I find the general management and staff.of Vale Lodge good at making the residents comfortable. They are not afraid to put their hand or do anything even when there are mucky tasks so to speak.
Residents get entertained. Both in house (with
visiting musicians and on trips out to many different
locations usually for afternoon tea.
Apart from Xmas residents birthdays are always celebrated.
Meals are well prepared and certainly enjoyed.

Vale lodge has a wonderful happy family atmosphere, the residents are extremely well cared for, and enjoy many outings in the minibus for coffee and cakes. Mum is safe and very well cared for by all the carers, The managers are totally on the ball with everything and are a truly amazing team! One staff
member in particular is absolutely gifted when dealing with the residents, he handles difficult situations with ease and is always making my mum laugh. I am extremely grateful that mum is living there with such a wonderful extended family which is what all the residents at vale lodge are.. One big happy family!

I am very pleased we chose Vale Lodge after a previous, unsuitable care home. The staff are kind and respectful, the food is good and there are trips out to various locations, even during the pandemic (when allowed). The success of Vale Lodge throughout the pandemic is testament to their dedication
and commitment to their residents. Although I am far away from Plymouth, I know I don't need to worry.

I am very happy with the care my Grandma receives at Vale Lodge. She is well looked after and I am always made to feel welcome when I visit. During the pandemic, I have not had to worry, as I know my Grandma is safe and Vale Lodge have always kept my mum informed of relevant information about my Grandma's
care. Thank you to the manager and all your wonderful staff.

During these difficult times, it has been a great comfort to myself and my family that my grandmother is in a fantastic care home that is giving the best possible care to her.
I'm extremely happy that the care home has been implementing Covid-19 regulations to make sure that the residents are as safe
as possible from this awful disease.
My family and I are very happy with the amount of contact we have had over the phone and on video calls with my grandmother when it has been impossible to visit.

Having been unable to visit my mother-in-law, I am confident that she is in the best possible care and all precautions are being taken to protect her against Covid-19. We regularly receive updates on her health and general well being.

All the staff at Vale Lodge Care home provide an excellent service to my Grandmother. It has a real family feel, and it gives me great confidence knowing that she’s in the caring hands of true professionals. No job is too big or too small for the Vale Lodge staff as highlighted when staff have come
in on their time off to cater to my gran’s needs and/or requests. No corners have been cut in ensuring the top quality safety/comfort of the residents with high standards of cleanliness and around the clock security vigilance from the staff.

I can't praise the owners and staff at Vale Lodge enough for the care, compassion and empathy they show towards their service users. It has been a very hard year, and throughout the pandemic, it has been a relief to know that although I could not visit my mum, I knew she was being well looked after
and being kept safe. During the lockdown, we have had regular contact with Mum, and the manager has kept the family updated with all covid updates and anything relating to Mums wellbeing. Thank you, is not enough for these angels.

I just wish to add to my previous reviews how much I appreciate the amazing care my mum is given in Vale Lodge. Now in the 3rd lockdown because of covid everyone is suffering and worrying, of course, I cannot see my mum at the moment however it's a great comfort to me that I know she is being so well
cared for both mentally and physically. I can't thank the staff enough for all they do.

My wife and I have visited my mother many times at the Lodge, and every time, we feel nothing but praise for the manager and staff. All employees are treated as extended family, as are the residents all treated with sensitivity and care. Visitors are made to feel most welcome with a genuine and friendly
greeting.
The manager is extremely dedicated and hardworking and her enthusiasm directed towards Vale Lodge and the residents is second to none.
My mother’s room is well decorated and clean, and I believe room decoration, in general, is tackled regularly.
Entertainment is arranged frequently.
Residents are taken out in a people carrier one to two times each week and are treated to cream teas etc.
I would summarise and say that Vale Lodge is a wonderful place for the residents to spend their twilight years, in safety, security and comfort. They are cared for lovingly by staff and the manager puts in many long hours over and above what would be acceptable in other professions.

