Kingland House Residential Home is located a short distance from Poole Park in Dorset.

The park has a large lake with wildlife, swans geese and a miniature railway and boating facilities and is a five-minute walk from the local town centre and a short drive from Sandbanks beach, quay and old town.

The home has multiple lounge areas, one for activities and one for relaxing in quiet. The grounds feature landscaped gardens which residents can enjoy and admire from the home's dining room conservatory or in person during the warmer months.

Residents at the home can enjoy freshly prepared meals on a daily basis, with special dietary requirements being catered for.

Residents at the home are encouraged to bring personal items to make themselves feel at home as they settle into their new surroundings, while the home has a team of activities co-ordinators who provide a range of inspiring activities for residents to participate in and socialise, including a regular quiz and exercising to music.

The staff I have dealt with seem caring and do a good job. Clothes go missing and the resident's hearing aids have been lost on two occasions. Although she does take them out I have asked that before she is moved to check that her hearing aids are located. Often dead batteries in the aids and she is
sat not being able to hear.

My mum tells me that she's very happy to be in the home. We are very assured that she is very well looked after. The food is good, the surroundings are pleasant and the staff are excellent. I think it literally adds years to her life.

A Queen's Jubilee party was organised for residents, in the lovely gardens (if wet in the conservatory!). I think nearly every resident was out in the garden which was lovely to see and visitors aplenty which, after the last 2 years, was a joy. Great effort was put in from every member of staff from
kitchen, cleaning, reception and the caregiving staff. Really nice atmosphere with lovely touches like an ice cream cart and jubilee hats and flags, with songs that stirred the memory banks. My mother stayed in the sunshine for a full 3 hours which was lovely for her and me! And this really seemed to raise her mood and memory. She enjoyed the lovely tea party with cream scones and cupcakes. I saw how the staff treat residents and their colleagues, like a little family and this makes it a special caring place.

My dad moved into the home in February 2022. He is deaf, partially sighted and has mobility issues. We were worried about him moving in as he is incredibly clever but due to his physical issues he could be overlooked. He is also very easy going and won’t demand any attention. However, the team are
lovely with him and he has settled in well. He loves the team, the food, the garden area and his room. We are very grateful to see him happy as he has lived independently until now but at the age of 94, he needs additional support.

My father is always well dressed and appears to be happy. He likes the carers and the food. All staff are very welcoming when I visit. There seems to be frequent and varied activities with well cared for and pretty gardens.

Mother-in-law has been at Kingland House Residential Home for just over 4 years. She is happy there and never complains. Her room is nice and she has plenty of space. There is a good amount of entertainment which she generally joins in. She particularly liked the trips out which are still suspended
which is a shame. Hopefully, they will start again soon. There were some difficulties during Covid lockdowns and restrictions when checks on room contents/clothing and personal essentials were rare but that has been resolved. Admin staff are helpful. The cost has increased substantially over the past 2 years - I hope that will not continue. I do feel that self-funders are taken advantage of financially - I doubt social care residents are charged anywhere near her costs!

My mother has been a resident for 5 years now. During this time I have been totally satisfied that her care needs have been fully delivered. The atmosphere within the home is very relaxed and extremely friendly. Communication with all the staff is very easy and open. Activity organisation is excellent
and caters for the wide range of resident abilities. The standard of catering offered is to an extremely high standard with varied menus and is delivered in a very sunny and well-placed restaurant. I fully recommend Kingland House Residential Home as a top class care provider.

My mother had to go into residential care as her home care package was terminated and another care company could not be found immediately. She had always stated that she did not want to "go into a home", so was quite upset when this happened. Kingland House was our choice as Social Services had earmarked
a residential home in Bournemouth, but Kingland House was just a 10 minute walk from where we live. Mother went in at the beginning of November and, due to no home care package available, is still there. However, now she is settled and contented and quite happy to stay there. The staff are friendly, caring and professional. They keep us informed of anything arising from Mother's care, and she is the best she's been for a long while. Her room is very cosy and homely and overlooks the nearby garden centre. She is a very sociable person and enjoys the contact with other residentsand staff, which is encouraged. The food is excellent and activities varied and stimulating.

