Crecy Care Home is a specialist mental health care home in Weymouth, providing affordable residential and respite care for older people with dementia, and younger adults with serious mental health care needs.

In February 2018 the Care Quality Commission rated Crecy as ‘Good’ overall.

Family members of people with dementia can often feel neglected and frustrated. Their involvement and support are encouraged, so they can receive the very best care.

Crecy has a specialist mental health unit where mental health care is provided across the board. It is one of the few units in the south-west dedicated to caring for people aged 18+ with serious and enduring mental illness.

The mental health unit, together with the independent living Cottage, provides the ideal setting for those who need ongoing care following their discharge from hospital into less secure accommodation.

Residents in both units enjoy the greatest freedom possible, combined with the highest levels of mental healthcare provided by highly experienced and trained staff.

The Cottage is a self-contained annexe to the main building with its own bedrooms (mostly ensuite), plus a kitchen, wetroom and lounge.

It gives its residents a level of independence, particular to each person, with help on hand when they need it. It also provides ideal community rehabilitation tailored to the people living there.

My mother has been at Crecy Care Home for a year. She is happily settled in a homely setting.
The carers treat her in a caring, dignified way, with appropriate humour which she loves. The home is very clean, and with no unpleasant smells, and in good order. The food is varied and tasty with a lot
of snacks and hot drinks. Her bedroom is cosy and her clothes are clean and well-kept. She is dressed appropriately and more often than not in matching colours.
I am able to visit whenever I want, and am welcomed for as long as I want. I have a good relationship with the carers and I am informed of any issues immediately, which is reassuring. I enjoy my visits to the home, the friendly atmosphere, and chatting to the other residents and staff.
We have a weekly log sent to us, keeping us up to date. Medical issues are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Difficult behaviours are dealt with appropriately by the staff.

My mum has been a resident at Crecy for the last 2 and a bit years and during that time I have seen a huge improvement in her overall physical health, she has actually put weight on as she is getting 3 good meals a day unlike when she was living on her own, and she excepts help now when there's a medical
issue and let's the staff get her the help that is needed medically, before she went in she would refuse any intervention.
The accommodation is very nice, the rooms are adequate for her needs, the garden area is very nice, and she has made friends.
The staff are always professional and caring and residents are treated with the utmost dignity, the food is good, and plenty of it.
I had massive reservations when Mum went in due to a lot of bad press at the time with rogue homes, but the staff at Crecy have laid them to rest with the care they have given my mum.
A massive thank you to ALL the staff.

We needed to find Mum secure care urgently in June and were able to move her into the care home quickly. Mum settled quickly and she was always treated well and with the greatest of respect. The family were also able to easily discuss any concerns or issues we had about. The managers were also instrumental
in helping us find another care home more suitable to Mum's needs. Mum was always clean and relaxed and improved from when she was first admitted.

We were privileged to be a part of your mum's care and we wish her and you as a family all the very best for the future.

On first arrival, staff were friendly, however, the room was only superficially clean. The mattress base was filthy and had to ask for it to be cleaned - done ineffectively. Each visit it was necessary to clean surfaces (purchased wipes and dustpan and brush). Clothes went missing, given clothes of
other residents. No match for 20 pairs of socks! Carer openly declined to play the music choice of resident stating they preferred their own choice. Residents not taken out for visits (over a year according to staff). A formal complaint was not logged or responded to. The staff made no written notes. Resident is diabetic and had to request a Chiropodist visit, not offered. Had to ask for medical intervention when the resident was clearly unwell. Resulted in hospital admission. Sent with no wash bag and dirty clothes packed. Resident stated he had been threatened by staff but unable to prove. Never given GP details. Funds of resident held in office, staff in charge unable to access, stated 'above my pay grade'. On visits noted staff often on phones, little interaction with residents except doing a jigsaw, frequently. Staff didn't understand medical conditions even basic knowledge, therefore risk if unable to report clinical changes. A positive is that residents have open access to smoking.

My Mum was moved into Crecy Care Home during Covid. She stayed there until she died this month. She was well looked after, always happy and cheerful. She was there for just under three years. The staff always were attentive and helpful, answering any questions I had. my Mum always seemed happy.

A homely care home, clean, and the carers always welcoming and friendly. Mum enjoyed the food. A lack of activities meant most of the day apart from lunch in the dining room was spent in a chair.
Mum enjoyed the singer once a month, and occasional events.
Mum was not eating or drinking enough and
had not taken medication because of a coughing problem on swallowing. I was not present at meal times so did not see for myself, even though I visited twice a week. I was not informed of any concerns until a phone call to say mum had been admitted to the hospital extremely ill.
Even after an explanation was given I still feel a six-week hospital admission could have been avoided.
It did not ease concerns and trust was lost. So mum has not returned.

My husband had a horrible experience in the four months he was admitted from September 2021 to Jan 2022 through lack of care and communication which led to him being hospitalised. Would not recommend this care home.

Both my sister and I are delighted with the care that our Mother receives at Crecy. The staff are caring, respectful and well-informed. They are very responsive to the varying needs of my Mother and do not hesitate to keep me up to date with any changes that concern them. They are very well managed
and skilled in the uses of various nursing techniques employed at Crecy.

Staff are caring and friendly, and the manager is approachable and goes above and beyond to do what he can. The house seems well run and is inclusive as much as possible, especially when there are activities and parties for the residents.

My sister has recently arrived here and seems very happy enjoys the garden and able to open patio doors to sit outside.
On my first visit, the manager and staff greeted me with a smile and were chatty and friendly. I was offered a lunch which was yum. Everything I saw was done with extreme care. A
care home that goes the extra mile. Well done.

A good welcome by staff. Front door unlocked - we were taken to my daughter's room. (There is a small leak at the base of the sink in my daughter's en-suite). Called to the dining room for lunch which the care home kindly provided for us. Excellent meal - cook is very good but is leaving soon - so sad.
Mugs of tea provided for us. This is while staff are seeing to residents.

I do realise it must take time for new staff to get used to caring for a resident (like my daughter) who is totally blind and only has 66% hearing in her left ear - otherwise is deaf.

Thank you to all the staff at Crecy.

Management and his team helped me with my dad especially moving him out of his home as it had steps. They dismantled his electric bed and moved it to Crecy. Dad enjoyed the entertainment and watching the World Cup and spending time with Mum. Nothing was too much trouble and so was able to enjoy respite
with no worries. Thank you all.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (7.960)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (7.960) out of 10 for Crecy Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.085 for Crecy Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (4 Poors x 2) + (6 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.085

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.875 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Crecy Care Home is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 registered maximum number of service users is 8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 8 = 0.5

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
