreciated. Staff keep relatives regularly informed of all health and
other issues. This is a very well run home, and the group's values and policies are of a high standard.

Dad moved in at the end of February. Whilst Covid restrictions have limited access, we have been extremely impressed with attention, care and communications from the team. Good value when compared to other homes.

Tamar House came highly recommended to me, and it does not disappoint. The staff are extremely caring and adopt high levels of empathy and compassion to residents and family members. Nothing is too much trouble, which means that residents receive nothing but the best. This is driven by a highly effective
manager who strives for excellence in everything she does. The home has some wonderful people who care for the residents, and they treat residents like their own family members.
My mother has made significant progress and this, no doubt is a reflection on the dedication of the team to ensure each resident fulfils their full potential. They demonstrate creative ways to keep residents minds and be physically active. They regularly share photos and videos. They are extremely receptive to feedback, and has a huge emphasis of the residents voice and the voice of family members.
I would highly recommend Tamar House; my mother is so happy and safe, as a family, we couldn’t ask for anymore.

There have been many changes over the last 12 months or so and from what I have seen, all of them are for the better. Management and staff are very good at keeping me informed of what is going on for my dad and the care home in general. This was always good, but in these tricky times of coronavirus,
have been even better. My dad is very content and happy where he is. He has a good relationship with the staff, leading to some fun and laughter, something I feel is very important.

My mother has been at Tamar House for approx. 4 years and during that time she has been treated with dignity and respect, is well cared for, and is encouraged to take part in all activities. The staff are helpful and respectful to relations and visitors, keeping immediate relations informed of any
problem or treatment.

This is the best home I have seen, having viewed at least 7 others. My mother is well cared for and I am kept well informed by the friendly staff.
Entertainment is provided regularly in normal circumstances. Every effort has been made during the current pandemic to keep the residents happy.

My 95-year-old Mum has been living at Tamar House for over 2-years. Throughout this time she has been looked after exceptionally well by all of the staff. They are very caring and treat her with dignity and respect. At times, Mum becomes agitated and distressed, and staff respond appropriately and give
her time and support. I am informed of any changes in Mum’s condition, and along with her, I am involved in decisions regarding her care.
During this extremely difficult lockdown period, all the staff have been excellent, and our whole family acknowledge how well Mum is cared for by them all

I would certainly recommend this care provider because of the care they give the residents with a firm but kind touch.
I am also very impressed by the way the home has managed to keep both residents and staff free from the Coronavirus.
I am always welcomed when I go to drop things off, and I am
kept informed of the medication changes for my aunt.

My mother has lived at Tamar House for more than a year now. It took her some time to settle and feel at home. The care team are very supportive to her, especially when she is unwell or anxious. They do everything they can to help her, treating her with care and dignity. The home is very welcoming to
our family and keep us informed and involved in activities and events. I know Mum is safe and cared for at Tamar.

When my Dad was transferred to Tamar Care Home I was impressed by the cleanliness and high standard of furnishings and facilities.
The amount of activities and entertainment is excellent.
The care is first class and staff very caring and always willing to help. Call bell times are minimal.
Food is
excellent and my Dad loves it there and gets on with all the staff.

The home is good and staff are caring. It is purpose-built which is good. In general, I think the food in the care home is boring and dated. My mother has travelled a lot and likes Mediterranean food and curries. But generally, the food is a bit "seventies". Otherwise, all is good.

The staff are particularly helpful and caring. They treat the residents with dignity and are always able to deal with situations appropriately and kindly, even in the most difficult circumstances.
Relatives and friends of residents are welcome at any time. During our initial visit, one of the very
elderly residents stopped and looked at us and said that is was a very nice home. After over two years we thoroughly agree and feel lucky to have found such a good home for mum.

My mother has been here for three weeks. We chose Tamar House for her as my mother-in-law has been a resident here for over ten years and we know that the standards of care are very good indeed.
It is a difficult choice to make for ones parents and it has been such a help to have prior knowledge.
The staff have given so much care and support to both my mother and me to ensure a smooth transition to the care home. I am very pleased with everything.

My mother aged 92 has been a resident at Tamar House for 12 years, during which time, she has developed severe dementia. Throughout her time at Tamar House she has been looked after superbly. The management are excellent as are all the staff. Efficient, caring and considerate. I cannot praise then highly
enough. We have recently moved my mother-in-law into Tamar House, which in itself reflects our confidence in their ability and consideration for all their residents. Excellent in every way.

I found when I approached the staff at Tamar House that their attitude towards a prospective customer was very professional, asking all the right questions. Compared to other care homes that I enquired at, Tamar House provided me with the confidence that this establishment was the perfect place for
our father to come to. Dad settled in very well and immediately put our minds at rest in knowing the right choice was made. 'Thank you to all concerned!.
