I visit regularly and all the staff are always welcoming and helpful. There are lots of activities and we are kept up to date on all the news from Talbot Lodge. There are family afternoons with entertainment and food provided. Overall, Talbot has a lovely atmosphere.

Our son moved to this care home after living 30 years previously in an excellent care home. We were apprehensive on how he would settle. The staff were excellent and the management was very efficient with the administration. He has settled really well and seems very happy. He is nonverbal, so is unable
to say how he feels. He is involved in lots of activities which he enjoys. We are happy with his new placement.

TWL is a wonderful home, my son has been living there for many years and is very happy there. His food, health and well-being are very well catered for. The managers and staff are all very kind and caring and inform me if there are any problems with his health or appointments. The home has a large garden
and patio where have outside activities, also there are minibuses for trips out in the community and more activities.

My son is very happy and very well looked after at this home. He is able to take part in many activities that are offered. I am always made to feel very welcome. He is secure there and always happy to go back after a home visit. The staff are always happy to help sort out any problems and are very respectful

Excellent care home, dedicated, friendly staff who treat residents with respect and ensure they are well cared for and have fun in their daily, organised activities.

My son has been at Talbot Woods Lodge since March 1997 and has had excellent care and still does. When the virus lockdown happened the owners and staff made sure that the residents were safe. At last, access has returned and I can see my son weekly.

My son has only been here for a short period so far but has made great progress. All staff and management have helped him to have a smooth and happy transition here. We are always made to feel very welcome when we visit, and are always kept up to date with how he is getting on, and shown photos of activities
he has participated in. Staff are lovely and are always interacting with the service users. The whole place has a lovely homely feel. My son is treated with respect and we are happy knowing he is safe and having a fulfilling life.

I am happy living at Talbot Woods Lodge. I often say "no" to going out but would benefit from being given an option of one venue or another venue, so I don't have the chance to say "no". It would be good for me to have more choices in daycare rather than relying on games/puzzles etc that mum has bought
in for me.

Nicola Colley

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 1997

Background: Established Talbot Woods Lodge in March 1997, with extensive experience in various sectors including a zoo, retail, and ownership of a bespoke school for children with learning disabilities, NHS units and hospitals. She is a qualified teacher and former school, college and university lecturer for care and early years development. She was the South West Secretary and volunteer lifeguard for the Special Olympics as well as assisting in fundraising and support for events such as the Glasgow Olympics.


Notable Qualifications: Certificate of Education (Teaching Qualification), NPLQ Lifeguard (previously), Makaton Vocabulary Development, TQUK Level 2 Autism Certificate, Learning Disabled Award Framework Award Holder, National Vocational Qualification training and Development (NVQ Assessor), NEBS Management Award, NVQ 4 Registered Managers Award, BA Hons Health and Social Care


Hobbies: She enjoys health and fitness, particularly Les Mills and spinning. Holds a vested interest in animal welfare and conservation.

John Colley

- Background: Previously managed a recycling centre, owned and ran a white goods company in partnership, managed commercial properties, and worked part-time in care. Transitioned to full-time work in the care industry in the early 2000s due to the enjoyment and fulfilment derived from the role. He has been and continues to be heavily involved in fundraising for various organisations such as cancer charities and the Special Olympics.


- Qualifications: Holds an HGV 1 license, NVQ 3 in health and social care, NVQ 4 in learning disability care, and Learning Disability Qualification Level 3.


- Hobbies: Enjoys caring for people and animals, previously maintaining a 14ft marine fish tank and panther chameleons. Currently runs a rescue kennel with his son, caring for up to 30 dogs. A dedicated fitness enthusiast who engages in weight training and circuits. Passionate about wildlife, having travelled to the Borneo rainforest to see orangutans, his favourite animal. Fond of exploring different countries and their wonders.


- Fun Fact: In his younger years, John once sported an electric pink Mohican.


Elliott

Elliott Colley

Job Title: Manager

Joined: 2006

- background: Elliott has over 17 years of experience in care having started as a care assistant at the age of 16 working his way up to a management level. During this time he has made many achievements such as working as a lifeguard voluntarily for the Special Olympics and working as a care ambassador providing talks to colleges, job centres and schools about what it is like to work in care. He has a great background in IT as he previously used to build and program computers and can often be seen tinkering with different aspects of the home to improve independence for our residents with automation and voice-activated controls.


- Qualifications: Elliott is a qualified Halliwick swimming therapist, and a qualified trainer in medication, behavioural management and moving and handling. Holds an NVQ 3 in health and social care, BSc Hons in Health and Social Care, City and Guilds 7300 Coaching Award.


- Hobbies: Elliott has a big passion for fitness and extreme sports, he loves kite surfing and kite buggies, paddle boarding and snowboarding to name a few. When he's not getting sporty he usually spends time at his rescue Dogs' kennels where between caring for them he also does animal therapy work with disabled adults. He is very enthusiastic about technology and often brings his knowledge to the home in the form of great experiences, virtual reality and all tools to improve people's care experiences. He has worked with numerous NGOs around improving care services on a local and national scale, has travelled to London to feature in training videos and eLearning courses and has been asked to showcase his work around Virtual Reality and its use in care and dementia services at seminars.