Obviously, due to Covid 19, I have been unable to enter the premises recently. I have however sat just outside of the conservatory dining room looking in, in order to communicate with my mother safely on the inside with a clear screen between us. I have also had Skype meetings with my mother whilst
she has been in her room.
During summer safely distanced meetings were made possible in the large garden. My mother is clearly content and thriving in this home. The staff are caring and attentive, the food is of good quality and well presented. Of particular note are the person-centred activities, encouragement to participate and variety. Covid compliant entertainment has been provided, there is a can-do attitude and a willingness to figure out a way to still provide stimulation in challenging circumstances. I know my mother is being well cared for and this is of great comfort especially at a time when Covid 19 restricts my ability to be more involved.

Mum has settled in at Kingland she has been encouraged by the caring staff to take part in the many activities. She has a nice room with en-suite overlooking the garden. The only thing mum looks forward to is her food which is all home cooked but Kingsland Chef there is always a choice, she has her
meals in a light airy dining room with the other residents, along with the T.V lounge it overlooks the garden. There are entertainers that go in for a sing-along. The hairdresser visits. There are wheelchairs walks in the park and coach trips. I can't praise the staff enough for their total dedication to residents living the best life they can.

A warm and welcoming introduction to living in a care home. Time is taken to get to know the individual and how they 'tick'. One to one early care and medical treatments gave a reassuring settling in period. Continued encouragement and understanding following the most stressful time and changes. Quality

I did not see a lot of Kingland House because of the Coronavirus shut down. I was invited in reception with my wife, a nurse looked after her while I was shown her room. My first thoughts were, what a lovely light and airy care home. The room was all you could ask for. My family and I knew she would
be looked after well. When I left I said when it's my turn I know where I want to come.

The staff are polite and always very considerate towards the residents.
Although some of the décor has been improved, the carpet is in a pretty shabby condition and in some places, is held together with black tape.

This being the first time to ever have a family member go into care, has been very hard. We have been made to feel very welcomed by staff and management, all of whom are friendly. We have been able to make the room more personal as we wish. A few issues have arisen but resolved very quickly by communicating
with management. It takes a while for anybody to get to know others and they don't know them as well as yourself.
Food has been an issue and I cannot fault the staff and their patience trying to persuade other foods to someone who refuses.
Also, someone who just likes to people-watch or stay in bed, it is difficult to help them take part in the range of activities available that are very good and very varied.

My mother is safe well looked after. Since being in here, she has had no falls and now making friends with both residents and staff.
Although not the same as home, she is settling down very well.

I submitted a review of Kingland House back in October 2016.
Both my parents have been resident at Kingland House for nearly three and a half years now.
There were some recent teething problems when the home changed from nursing to residential status, some staff found that their roles and responsibilities
increased.
I have been really pleased to have witnessed, the considerable efforts that the staff and management have invested in making Kingland House an effective and well-run home for the residents. I have confidence in the care that's provided and have always been really happy with the way that my parents have had their needs met. As they have become more needful of support, this has been carefully reflected in the response that the home has provided. It's a big thing for a family to trust services to care for their loved ones, and so it's been most encouraging to know that Kingland House do their best for residents and their families.
Recommended without reservation.

Mum had advanced mixed vascular dementia and Alzheimer's. Mum was treated with respect, kindness and dignity by all the staff.
She was well presented, perfume applied, clothes well-coordinated, even when she was unable to communicate her wishes.
I was always warmly welcomed and came to consider staff
as friends.
Staff sat with Mum through the night in her final days so I could sleep so Mum was never alone.
They provided comfort for me and were genuinely saddened by Mum's passing.
A truly amazing team of carers and a wonderful care home.

Fortunately, my mother is still reasonable independent at the moment so I can only comment on her situation. I frequently ask her if she has any problems, she always says no and anything I have needed to speak about has always had immediate attention. She seems very content and prefers to be in the
lounge and joins in the activities and goes on the trips. It is good to see the improvements and now looks much fresher and the grounds are very nice. The staff who are always friendly and helpful have had a difficult few months and work hard to do their best and as long as my mother is happy so am I. I wish them good luck for the future.