We were looking at options for providing care needs for my mother following the death of her husband this year. Our primary aim was to ensure she would receive the best possible care in a homely environment, taking into account her complex dementia behaviours and symptoms.

Providing care within the

family unit was not working and it became apparent that specialist care was going to be needed to look after her needs. We carefully explored all options that were available to ourselves and looked at each in great detail before concluding that her needs would be best met within a care home environment.

We have been truly impressed with the outstanding care given at Vale Lodge and nothing is too much trouble for any of the team that work there. A happy home that is welcoming, friendly and displays true professionalism in everything that they do.

I can thoroughly recommend this home if care is your priority and you want the best for your loved one. Thank you Vale Lodge for all you are doing.

Vale Lodge is a wonderful home for my aunt. She has a beautiful and comfortable room. The dining room is set for meals with several residents at each table and the table is set as it would be at home. The food is very good. Next to the dining room is the day room and she enjoys sitting there with
the other residents and they often have live entertainment, especially during festive seasons. The residents often have trips out and these always seem to involve tea and cakes. The staff are very attentive and sensitive to the needs of the residents, many, like my aunt, have dementia. The home has a distinct family atmosphere.

I am very happy to recommend this happy and caring home.

My Dad resides at Vale Lodge and has done so for over 4 years now. I submitted a review last year and I have no hesitation in giving even more praise this year.
He is able to take part in the visits, the staff are always attentive and understanding of his confusion brought about by dementia, and he
has a lovely room which is always clean and tidy (not like my dad at all!!) so I know he is being well looked after. Well done to all the staff.

My mother has been a resident of Vale Lodge for nearly 2 years and is so happy there. She is looked after by excellent staff who know her needs, treat her with respect, and take pride in their job and I never have to worry that there is going to be someone there who doesn't understand her. She looks
forward to going out on trips weekly for tea and cake. Always well organised and made welcome when visiting. This is a very happy home and lots of activities for residents and also relatives to get involved in. I cannot praise it enough.

Father has been at Vale Lodge for just over 2 years now and quickly made it his home. His medical needs are well attended too and the staff all appear to be very attentive and thoughtful. He has put on weight and while he cannot always remember what he has had for dinner, he always says the food is
good.
Dad features in all the photos taken on the day trips. I understand he is the first with his coat on and ready to get on the mini-bus. Trips typically incorporate a cup of tea somewhere. They had a train ride last year with fish and chips. Seeing Father content at Vale Lodge has meant a lot to his remaining family. Thanks to you all for what you do for him.

I am delighted with the care and attention my dad receives at Vale Lodge. The management team and staff are brilliant and I have no worries at all about his care. I do not consider that it is just a home but it feels more like a family and when you visit, it is warm and inviting, with a lot of laughter.

There is always someone for my dad to talk to and everyone is so attentive. My dad thoroughly enjoys the weekly trips out in the mini bus and Vale Lodge also has celebrations on bonfire night, Halloween, Christmas etc, as well as singers that come into the home to entertain the residents . My dad expressed an interest in bell ringing and the Manager has organised on a couple of occasions for hand bell ringers to visit the home. Nothing is too much trouble and I have and will continue to recommend Vale Lodge.

Despite Vale Lodge being a 'Residential' Home it is dementia friendly. My Aunt went into this home with early stages of dementia which accelerated due to illness. At no stage did the staff at the home suggest her being moved (which would have caused her distress), once her care requirements included
nursing. The district nurse came in on a daily basis and the staff were brilliant. They retained her dignity, were always upbeat and sensitive and unfailingly attentive to her needs. When she was well enough, there were weekly visits to local landmarks in the home's mini bus which she adored.
I cannot recommend Vale Lodge more and should I ever need a home in the future, this would be the one for me.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.583)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.583) out of 10 for Vale Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.6 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.958 for Vale Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (23 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 24 Ratings = 4.958

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.625 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Vale Lodge is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 4 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
