My mother was on respite care at Nazareth House for 3 weeks. She was given a very nice room with a washroom en-suite. She seemed to be well looked after by the care staff there.
The food and drinks seemed to be good although my mum didn’t always like it possibly due to her personal tastes. I am not
completely sure whether there were enough drinks left in her room at times although I regularly took drinks and snacks in for her on a daily basis. The care staff assured me that drinks were taken around regularly. There were activities organised regularly although I don’t think my mum joined in with them very much. The staff were all very friendly and helpful towards me. The care staff were very hard working. I very much appreciated that the home took my mum to hospital for an eye appointment. Overall there seems to be a very friendly and helpful atmosphere in Nazareth House and we as a family very much appreciated them accommodating my mum for respite care at short notice.

A home with many dedicated carers! It seems a pity that the home has to rely on agency staff who cannot know the preferred routines of the residents. The rapid changeover of staff (permanent or agency) is somewhat unsettling for residents.
Having a chapel with morning Mass every day and also a resident
chaplain is a real bonus for my mother. For this reason, she would never contemplate leaving Nazareth House, apart from the spiritual value, a Mass at 10 am helps to give the day both routine and structure.
The food is good, The cooks prepare dishes which are presented in an attractive way. However, residents like my mother love 'good old English food'. The choice of desserts for diabetics could be greater (only yoghurt or diabetic ice-cream).
Visiting hours are generous, but doors can only be opened with a code. This means a visitor can want for a long time to enter or exit the building when the reception desk is not occupied. And telephone calls to the home are not easy.
Activities are important. A resident without hobbies and without visitors needs some kind of distraction besides television.
Nazarth House is clean, the staff are friendly and the grounds are phenomenal.

My Nan was in Nazareth House for 6 weeks before her passing. She was treated with the greatest respect and excellent care. When my Nan was on end-of-life she was treated with dignity and the staff bent over backwards for her care and to also support me and my family. We are very grateful to all the
staff.

I could not be happier that my Mother is here. The staff and management treat her beautifully and she acknowledges that she is very happy here. It is always a pleasure to come here. Standards are high and they really do put the emphasis on care and being caring.

First class in almost every respect; right from the top down. The general manager is an absolute gem! My mother was recently in a different care home and unfortunately fell and shattered her hip and broke her leg at said home and was admitted to hospital for two weeks. The manager came to visit my mother
in the hospital and was in constant touch with me and the adult social services. Before moving my mother to Nazareth House my wife and I visited quite a few care homes in the area and two or three stood out where others failed. Nazareth House is one of the standout care homes (it was also recommended to us). I am delighted to say that my mother is at peace and consequently so are we. The manager and team are an absolute delight and deserve great praise and a lot of praise. We are grateful to all of them.

My cousin has recently become a resident. I have visited her twice and am very impressed by the relaxed atmosphere and the care given to her for her well-being. The manageress and the staff made time to include us in welcoming my cousin and giving us time to talk to them.

From the moment of first contact, Nazareth House has excelled way beyond any expectations I had of care homes. The staff are so kind and efficient; the facilities are marvellous, from the gardens to the activities room, and the food is fantastic. It's great to hear Mum has taken part in events like
exercise classes and made friends, as well as having peace with her book or jigsaw in the quiet room.
Greater peace of mind than I could ever have hoped for.

My Grandma had 2 weeks' respite at Nazareth House. The care home was very clean and comforting. The care team were all lovely and welcoming during visits. Grandma has told us of the activities she did whilst there and the friends she made with the team and other residents. She had a nice sized room
with an ensuite bathroom.

It's always a bit of shock when your mother reaches the age when full-time care is needed. Fortunately, Nazareth House could take her in and she has thrived in the few months she has been there. The home is well looked after, there are plenty of activities for her to participate in and she is really
happy there. The staff are professional and caring it is a relief for the family to know she is receiving such excellent care.

The care given by the staff at Nazareth House has been wonderful, with strong teamwork and a sense of duty and care at this most difficult of times due to COVID. The home itself is spotless, the gardens are beautiful and residents have lots of opportunities to participate in activities offering stimulation
and companionship, and pastoral care is excellent. The residents always look well cared for, drinks and fresh fruit and snacks are available between meals. The staff are warm and friendly. My husband is very happy here and enjoys the help and encouragement that all the staff have afforded him.

Mum arrived for six weeks respite in September 2020, and within two weeks, was looking amazing, hair done, makeup on, nicely dressed. Unfortunately, Mum has dementia, which became worse, with Nazareth House being shut down many times with Covid. I feel Mum was well cared for on occasions over and above.
Mum passed away on 16th September at 93, amazing the extra year at Nazareth House made it.

I found the staff both helpful and compassionate.
The manager had a difficult job with my sister, and I thank them for their patience.
I think that the job was very difficult and required a conscientious mindset.
I would like to thank all staff involved for their help in this difficult time for
our family.

The resident I hold Power of Attorney for has lived very happily in Nazareth House Cheltenham for over five and a half years. There have been refurbishments and a number of General Manager changes during her stay. I will outline my top ten considerations in no particular order.
1. My much-loved resident
is happy and totally content.
2. It never smells of wee, it's clean and fresh.
3. It is now very well run by a competent, highly experienced General Manager.
4. The residents' entertainer is doing an excellent job and residents have the opportunity to join in varied structured activities.
5. It looks like a hotel, but it feels like a home.
6. The grounds are spacious and beautiful parkland.
7. Staff are caring and people are treated as individuals, not numbers.
8. Rooms are pleasant.
9. Religious chapel and services.
10. If I needed care I would place myself in Nazareth House based on my knowledge and experience of this care home.
Seeking care? Look and find it here.

The staff at Nazareth House are exceptional. Without exception, every single member of staff has been kind, caring, generous with their time, engaged with the residents, thoughtful and courteous. The most important thing to me is to know my mum is looked after and cared for and I feel reassured that
she is at Nazareth House.

Have been saddened and shocked at the poor care received. My mother was not provided with safe care and the management and communication were non-existent.
Felt as though I had let her down as I watched the service disintegrate around her. Believe that the money recently spent on refurbishment would
have been better spent on staff levels/training and activities for the residents. If you are failing the existing residents why try to attract more?

I usually visit mum once a week and because of her dementia there is little conversation but we always enjoy a game of scrabble and she has a great, very dry sense of humour which the staff enjoy so relationships are very good. I was away on holiday for two weeks and on my next visit, found mum to be
as usual grateful and content about her life in Nazareth House and clearly she had no interest/connection with where I'd been. All is very well.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.274)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.274) out of 10 for Nazareth House - Cheltenham is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.660 for Nazareth House - Cheltenham is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 100 Ratings = 4.66

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.614 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Nazareth House - Cheltenham is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 63 registered maximum number of service users is 12.6. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 12.6 = 0.714

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
