  • More Hall Convent, Stroud
More Hall Convent is a small, Christian (catholic) residential (not nursing) care home, run by Benedictine Sisters, together with lay staff, for up to 10 residents.

It is a lovely, Elizabethan house, situated 2 miles outside of Stroud.

The Sisters welcome people of all faiths and none. More Hall Care Home is part of the Grace and Compassion Sisters, who run nursing and care homes and sheltered accommodation in the UK and in India, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Uganda. There is a chapel to which all are welcome.

The Home offers long-term care to elderly people. It focuses on helping older people with physical frailty and sensory impairment, as well as those with mild cognitive disabilities (e.g. mild short term memory loss.), and those needing companionship and care. Admissions are based on the person’s need, and the home's ability to meet that need. The care home accepts both those who are able to self-fund, and those funded by Social Services. The Sisters and the Carers are kind and attentive. They are friendly, good humoured, engaging in their conversation, quick to laugh and always treat the residents with respect. They are always welcoming to visitors and take time to communicate any concerns or share small anecdotes of the day. More Hall
is homely and the grounds well tended. The garden is full of flowers and fruit trees. There are good seating areas in the courtyard and by the orchard. Wholesome, home-cooked food is served every meal time, with attention to presentation and portion size. Afternoon refreshments of tea and cake are also served. The communal dining room encourages eating together and conversation between residents. Afternoon activities and general engagement ensure residents do not feel isolated in their rooms.
The level of nursing care is good and residents are treated with dignity and love.

As a relative of a resident recently deceased, I know she was lovingly and sensitively cared for over a number of years. Nothing was too much for the staff and regular suitable activities, trips and entertainment were organised.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.784) out of 10 for More Hall Convent is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.826 for More Hall Convent is calculated as follows: ( (20 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 23 Ratings = 4.826

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.958 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for More Hall Convent is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 12 registered maximum number of service users is 2.4. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 2.4 = 0.833

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
