My mum has been a resident since 2023, my mum can be quite difficult at times with her dementia & needs but the staff are very kind supportive & nothing is any
trouble. Always make me feel very welcome when I visit, offering refreshments biscuits cakes ects,If you're looking for a kind caring well run home where staff & management really care about the residents I would definitely recommend Abbeywood house.

My wife moved to Abbeywood House in November 2022 following a stroke and the additional problems of severe rheumatoid arthritis.
The intention was a short-term placement but this was finally extended to May 2024 when she moved with me into supported living.
It’s difficult to speak too highly of the
care and support she has received at Abbeywood while she was a resident, and the staff’s grasp of her needs and issues.
Their sense of humour, courtesy and understanding was exemplary as was their wish to offer the best support they could in what were, at times, difficult circumstances.
Their willingness to involve me in my wife’s care and to explain the way this was being carried out has been a great help to us both and has enabled us to maintain as normal a family life as possible.
What is clear at Abbeywood is the sense of friendship, almost a family relationship, which develops between, carers, residents and their families.

Since this home's new manager has arrived the quality of care, approachability, good atmosphere has shot up. My mother is receiving wonderful kind care. They are always reviewing her health needs with me and her doctor. I feel so happy about her care. Thanks to everyone.

My mum was discharged from the hospital to Abbeywood House from June to September 2023. The care and compassion shown by the staff have been above and beyond, Mum thrived here. Nothing was too much trouble from management, staff and the lovely ladies who run the entertainment. We witnessed excellent
care given to all the residents along with lots of fun. My father and I were always welcomed with a smile, coffee, tea and biscuits. The only reason Mum had to move from Abbeywood was funding, which made us extremely sad. My little chihuahua was also welcomed and loved going around to say hi to the residents and getting treats from the lovely ladies in the kitchen, we've been told we can visit whenever were in the area for her walks, which we will do.
I would highly recommend this wonderful care home to any families looking to place their loved ones. It gets 5 stars from myself and my family.

My mother moved to Abbeywood in November 2022. From the start, we were very impressed with the manager who literally did everything possible to facilitate mum's move there as safely as possible. Throughout her stay, mum has been treated with kindness and compassion. She has a large room and my father
has been warmly welcomed as an integral part of my mother's rehabilitation and emotional well-being. Any issues which have arisen, I have been encouraged to speak to the manager at any time (day or night!), who has worked with me to resolve these. After a very turbulent 6 months, it is wonderful to be able to relax and know that my mother is safe and being looked after, close to home.

Abbeywood House is excellent.
My mother-in-law came to Abbeywood by chance: she suffered a severe stroke in May 2021 and went to Abbeywood simply because it had the next available place on her discharge from hospital. She was meant to stay for no more than six weeks but she was so happy there that
she refused to move, instead staying until she died in November last year (2022).
Even in perfect health, my mother-in-law could sometimes be a challenging character, and she suffered from the effects of her stroke, but everyone at Abbeywood understood her wants and needs, treating her with just the right blend of kindness, consideration, loving care, and patient good humour.
As well as the level and style of care she received, my mother-in-law was also pleased with the fixtures and fittings: her room was warm and comfortable and she very much enjoyed the food. Abbeywood is my home she would say and say proudly.

Mum had had two major ops within 3 months of each other towards the end of 2021. The second was due to her having a fall at home and fracturing her hip. Having tried a team of carers at home my sister, mum and I agreed that the situation was no longer viable and mum moved into permanent care at Abbeywood
in November 2021. She has a lovely room overlooking the garden which is kept very clean. The staff are all very friendly and look after her very well particularly now that she is completely immobile and spends 90% of her time in bed. Mum sees Abbeywood as her home now which is very reassuring for my sister and I.

My mother was in Abbeywood for eight years until her recent death. When she first arrived she would tell me regularly that it was like living in a hotel. There were always plenty of activities to keep her occupied, even though her mobility was limited and her mental faculties were failing. I, and the
rest of the family, were always welcome when we visited and the staff were very helpful in getting her ready for one of our regular walks across to Babbacombe Downs for a coffee or fish and chips. The Covid years were tough for everyone but the staff at Abbeywood did their best, within the rules, to facilitate visits throughout. For the final 14 months of her life, Mum was restricted to her bed and yet the staff continued to treat her well and with dignity. I would like to thank you all for caring for my Mum so well during her final years. I have recommended you to friends already and will continue to do so.

My mother has Alzheimer’s and has been a resident at Abbeywood House for the past ten months. The care she receives there is truly wonderful and I am so grateful. I was so worried when I wasn’t able to meet my mother’s needs anymore in her home and the management and staff were so incredibly supportive
and understanding and they made a very difficult time bearable with their care and attention to my mother’s move, especially so during the pandemic. It is never too much for the staff to be contacted any time of day. My mother took some time to settle but the staff were always reassuring. The food is great and so is my mum’s appetite now. She always looks lovely in her clothes and loves her regular haircuts. She loves living at Abbeywood and often says so, which is a great testament to the care she receives. Thank you to all the wonderful staff for giving my mum dignity and safety in her Alzheimer’s and the opportunities that are still so important to her. Really thank you.

Mum moved into the care home in August '21, her dementia was very difficult to manage at home. It took mum a little while to settle into the home but now she loves living there. She's calm when we visit her, she's happy, she's stimulated and settled. It's such a relief to see her settled and happy.
She has dementia so she gets confused as to why she's there and sometimes thinks she works there but we just go along with it. The staff are truly amazing in the home. They are caring and good fun and nothing is too much trouble for them! Thank goodness for care homes like this! Mum's bedroom is always clean and tidy. She loves their meals and comments on how good the food is. The home has a locked door policy which is just what mum needs else she'd be wondering. The home is very clean and tidy. The garden area is lovely. I am so glad mum is in this home.

My Grandmother was a resident of Abbeywood House for nigh on 5 years and the service and care she received for the duration of her time here was exemplary. Caring and supportive staff provided for all her health and well-being needs. Regular stimulus with scheduled activities, health care appointments
and treatments were well organised and communications back to the family were always excellent. We felt reassured that Gran was in the most capable hands, with kind, supportive and attentive care around the clock, nothing was ever too much trouble and the team were welcoming upon her introduction to the Home and consistently warm and professional from the outset until her final hours. We will always be grateful to the team at Abbeywood House and would thoroughly recommend others should similar care be sought.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.960)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.960) out of 10 for Abbeywood House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.979 for Abbeywood House is calculated as follows: ( (47 Excellents x 5) + (1 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.979

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.981 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Abbeywood House is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 33 registered maximum number of service users is 6.6. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.6 = 0.606

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
