My mum has been at Portelet for 9 months and I absolutely can't fault it. My mum is so happy and content there, it is like a home from home. Always spotlessly clean, there is a lovely friendly and calm atmosphere and all the staff are so wonderful, kind, attentive and caring. It is very efficiently
run and communication with us is second to none. My mum really enjoys the food which is very varied and her room is exactly how she wants it and very homely. As a family, we are always made to feel very welcome when visiting and could not wish for anything better. Keep up the good work!

A very caring atmosphere here.
Enough staff, and always a calm, cheerful atmosphere - call any day, any time of day - it never changes.
My mother has been a resident here for over a year now, and she's perfectly happy. Manager and team well regarded.

My partner has been in Portelet House since January 2023. I cannot fault the care home. All the staff are very dedicated in their work which shows in their everyday routines. Always good communication from all staff to myself and my partner. My partner cannot speak but the staff communicate well with
plenty of jovial banter from all. The house is well-run, very clean and organised. Most of the staff are long-standing and make a very good team at all levels. Communication between staff and visitors is excellent as I see on my daily visits. Any queries I may have are answered quickly and correctly. Being a smallish residence the staff get to know the residents individually and look after them knowing people are individuals not just as a group. I cannot fault any of the staff at Portelet House. Communication is excellent between all parties, I have rated Portelet House as Excellent as I have no qualms about anything they do for my partner and the other residents.

The care staff are always happy to help. They always make time for the family when we visit or have any queries.
All the staff I have met and dealt with seem very dedicated and are always patient, professional and extremely caring. They give a lot of 'one-to-one' time to the residents, which is great
to see. All the staff seem to love their jobs, which is extremely important in this industry. It is the dedication of the staff that is my main reason for giving an 'overall' rating of Excellent.
The property itself is fairly small, with not too many residents, which I think is a good thing. It has a warm and welcoming atmosphere to it and has lots of character. It is very close to the seafront and has a 'cosy seaside guest house' feel about it. It is also very clean and seems to be well-maintained.

I was unsure how she'd adapt to the care home environment after 20 years at a supported living service which I manage...but she's been made to feel so 'at home' with a wonderful welcome and day-to-day care that she is loving it! I visit weekly (we go out for shopping and coffee) and she has nothing
but the highest praise for the care she is receiving. Indeed, when I visit, this warmth and friendliness is extended to myself (and my chihuahua!). This is my second client to move here when they developed physical care needs, after my last experience with Portelet I could not recommend them highly enough and we waited for a vacancy as she was keen to move there after all she had heard from me and also from our previous friend. With my experience and training in social care, I like to think I have some increased insight into what constitutes a well-run, happy and caring care home and, having visited many over the years, I am happy to wholeheartedly praise and recommend.

Since mum has been in the care home, she has received good and attentive care from all of the staff. We can visit anytime we want. The care home has arranged for a district nurse to visit two or three times a week to re-dress mums ulcer on her leg, which she has had for the past six years and also
check on her wound from her hip operation. They have also arranged a chiropodist and hairdresser. I feel mum gets looked after very well.

Current Review Score: 9.1 (9.079)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.1 (9.079) out of 10 for Portelet House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.829 for Portelet House is calculated as follows: ( (31 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 35 Ratings = 4.829

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.25 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Portelet House is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 15 registered maximum number of service users is 3, which has been reached with 3 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
